Small Note

Sakura: Thank you all who stuck with this story to the end! It's sad to say this is the last chapter of Hunters Game. I know some of my readers were hoping for a fight last chapter, but things ended peacefully with the hunters and now it's time to bring forth the final chapter.

Chapter Twenty

One Hundred and Fifty Years Later

The world and people around us change over time, but vampires are forever

Life moves on and people change and the same could be said for the one city everyone thought would never change or fall. Vampire City was a great place for vampires and humans to live in peace without fear of being judged or put down when times were tough. Their King and his mate were generous and looked out for their people even when there were those who threaten them and the city they protected. No believed the day would come when Vampire City would be no more and the vampires would be free to go where they pleased.

The process for this started one hundred and fifty years ago when hunters threatened the peace the city had built. After the leaders and followers were captured and punished for their crimes, the city no longer had to fear a new war rising. King Yami decided it was time to make some major changes in order to continue to protect his race along with the humans who never saw the vampires as monsters. Under careful watch and after a major vote from his people, it was decided the portals would remain as they are, but would allow vampires to come and go as they pleased.

The first vampires to give this a try were those who were related or in a relationship with a human. This way the human could monitor and show the King how vampires handled traveling outside the city. The few rules the vampires had to follow before given permission to leave were to keep their identity as a vampire a secret so they would not cause a uproar and risk being killed, along with that was to also try and avoid large crowds of humans so they would not be tempted to drink from them.

However the King did not foresee some of his kind and their families deciding to leave for good. Some vampires wanted a change and King Yami could not deny them that any longer. Everyone had it made in the city, but sometimes a perfect city that gives you everything you could need or want is sometimes not what some really want out of life. So over the course of several years some vampires made the choice to leave with their loved ones. A warning was place to them that once they leave the city, Yami could be of no assistance to them, but they were always welcomed to return if things did not work out. The remaining few portal holders were put in charge, if they chose, to help the vampires get settled outside the city or at least help them get to where they want to go. After the small battle with the hunters and over the course of about fifty years the number of portal holders went down as some retired or had families who did not wish to take it over. The only remaining portals that had been left were the ones in Egypt, one half of America, Japan, and England. The rest were shut down and no longer used. This did mean in order to get to Vampire City some people had to travel first to the portals but it was a small price to pay for only having a few open to fully keep the portals under control.

Most of the vampires who did not leave the city were those who were not related or in a relationship with humans. Some still believed they had it good within Vampire City and knew they were protected under their King. However as time went on and slowly the city began to shrink their ideal about staying started to change. As vampires left so did humans and thus the supply of blood went down. It took longer to get a blood supply from outside the city then within the city. It wasn't long before the rest of the vampires were questioning themselves on staying or not.

As the King noticed changes outside of his city and the slow shrinking of the population in his city, he found himself thinking it was time to let the city go. It had been a slow process but five thousand years of ruling Vampire City, King Yami knew that these changes had to come one day and at least now vampires could live how they wanted without being trapped in one place. With his council gone, his children and citizens living lives outside of the city, the King made a choice to shut down the city and start a new life with his partner. Once the last few remaining citizens were gone, Yami and Yuugi packed up what they wanted and left like everyone else.

To this day the city still remains out there somewhere in the middle of the ocean completely void of life and the only two people who know where it is would be the King and his mate.

A hundred and fifty years is a long time to be alive, but it was nothing in the eyes of a vampire. Most of the vampires who walk the earth were well over a thousand years old, but there are more born every day. Some would think with the end of Vampire City and the vampires living among the humans all around the world that slowly vampires would take over. However that was not the case as people made the choice to change into a vampire there were still plenty of humans alive and well and having families keeping their population alive.

Things were not easy for the vampires when they left the city as their population was small and plus there were still humans out there who hated the supernatural and saw them as freaks. However the vampires were not as alone as they thought. There were plenty of humans out there that stood up for them and protected them against judgment and those who wanted to get rid of them.

If someone had asked Yuugi a hundred years ago if he thought vampires and humans could live together without problems outside of the city he once co-ruled, Yuugi probably would have told them no. He never thought he would live to see the day when both he and his husband would leave the city they ruled behind to start a new life. It seemed in the past hundred years humans slowly began to accept vampires, but there were those who still were against them.

When both he and his husband came back to Domino two years ago they walked into a new world completely. Vampires walked on the street as everyday people going to work and living their lives. They communicated with humans as if they were friends and dealt with everything they did when they lived in Vampire City. All over the world vampires fought for what they believed in and won a place in the one world they wanted to be accepted.

It was nice to see such a change because now it allowed Yuugi and Yami to live their life how they wanted as every day citizens. Yuugi easily settled back in and was able to rebuild a game shop in his grandfather's honor that sold new and old games. His grandfather's old game shop had to be torn down due to old construction and it was unstable. That had happened back when they were dealing with the hunters and Mokuba had informed him that it was a completely unsafe place. Yuugi had hated to see it go, but since he never thought he would be leaving vampire city he decided to let it go. The new game shop would never be the same as his old childhood home but it would be good enough.

Seto and Joey had long since settled in long before Yuugi and Yami made it to Domino. The couple had left the city not long after Yami allowed vampires to leave the city. The two wanted to spent time with their siblings as they got older and be with their nieces and nephews. When Mokuba and Serenity passed away Seto shocked the world by coming back out of nowhere as an unaged man and took his company back. He had never been ashamed of what he became and at a press conference he told anyone who had a problem with it to 'shove it where the sun doesn't shine.' He had been always been a good president for the company and always bought out the best products that made the company money. Since he was powerful most did leave him alone. He and Joey were luckier than most vampires back then, but they had their own struggles with watching their family slowly die over the years such as with Serenity and Mokuba.

Yuugi's other friends who were vampires were doing well although over the years they lost Ishizu, Shadi, Rishid, Amane, and Rebecca. Along with Ishizu and Shadi's children, Amane and her husband's children, and Rebecca's children as they grew old and slowly died. It was the only down fall of being a vampire when your loved ones who were not immortal died around you. It was tough some days, but grief normally only last so long and as long as you had good memories of those people they were never truly gone.

Those who were vampires were all over the world enjoying life. Bakura and Ryou lived in England, Malik and Marik moved to Egypt with a little bit of traveling here and there, Seth and Kisara traveled more than settled in one place since even after all these years they haven't found a place they felt like staying. The other members of the council were spread out all over, but still kept in touch with their ex-King.

Yuugi and Yami's children most people believed would stick with their parents as they have always, but once freed of the city they surprised even Yuugi and Yami by moving away. Ethan and Taylor were the first to go as they wanted to get the feel of life as their own little family on their own without the support of their parents. Jason and Raven stayed for a while before moving on also even though they both looked like teenagers. While Ethan and Taylor moved out of the country, Jason and Raven simply moved to Tokyo only a few hours away from Domino. The only children still glued to their parents was Chan and Kotaro. The two would never really be able to live on their own give their size, but they did have their own responsibilities and Yuugi let them work around his new shop. They were the only employees he would ever need.

Honestly in all his life Yuugi had mixed feelings about leaving the city he had come to know, but when Yami gave him the choice of picking where they would live it came as no surprise to either that he wanted to finally return to his hometown. There was the idea of moving to Yami's homeland, but Yami had seen the changes done and it just wasn't the same, plus Yuugi had his own bad and good experiences there.

Life would never be the same for humans and vampires, but at least these changes were for the best.

The day outside was beautiful. It was one of those days when you just couldn't stay inside because the sky outside was blue and the weather was just warm enough to be comfortable. However the same could not be said for Yuugi as he worked at the front desk of his game shop. Even though it was a beautiful day, business was busy as usual and it was not best if Yuugi closed down the shop. It had truly surprised Yuugi when he first came to Domino and rebuilt his grandfather's old game shop with some changes that it would be a huge hit. It seemed no matter how many years went by games never went out of style both old and new. The Kame Game Shop was a two story building with the bottom floor being the shop that sold games of all types from board games to video games. They also sold products made from the huge gaming company Kaiba Corp which helped business more. The upstairs was made up into a four bedroom apartment with one room for Yuugi and Yami, a room for Chan, a room for Kotaro, and a guest room for anyone who stayed over. There was a good size kitchen that fit a decent size table and a nice living room. The back of the shop had been fixed up to have a decent size backyard and that was one of the reasons why Yuugi had the game shop built in between the residential areas and the downtown business area. He wanted a good size backyard for his children to be able to play in and not have to always go to the park.

Kotaro, the same sweet boy he had always been, was putting out a fresh supply of packets for card games. He grabbed his empty boxes and went back into the storage room that was located behind the front counter. Beside that room was a door that lead down a small hall way toward the backyard, but there were also stairs that lead up into the house part. It had been tricky for Yuugi figuring out how to build the place so it was both a shop and living quarters and it took time but it worked out.

Yuugi looked at the clock on the wall after giving the costumer in front of him their bag with a smile and thanking them for their business. Once that costumer was gone the shop was empty for a moment so Yuugi sat on his stool and sighed. It had been busy all morning and he was tired. Two years he had been back living in Domino working in his new game shop and although it was hard work he wouldn't change anything. The business made enough money that the family lived comfortable in their own way which was good given not everyone took to living in Domino so easily.

The bell on top the door to the entrance rang signaling someone had just walked in and when Yuugi looked up he smiled at who was there. Yami had just walked in with Chan on his back giggling as she hugged his neck. In Yami's hands were grocery bags with the few items Yuugi had asked him to pick up while he handled the afternoon rush of costumers.

"We're back papa!" Chan shouted excitedly in Yami's ear causing him to wince. She hopped off his back and ran over to Yuugi. "Daddy let me doing the shopping. I got everything on the list you asked for."

Yuugi chuckled and ruffled her hair as she jumped up on the counter. "Thank you Chan. Kotaro could use your help rearranging some boxes in the storage room. Would you mind helping him before a new rush of costumers come?"

Chan nodded as she climbed over the counter and hurried into the storage room.

Yami sat the bags on the counter with a sigh. "Every time we go out shopping she is a bundle of energy. I don't see how you handle it."

"You have to be patience. She is a kid at heart you know." Yuugi said as he checked the items in the bag just to double check. Normally he was the one doing the shopping, because sadly his partner wasn't the best at it. Even with a list Yami would forget things. Sometimes Yuugi believed his mind wondered off and he knew why. For five thousand years Yami had one job and that was ruling vampire city. He would always have so much to do in one day and now for two years he had nothing to do but be a stay at home dad.

At first it had seemed like a great idea in moving to Domino once all the vampires and humans left Vampire City, but then as the months went by Yuugi noticed changes in Yami. He was slower in doing things and he was always looking lost like he was forgetting something. Yuugi tried his best to help him because the last thing he wanted was for Yami to fall into a depression. Every day was a battle to get Yami to get out of the house and after a hundred and seventy years of marriage Yuugi worried about losing his husband.

Yuugi did notice one small thing missing from the list, but he kept quiet about it and smiled up at Yami. "Thanks for doing this I wouldn't have had everything to make for supper."

"Do you think I could help you tonight?"

Yuugi was surprised by the question. "You want to try cooking again?"

Yami shrugged. "I can't get good if I don't try. You already do so much for the family I want to be able to pull my own weight. There hadn't been much I can do around here and I don't want to feel like a burden."

"Yami, you will never be a burden…" Yuugi scowled him as he moved from around the counter and wrapped his arms around Yami's neck. "You went from being a King to becoming a normal citizen. It will take time for you to adjust and I'm sure with time you will find something new that you love to do."

"It's been two years Yuugi, I don't know much about anything except what you have taught me."

"Everyone learns to adjust to new things in their own time. I don't want you putting yourself down anymore." Yuugi peck his cheek with a kiss, "How about after you put the grocery away, you come back down here and give your children a hand. The storage room has become a mess with all these new shipments. It could use a good cleaning."

Yami chuckled and gave Yuugi a kiss on the lips. "Yes, sir…" He teased before Yuugi let him go and he grabbed the bags to take upstairs. Once he was gone a frown developed on Yuugi's face, tomorrow was an important day for the both of them and he hoped the surprise he had for Yami would make him feel better.

The next day around noon found Yuugi at the Kaiba mansion helping Joey finish the preparations for their party that night. They had a huge list of people who would be coming in from all over to celebrate with Yuugi and Yami. It was not a major event in the eyes of some people, but to Yuugi it was important. So in order to get everything the way he wanted he took the day off of work and asked Yami to watch Chan and Kotaro for him. He told a little white lie to Yami that he was helping Joey plan a small party for friends and that Yami was to get ready and bring over their two little ones later that night. It was the only way Yuugi could get out of the house without giving away the surprise.

"So Yami has no idea?" Joey asked as Yuugi helped him hang a banner over the fireplace in the living room.

Yuugi shook his head, "No idea, I think he even forgot what today was. It's been so many years I'm not surprise by it."

"You don't celebrate every year do you?"

"No, but we do like to have a date. However I thought it was time to have a little party to get his spirits up. He has been down lately and I'm sure seeing everyone again will cheer him up." Yuugi tacked his side to the wall before getting off the ladder.

Joey finished his side and jumped down from his ladder. "I do enjoy the changes that have been made to the world, but two years doesn't seem long enough for Yami to get over it. Five thousand years he ruled that one city and everyone adored him. I can understand why the transition is so much harder on him. You and I used to live in this world and you have only been a co-ruler for a little over a hundred years."

"I kind of miss it, but Yami did all the work," Yuugi reminded him as they walked into the dining room. Plates were all set up and as the food finished cooking they would begin to set it out. Human food wasn't much to a room full of vampires, but it was better than just having blood as all the dishes for that evening.

"When are the others scheduled to arrive?" Joey questioned before he heard the doorbell ring.

Yuugi chuckled. "I would say about now…" He hurried to the door to see who their first guest to arrive was.

"Are we there yet?" Chan whined while continuing to swing her and her daddy's hands together. It felt like they had been walking for hours.

"Not yet honey we have one more block to walk," Yami informed her.

"The car would have been so much faster," Kotaro grumbled from his spot on Yami's other side.

Yami rolled his eyes and checked his surroundings to make sure they were in the right area. The modern world of today was still overwhelming to Yami and his fear of vehicles never changed. The only time he would get in a car is if Yuugi drove, but Yami knew that so long as he lived he would never drive one of those metal dead traps. Because of this it left Yami to walk with his children to the Kaiba mansion just as the sun was setting when Yuugi told them they should head his way.

Another five minutes passed before they were finally at the huge gates that protected the entrance to the Kaiba Mansion. Yami remembered the code Yuugi had given him and put it into the key pad unlocking the gates so they could head up the mile long drive way to the front doors. The place was fairly dark on the outside giving it an eerie look in the shadows, but inside there were lights on downstairs and Yami could see shadows moving.

Chan happily rang the doorbell and only had to wait a minute as Yuugi was already ready to answer the door when they came. He smiled at them and ushered them inside, Chan and Kotaro immediately ran into the living room. When the door was closed behind him, Yami took Yuugi into his arms and kissed him.

"Please don't ever leave me with them again. Why is it that when I watch them they make such a mess?" Yami whined which was very unlike him.

Yuugi laughed as he pulled away from Yami. "You are the fun parent remember… They can get away with more if you are watching them." He reached down and grabbed Yami's hands. "Come on everyone is ready for us…."

The former King was dragged into the semi dark living room and as soon as they stepped into the room, the lights were turned back up. Friends and family stood in front of the fireplace with smiles on their faces. Above them was a banner that said 'Happy Hundred and Seventieth anniversary!'

At first Yami blinked a couple times clearly not understanding what was going on until he looked down at Yuugi, "I forgot again didn't I?"

"That's not important, but I thought I would do something special for you since you have been working so hard at learning to live in this new world." Yuugi grinned up at him.

Yami smiled as he pulled Yuugi into a hug before whispering in his partner's ear, "You are too good for me. I'm surprised you haven't grown tired of me yet."

Yuugi pulled away from Yami and playfully slapped his arm. "A hundred and seventy years we have been married, you can't get rid of me that easy."

"Alright you two lovebirds, can we eat already?" A remake like that was made by none other than Yami's oldest son Taylor who in return got a slap up side the head by Ethan.

"He never change does he Ethan?" Yami said with a laugh and got a groan in response.

"I think we need to move back in with you guys so Yuugi can keep him in line." Ethan said with a smirk and Taylor immediately got wide eyes.

"I could always use more help around the shop," Yuugi replied back with a wicked smirk of his own.

Taylor huffed and walked out of the room. "I'll never win this battle!" He groaned even though he knew they were playing.

Yami couldn't keep the smile off his face as he was reunited with the rest of his children, friends, and family. They all never changed since the last time he saw them. However no matter what was different in their lives he was overjoyed to see the people he spent years building friendships with. His council had always been there for him even when he was a blood thirsty monster back in ancient Egypt and even the new friends he developed over the years stayed with him. They lost some people along the way those of who had been human, but the fairly large group in the room would always be there for him no matter what.

The former King looked over his shoulder at Yuugi who was talking with Joey and a real true smile came to his face. Everything including the new man he was today could all be thanks to his one true soul mate. Yuugi had simply stumbled upon his city by accident, however after that day he made a huge impact on everyone. They had their fights and struggles through the years, but kept it all together. When he had thought no one could ever love him, Yuugi was the one to prove him wrong. The man accepted Yami's past as if it was nothing and he stood by Yami through all the troubles they had in Vampire City. He could have easily walked away when Jiro tried to kill him that first time, but Yuugi stayed because he loved him.

Yami excused himself from talking with Bakura, Marik, and Seth to walk straight over to Yuugi. He spun the smaller vampire around interrupting his discussion with Joey as he kissed him in front of everyone. The kiss wasn't one of lust or need, no it was a simply kiss to show Yuugi how much he loved him and how much he was lucky to have him in his life.

When they broke apart Yuugi was a little dazed by the kiss and looked up at Yami confused. "What was that for?"

"To say thank you and show you how much I love you and all that you have done for me." Yami confessed from the heart.

Yuugi couldn't stop the giggle that came out as he wrapped his arms around Yami's neck. "I love you too," He kissed him back with just as much love behind it.

Vampire City was gone, but no matter what happened in the years to come they had each other and honestly that was all that really mattered to them.

The End!
