Chapter 7 Nico and Bianca Join the Family
"How are we scarring him?" Poseidon asked his oldest son.
"Kissing like that in front of him." Triton answered back cheekily.
"Why would that scar him? All couples kiss each other." Hades reminded him.
"Maybe so but you two looked like you were headed to other things." The Prince of the Sea answered. "Besides you were scarring me, and I have been around a lot longer than Perseus.
"Don't exaggerate Triton, you know your Papa and I were just kissing." Poseidon was shaking his head at his son's silliness. "We were just happy to see each other, since that was the first time we have been apart since the wedding."
"Dad, the wedding was only a couple days ago, and you two were acting like you were apart for weeks, not a few hours." Triton turned his eyes to watch Apollo hurrying off to his newest brother.
Apollo stood in front of Percy holding out his hand. "Hi I'm Apollo, your big brother."
Percy shook the hand. "Apollo, as the in the God of the Sun, Music and Healing and is a great archer?"
"Yep, that's me." He beamed at the younger boy, because he knew who he was.
"But I thought Apollo was Zeus's son.' Percy was shocked to see the blond boy's smile disappear.
He watched his Dad put a hand on the kid's shoulder in what he realized was comfort. Percy felt bad, because he could see for some reason his words had hurt the teenager. But wait wasn't Apollo supposed to be a man instead of a kid? He was afraid to ask though, since his last question seemed to upset the God.
Poseidon squeezed Apollo's shoulder to let him know he was there for him. "Zeus was Apollo's birth father, but he didn't appreciate or treat Apollo like he deserved to be treated. Apollo has been like a son to me for thousands of years, but about a week and a half ago Apollo, who is also the God of Prophecy made another one. That Prophecy changed many things, and one of the most important parts was Apollo became my son."
"What Dad isn't telling you is that he also became the King of Gods, so he could change some things like get a divorce from my Mother, and let Papa get a divorce from his wife. Two days ago they got married and we are all a family now." Triton explained. "Oh and Dad decided to de-age Apollo and me. He turned Apollo fourteen and me fifteen, and he says we won't get any older for a hundred years, one year of age for every hundred, because he wants to give us time to be kids. Oh I'm Triton by the way, your oldest brother." He held his hand out to the youngest Sea Prince.
"Percy," The flabbergasted boy said as he shook hands with him.
"Percy I don't know if you realize it or not, but your Papa is Hades the King of the Underworld. This is his Kingdom we're in now, your Papa and I don't want you leaving the palace while we're here for awhile. We want you to get used to the place and want one of us to be with you until that happens, there are dangerous things here." Poseidon told his youngest son. He could see the boy was stunned with all he was learning.
"Boys, please show Percy his room that your Papa fixed up for him. You might want to tell him the rules you are expected to follow while you're getting to know each other."
"Okay Dad. Come on Percy, I think you're going to like your room." Apollo threw his arm around his younger brother's shoulders leading him away.
"You want us to tell him the rules?" Triton asked in disbelief. "Shouldn't you do that?"
"It might be easier coming from you guys. Tell him the consequences, too, while you're at it." Poseidon smiled encouragingly.
"Why would it be easier coming from us?" Triton was confused.
"Percy's step-father wasn't a kind man. I'm hoping when he hears you guys talking about your punishments without fear, he will realize that even if he gets punished here that he won't be abused." Poseidon had a hard look on his face, as he remembered what he walked in on.
Hades hugged his husband close when he saw that look. He also gave a Triton a smile to let him know he would take care of his Dad.
Triton walked away feeling anger at the unknown man. He had hurt his little brother. He had hurt a child of the sea. The anger at the unknown man brought out brotherly feelings of protection for the child he just met. He had a funny feeling that meant he was going to accept Percy just as easy as he did Apollo, after all Athena slitting his blond brother's throat had brought out those same kinds of feelings.
Percy lay in his room later that night unable to sleep, as he kept looking at his fantastic room. Three fourths of the room was painted like the sea half way up the wall and a blue sky the rest of the way. That part of the room had a beautiful blue carpet with darker lines of blue and some white through it that made it look like waves flowing through the sea. The other fourth of the room had the bottom half painted like a sandy beach with the top painted like sunset was across the sky, and the floor looked like a sandy beach.
His bed was a green sailboat with an actual sail. The room held what looked like a buoy that was a shelf, a couch that looked like the top half of a whale coming up out of the sea. Both of those items were on the side with the sea painted on it. The other side had four surfboards on a rack that had them laying out like shelves on the wall where books and a boat in a bottle were sitting on it. One corner on that side had a treasure chest that had the bottom painted so it looked like it was half buried in sand. It was filled with toys and games. There was also a small tiki hut kind of bar with two stools in front of it, but on the other side a lower shelf like top was actually a desk with a laptop on it.
The most amazing thing of all was that there were fans on both sides of the wall facing the sail on his bed. They would take turns blowing, so the sail would billow on one side and then the other making Percy feel like he was at sea. There was also a recording of waves hitting the beach or the side of a boat. This room really was perfect for a young son of the Sea God and he loved it.
He closed his eyes and thought about his new family. Apollo was a fun-loving big brother. He loved to joke and play harmless pranks, and he treated Percy like he was a loved brother from the get go. He answered any questions Percy asked him and didn't make him feel dumb because he didn't know something. That alone would have made Percy adore his new big brother, but Apollo was just so loving that Percy couldn't help feeling affection for him already.
Triton on the other hand was more reserved. Apollo told him it was because the older boy's mother had convinced him through the years that their Dad having other kids meant he didn't love Triton. He said Triton was still afraid that was true, but that if Percy would give him a few days he would see a more loving Triton. That his oldest brother just needed the proof that their Dad and Papa would still love him before he would let himself show Percy his real acceptance. The young Prince of the Sea had no problem with that, because he too was insecure about his place in the family.
It had been a shock to find out his Papa was the God of the Dead, and they were right now in what consisted of Hell and Heaven. The two boys explained that all the dead came here, but the Isle of Blest and Epsylum was versions of Heaven and the Fields of Punishment was Hell. It was also strange to see skeleton guards around the palace, and Apollo told him the bat-like woman was actually a Fury, but as he was Hades' son none of them would hurt him. He couldn't help hoping that was true.
They had spent the day getting to know each other, all five of them. It had been strange that they had all sat on one couch watching a movie together right before bedtime. Triton had sat on one end leaning into their Papa's side with Percy in-between his two new parents and Apollo leaning against their Dad's other side. Both men had kept an arm wrapped around him making him feel like he was really wanted, something he hadn't felt for a really long time.
He frowned as he remembered the talk his two big brothers had with him about rules and punishments. He couldn't help worrying about if he broke the rules, no matter how much the two had assured him that he would be fine, because their Dad and Papa loved them. He would just have to wait and see if they would treat him like Gabe did.
The breeze from the fan blowing across his face made him forget about his worries, and it wasn't long before he was fast asleep.
Percy made his way from his room the next morning. He headed towards the dining room in search of breakfast. He came to a complete stop at the sight that met his eyes. His new Papa was sitting on his Dad's lap at the table, and the two men were definitely kissing. His face turned a fiery shade of red, as he tried to back out of the room without making any noise. His progress was halted when he ran into somebody behind him.
"Ouch! Where are you going Perseus?" Triton asked as he steadied a hand on the younger boy's shoulder.
His words brought their parents out of the enjoyable past time that they had been partaking in. They turned as one to see the two boys standing in the doorway. Percy seemed to be a few shades redder than normal, while Triton was rubbing his bare foot. It seemed Percy must have stepped on his foot.
"Good morning boys. Is something the matter?" Poseidon asked his sons in concern.
"Oh I think that you were back to scarring my little brother again. He was trying to make a hasty retreat when he stepped on me." Triton said with a dry tone.
""We're sorry if we embarrassed you, Percy. It was not our intention." Hades reassured him, as he climbed off of his husband's lap.
Triton rolled his eyes as he led Percy to the table. "Why the early morning show?"
"Triton," Poseidon cautioned. "We weren't trying to put on a show as you are insinuating. Your Papa is heading out after breakfast to meet Alecto. She was supposed to get Bianca and Nico out of the Lotus Casino last night. He will be bringing them home later today."
Triton did his best to hide the dismay these words caused him. He understood that the new prophecy meant that those two kids would be joining the family, but couldn't they wait until he got used to having Perseus around first?
Percy couldn't help wondering what the other two kids would be like. He glanced around trying to see if Apollo was coming yet. He liked his blond brother a lot and felt more comfortable with him around.
Not seeing him anywhere he asked. "Where's Apollo?"
"He had to drive the sun chariot this morning. He will be here soon." His Dad explained. "I told him to only stay out for a little while, so we could have a family breakfast together."
"Oh. Do you think he will take me for ride in the sun chariot sometime?" He asked eagerly.
The answer came from behind him. "I would love to."
Percy turned and beamed at the blond only to have his smile dim when he heard his Dad's words.
"That will have to wait for a little while."
"Why?" Apollo demanded with a pout.
The Sea God's eyes narrowed at his son's tone. "Because of Athena, I don't want Percy too far from your Papa or myself for the time being."
"She's going to ruin everything isn't she?" Apollo whined as he took his seat.
"Not if we can help it." Hades reassured him. "We just want to be a little cautious right now. Percy is very vulnerable at the moment. I know you wouldn't want something to happen to your little brother."
"Yeah you're right." He sighed dramatically. "I just wanted to show him a good time."
"More like you wanted to show off." Trition responded wryly.
"Hey!" The Sun God exclaimed outraged.
"You two settle down now," was the stern order from their Dad. "You are not setting a very good example for your brother."
Triton couldn't hold back the sarcastic comment. "Yeah, and you and Papa getting it on at the table was setting a good example."
Apollo actually flinched for his older brother at the look their Dad was sending him. It seemed that Triton was going to be getting into trouble today if he didn't stop with his snarkiness soon. He noticed that Percy seemed afraid to look up from his plate also.
"Triton, if you keep up with this attitude, you and I will be having a discussion in your room." The stern warning was very clear for all to understand what it meant.
Triton started backtracking fast. "Sorry Dad. I'm sorry Papa. I didn't mean anything by it."
"Uh-huh," Poseidon said, but let the subject drop from there.
"So Papa do you think you will have any trouble getting Bianca and Nico?" Apollo asked changing the subject.
"I don't think so. Alecto was going to get them out of the casino last night. I will meet them at the Hotel she took them too and introduce myself." Hades informed them all. "They might have a little problem adjusting, since I had their memories of before washed away in the River Lethe."
"Why did you do that?" Triton asked the God. That seemed a little extreme to him.
"I didn't want them to remember seeing their Mama die in front of them, or for them to worry about your Uncle Zeus coming after them."
Percy noticed the others seemed to understand that clearly, but it couldn't help making him worry about the God that was his uncle. "Why would he do that?"
Everyone gave nervous looks to the youngest of them. How to explain Zeus and his attitude to a demigod? Even as he tried Poseidon swore to himself that he was going to get the younger kids turned to Gods soon. He didn't want to worry about their mortality. No, he didn't think Zeus would do anything to bring on his wrath now, but Athena was definitely trying to find a way to hurt him and his family.
Percy listened with wide-eyes as he was told the story of the oaths that the three sons of Kronos had made about not having any more demigod kids after World War Two. It had taken some fast talking on his Dad's part to convince him that he wasn't a mistake.
A couple hours after breakfast, Hades was on his way to get his demigod children. Poseidon and his three sons were in Triton's room in Hades' Palace. They had decided to spend the time bonding while waiting for the rest of the family to come home.
Percy couldn't believe his eyes at seeing Triton's room. He had thought his room was the most amazing thing he had seen, but Triton's was just as spectacular in a different way.
The room was more than twice the size of Percy's own room. The walls were painted in murals that made the whole room feel like it was in the middle of the ocean. The ceiling looked like you were looking up from under water. There were different shapes that appeared to be the bottoms of different kinds of ships and even a couple of whales.
The thing that really stunned him the most though was that the room was three/fourths covered in a saltwater swimming pool. It was evidently more than ten feet deep. On three sides of the pool was a small walkway leading to the fourth of the room that actually had a bed in it.
The bed was queen sized and covered in a green comforter with a large gold trident on it. It had about a dozen pillows and each of them was covered in different patterns of tridents on them. There were six chairs that were made out of opened clam shells. There was a desk that seemed to be made out of part of the coral reef.
They all four got into the water to explore it, and Percy loved what he found. The bottom of the pool was covered in sand. There were actually some different kinds of sea life down there. On one side of the pool there was a ledge that reminded you of a couch, so you could sit underwater as if it was the most normal thing in the world. He loved the underwater cave that was under the part of the room that didn't seem to have a pool in it from the top.
His eyes got big when Triton told him that their Papa had that fixed, so he could sleep there instead of in the bed above if he wanted. The older boy explained that it was this consideration that made him realize that the God of the Underworld really did care about him. It showed how much he wanted Triton to feel at home in his place.
Percy loved it when Apollo turned into a golden dolphin and played chase with him in the pool. Triton joined them in the game when he turned his legs into two merman tails. Their Dad was sitting on the ledge couch watching them. He also had a merman tail. Percy was a little disappointed when he couldn't do that too.
"Don't worry son as soon as you are made a God you will have the same ability." His dad reassured him.
"Can Apollo do it too?" He asked curiously..
"No," Apollo said disappointedly. "But I can swim better than I used too, and as one of my sacred animals is a dolphin I'm good."
"Yeah and he doesn't need any more powers than he already has." Triton pointed out. "Our brother is already conceited enough."
"Hey!" Apollo pouted. "It's not conceit when it's true that you are great."
"See what I mean Perseus." Triton groused.
Percy's mouth opened like a gaping fish when he realized that all four of them were able to hear each other in their minds while in the water. Apollo told him this had only been possible when he was a dolphin until Poseidon claimed him as his son, but now he could now talk to any of the creatures of the sea when in the water, even when he was in human form.
Hades was standing in front of Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. He didn't want to admit, even to himself, that he was nervous to meet his children again after all of this time. What if they didn't like him? What if they resented him when they found out that he took away their memories? He also didn't want to admit to himself, that he really wished Poseidon was here with him for this first meeting. His husband was definitely more of a people person than he was.
He was the God of the Dead for Poseidon's sake. He couldn't believe he was quaking in his shoes to meet his own children. He would never live this down, if anybody ever found out his fear right now. He could just imagine Ares reaction. That thought alone had him pushing the fear down and entering the casino.
Nico Di Angelo was excited. He couldn't sit still, because last night a lawyer named Alec Fury came and got his sister and him from the place they were staying. He brought them to this hotel and told them that their father was coming to get them today, so he could take them home where they belonged.
His big sister Bianca didn't seem as excited for some reason. The truth be told he could tell she seemed to be angry at the thought. He couldn't figure out why she was acting that way. Nico thought it would be great to have a father, even if the lawyer wasn't giving them much information. He had been trying to get the man to tell them more ever since they woke up this morning.
"Nico settle down." Bianca scolded.
This made the ten year old boy frown. He was so tired of his sister telling him what to do. She was only two years older than him, but she acted like she was his Mom. It got old after a while. She was just a kid herself, but you wouldn't think that, with how she treated him. He really couldn't help hoping that his father would put a stop to Bianca bossing him around when they got with him.
His excitement grew when he heard a knock on the hotel room door. He dashed over to open it before the other two could stop him. Throwing the door wide, he looked up in awe at the man standing on the other side. The man was around six feet tall, which was immense to a ten year old on the small side. He had wavy black hair to his shoulders, black eyes, a beard and moustache, and he gave off an aura of immense power.
He was so stunned by the man before him that he couldn't even speak. He just stood there in the doorway staring with wide eyes.
"Well hello Nico. Are you going to invite me in?" Hades asked trying to hide the smile the boy's reaction was bringing on.
"Wh...what?" Nico finally stuttered out.
"Oh Nico move out of the way and let him in." Bianca ordered, as she pulled her younger brother away from the door.
Hades stared at his daughter in disbelief. He couldn't believe she was treating her younger brother like that. It wasn't like Nico had done anything wrong. He could tell the little boy was just surprised by his appearance.
"Bianca, please don't speak to your brother that way." He told her firmly without trying to sound harsh. "And you shouldn't jerk him around like a ragdoll. You could hurt him."
Bianca glared at him. Who was he to tell her how to treat Nico? She had been the one looking after her little brother after all. Where had he been when they needed him?
Hades had to fight to hide his shock at seeing that hateful glare on his little girl's face, a face that resembled her mother so much. Maria had never looked at him like that. He doubted she had ever sent anybody a glare of death. It must be something she had inherited from him.
"Who are you?" Bianca asked in a hard voice.
"I'm your Papa." He gave a tentative smile.
"Where have you been? Why don't we know you? Where is our mother?" she asked in rapid fire succession.
"It is a long story and I want to explain it to you. Can we please sit down and let me answer in my own way?"
Nico pulled away from Bianca and hurried to take a seat on the couch. "I'm ready."
Hades couldn't stop his smile, at his little boy's eager expression. He could tell his child still had all the innocence a child of ten should have. In some ways that eagerness reminded him of Apollo, even if they looked nothing alike.
He began the tale of what happened to their mother with his little boy curled up next him. Bianca was sitting in a chair across from them, and she was still glaring at him. The more he spoke the more intense the glare became. He was really wishing that Poseidon was here. The man was a natural father, and he could tell that his little girl was going to need the man's patience and expertise in these matters.
"So now that I have married Poseidon, and he is the new King of the Gods, we have decided to bring you home. You will have three other brothers to love you." He told them in an upbeat voice.
"Three more brothers?" Bianca questioned in disbelief.
"Yes. Triton, who was Poseidon's son with his ex-wife. He has been de-aged to fifteen. Apollo, who was Zeus's child, but was claimed by Poseidon and de-aged to fourteen. And last but not least, Perseus, or rather Percy who was born to your new Dad and a mortal woman. He is eleven years old.
"I thought you said that you three swore not to have any more kids." His daughter said, with enough scorn to have been Artemus talking to Apollo. "And being married to another man is disgusting."
Hades was just about to give his daughter the scolding of a life time for her attitude, when his youngest son piped up.
"You mean our family is the Greek Gods of myth, like in my Myth-o-magic game?" His excitement at the idea had his black eyes shining with glee.
"I don't know anything about the game, but yes we are those Gods." He assured the little boy.
"Wait a minute," Nico exclaimed happily. "Are you Hades? The God of the Underworld, Hades?"
Hades gave a chuckle, "Yes, that is exactly who I am." But to his surprise he saw the little face frown all of a sudden. "Are you disappointed in that?"
The little black head was shaking vigorously. "No, no of course not. I was just thinking you are the only figurine from the game I don't have, and you being my Papa makes that seem wrong."
Well we will just have to see about getting that one for you," He assured him. "If we can't find it, I'm sure Aphrodite can. She is brilliant at shopping."
"Stop talking about that stupid game." Bianca ordered imperiously. "How can you be married to a man?"
"First of all Bianca, I would suggest you lose the attitude. I really don't like it at all." The God of the Dead said sternly. "And I know you were born at time that many thought being gay was wrong. But you have to remember I'm from a different time. We didn't care about whether someone was male or female, just that they were loved. It was Christianity that decided it was wrong for two people of the same sex to love each other. It is just something you will have to get used too. This day and age it is more common than in your time. There are still those that look down on it, but it is becoming more acceptable with each passing year."
He could see that she didn't seem happy with his answer, but he decided to try to explain more later, to hopefully make her understand. Now it was time to get the kids home and make the family complete.
"Come on kids, It's time to go home." He stood up and held a hand out towards each child. When they had clasped his hands, he shadowed them into his palace.
"What was that?" They cried out in unison, clutching their stomachs at the same time.
"It's called shadow traveling, and it is one of my powers. Hopefully with you being my kids you can learn to do it too." He spoke soothingly, while looking around for his family.
He was just getting ready to ask one of the many dead soldiers guarding the place, where his family was, when he heard behind him.
"Papa, you're back."
The three of them spun around to see Apollo hurrying towards them. He noticed Percy was heading their way more slowly. The child seemed uncertain if he wanted to approach them.
Hopefully having updated this story will help me get back to my writing.
