Hello guys :)

First, a big THANK YOU for everyone who's reading this story. Seriously, I saw all the people who put this on their alerts, and it means the world to me. The feedback I've been getting for this project is bigger than what I ever imagined. To everyone who reviewed, followed, favorited, and for those who just read it: Thank you!

You all know that I'm trying to follow the show with these drabbles, but I guess you also know that I'm not really watching TVD anymore (I catch it up from tumblr, because I'm not here for delena fooling around/Bonnie getting hurt/Stefan getting hurt), so if there are any inconsistencies, mea culpa. This one takes place during/after 5x05 "Monster's Ball."

Have fun :)

Talking to Him

VI

Solitude

.

"You will go back. Soon."

She had her eyes staring blankly at her hands, but she raised them at the sound of his voice. She smiled sadly at him, not really wanting to get up from the Salvatores' couch. She was feeling like gravity had hardened its grab over her. Hopeless.

"You heard it" That was definitely not a question. "I wouldn't be counting on that. Damon's plan is… crazy."

Kol stood silent until it got a little awkward between them. Bonnie brushed her palms over her jeans, and she was almost getting up when she heard him clear his throat.

"I believe… I believe he is determined" Kol approached her but, taking a disapproving look at his surroundings, decided not to sit beside her on the couch. "And, the sooner or the later, that Salvatore prick seems to always achieve what he pursues."

Bonnie laughed, not knowing if it was because of the look on Kol's face when he realized he was almost touching Damon's furniture, because of the way he spelled "prick", or because it was true.

Damon wanted to get in the tomb, he did it. Damon wanted Elena, and he got her. Even tho none of those things came out as he expected, nobody could call him a quitter.

"I just never imagined I would be hoping for him to succeed"

Bonnie's eyes widened. Kol smirked at the sight and offered his hand for her to get up, like the gentleman he could be when he wanted.

"Do you really think that I could…"

"I do." He cutted in, when she accepted his hand. "Out of all the people I have ever met, you deserve to live the most."

Bonnie shivered and then realized it was the first time they touched since his death. She expected it to be more of a supernatural experience, instead it felt so normal. His hand even felt warm against hers, and she didn't get the "vampire" warning that usually came when touching one. It was just them. Not a vampire and a witch anymore. Just Bonnie and Kol at the edge of the world.

I'm gonna miss that.

"You gonna be alone" she said, as it hit her. Kol had been alone for most of his life and, even as she didn't know much about him of one thing she was sure: he hated it.

"I can always go to you, like I used to" he waved it off with his hand, but Bonnie could see he was upset. "And is passed the time I go haunt my siblings, for a change. Specially Rebekah." He pointed with a mischievous grin.

When he placed one hand in her cheek, still holding hers with the other, and leaned closer, Bonnie felt her dead heart flicker. But he didn't kiss her.

Instead, he scanned every inch of her face with dark eyes. She stood, trying not to move, and let him. And it felt too much like a goodbye.

When he let go of her hand and took a step back, he wanted to scream. It had been too long having pretty much only him, and the thought of not having him anymore left an aching hole in her chest.

"If he does, if Damon succeeds in bringing me back to life... I promise you Kol, I will" She stopped herself. Could she? Of course there should be a safer way to perform a ressurection spell, but could she? This was Kol, the vampire who tried to kill her, who tried to kill Jeremy. Original psycho Kol. But there she was, promising to revive him. "I will find a way to get you back too." Damn well she could!

"Sometimes I doubt you are real." He said, with a smile. Then he left, and Bonnie was alone again.

And, for the first time in a while, she caught herself hoping, too, that Damon could succeed.
