So I have this AU headcanon that male!Tsukuyo had a past different to his female counter part. While Tsukuyo scarred her face to shed away a side of herself, Tsukuo did that out of guilt for the bad things he'd done before meeting Hinowa. His past is left for you to wonder, I couldn't bring it out properly in this humble drabble.

Title: Loving Soul.

Pairing: Genderbent!Gintsuki.

Summary: Loving someone who loved you with all your faults is pretty confusing.

Loving Soul

He's in her house again, it's something he does a lot these days.

She's sleeping, arms falling out of the couch and Jump on her face.

It's these kind of moments that Tsukuo kneels in front of the couch, observes and wonders.

How did we end up together?

It has been two months since they established that they're a couple (well, sort of) and he still didn't find an answer to that question.

He hinted, she accepted and now he's gently lifting Jump off her face and smoothing her hair away from it, captivated by how soft her hair was despite the apparent perm.

He once scarred his face, reminding himself to atone of his bad deeds, reminding himself about his vow of loyalty to Hinowa, the ever lasting sun of Yoshiwara, every time he saw his scars.

But then she sweeps in his life, perm and nonsense along, and saves him.

"As long as you don't let these scars reach your heart, as long as they remained on surface, your soul will always be beautiful," she once said, on a peaceful night with its full moon shining.

He realized at that moment that he fell for her, fell for her dead-fish eyes, fell for her perm hair, fell for her childish acts…

Fell for her soul.

Maybe that's why, even though he will never forgive himself for the past, he was attracted to her even more as the days passed and couldn't keep his feelings to himself.

Tsukuo smiled fondly when she let out a loud snore, and leaned in to place a soft kiss on her forehead.

How did we end up together? he asks every time.

He never finds the answer.

He's content though, after all, why would he question his happiness?

End.
