Big Bad Alpha Teaser

The bandit ran as quickly as he could through the forest. He was leaping over branches and ducking under limbs. He had to get back to camp—he had to warn everyone else. There was a howl behind the bandit and he felt his heart thunder harder against his ribs. His legs were on fire and his lungs ached with each gasping breath. He couldn't stop now.

He wasn't paying attention to what he was doing for just a moment. His boot caught on a tree root and he pitched forward. He hit his knee with a jar and his ankle twisted from the momentum. He skidded across the forest floor and scrapped the skin of his face and palms. Pain flared up his side and his leg throbbed. A twig snapped to his left and the bandit scrambled away. His eyes widened in fear as a menacing beast stepped out of the foliage.

"No," the man whimpered, his voice shaking, "Please, God no," He turned to run, but the beast was quicker. The man screamed only for a moment before his throat was ripped out by large, sharp teeth. After eating its fill, the beast sat back. It licked its bloodied muzzle for a moment and then turned to walk away. One moment, there was a hulking black wolf, and then the next a man walked through the forest. His newly acquired boots crunched across the rocks. He stopped for a moment and looked up between the canopies. He squinted at the moonlight filtering through the leaves. The man then raised his hand and licked at the drying blood on his fingers.

"Maybe I should pay my most favorite nephew a visit," he mused.
