I don't own Harry Potter or the Legend of Zelda
Alright, so I'm finally back. My apologies for staying away so long. You guys totally don't deserve that. Hope ya don't mind that this is part of one mass update. Enjoy the chapter.
Hermione paced in the room one of the castle attendants had led her to. She took in the environment around her. A canopy bed decorated in blue and gold hues, matching the walls which were painted in a similar manner and the chest of drawers was a rich mahogany wood. It wasn't overly extravagant and most likely used mainly for visitors or guests.
Sighing, the young witch sat on the bed and wondered how her friends were doing without her. They're probably worried sick. How do I even begin to explain where I've been? Would they even believe me?
A shattering thought suddenly burst into her mind. What if… I CAN'T get back? Fear gripped Hermione's heart as she thought of being stuck in this realm for the rest of her life. No! I can't think like that. One way or another, I'm going to get back to the United Kingdom. I need to; Harry and Ron need me.
Deciding that she really needed something to take her mind off of the disturbing forboding thoughts, Hermione slipped from the room and crept through the castle. It was fairly large, completely expected of course, but still a slight problem. Moving through the corridors, the witch fought to remain unnoticed as she made her way to a large room. Hiding quickly behind a couch as a group of people walked in, Hermione stayed put until they were finished and left. Standing as she heard the door close, Hermione glanced around and felt her heart stop.
Books.
Several hundred thousand books lined shelves for as far as she could see. The room was massive and very beautiful itself, but the thought of all of those books made Hermione feel as though she were a little girl at Christmastime. Moving slowly among the books, she decided to start from the beginning and work her way through the library.
Coming to the first shelf, Hermione grabbed the first three books there and moved over to one of the couches to begin reading. The first book in the stack was All There is to Know About Elves. The book was roughly as thick as Hogwarts: A History so it shouldn't have been too hard a read.
Opening the book, Hermione began reading, letting the hours slip away as she examined as many books as she could. Before she knew it, the sun had reached quite a ways in the sky and Princess Zelda stood in the doorway, watching as Hermione moved to another shelf, beginning to read before she even reached the couch.
"You enjoy reading?" the princess called, startling the other elf. Hermione instantly reached for her wand before remembering that she no longer had one.
"P-Princess." Hermione bowed momentarily before glancing around. She hadn't even noticed when the servants lit torches along the walls and around the library, a fire blazing across the room in an open space. She hadn't even realized that she had been reading for so long.
"Good evening." The princess murmured, dipping her head to Hermione.
"Good evening, Your Majesty." The witch replied politely, bowing once more.
"Come, I shall escort you to our training room. It is where young elves begin learning their magic." Hermione followed along behind the monarch as she was led through the castle to the west wing. There, Hermione was astonished to see several different training rooms filled with different students, all of varying ages. In one room labeled 'Weaponry – Novice', she glanced in and found several teenaged elves practicing with wooden swords on mastering the techniques with wooden dummies at the back of the room. Seeing the dummies reminded Hermione of the DA meetings she, Ron and Harry had hosted in fifth year and it made her heart ache for her home.
Continuing after Princess Zelda, Hermione kept her head low as she passed the rooms, not wanting to be reminded of her own dimension too much in case she grew depressed. Princess Zelda noticed the change in her new student's demeanor and wondered what could have caused the girl to become so subdued. Coming to an empty practice room that focused on beginner's magic, the princess ushered Hermione inside and the witch turned to face her as the door closed.
"Alright," Princess Zelda began. "Elf magic is primarily elemental. Fire, water, earth and air. To begin, try bringing a flame to your fingertip."
"Okay." Hermione raised her hand and flicked her forefinger up, concentrating on conjuring fire. Nothing happened.
The witch stared at her finger again, astonished that the spell she had used so many times wasn't working. Attempting to cast it once more, she began to panic when still nothing happened. Princess Zelda moved around to stand in front of her and Hermione instantly ceased flicking her finger lest the spell decide to work and accidentally burn the princess.
"What are you doing?" the monarch inquired.
"Trying to produce fire." Hermione replied, eyebrows creased in confusion.
"Then why do you keep using that strange hand motion?" Princess Zelda continued.
"Because in order to produce the fire, you have to flick your wand and chant-."
"No." Hermione stopped in surprise. "There are no spells or chants or strange hand movements. Simply focus on making fire."
The young witch nodded and slowly held up her hand, concentrating on making fire. A flame gradually began to form and Princess Zelda nodded. "Very good. Now, stop concentrating and simply imagine a flame."
Hermione gave her an odd look. Is she mental? What is that going to accomplish? Deciding to heed the princess' instructions, Hermione cleared her mind, held her hand aloft and pictured the blue fire she and her best friends used to sit around during winter days at Hogwarts because the castle had no heating systems. After picturing it for a few moments, Hermione heard a soft whisper. "Open your eyes."
Doing as the princess had ordered, Hermione opened her eyes to find blue flame on her fingertip. Blue-flecked brown eyes widened in shock and Hermione brought it closer to eye level in order to further examine it. "I… I don't believe it." She murmured, rolling the flame from one finger to the next without a thought. "I don't understand…"
"This is not your realm." Princess Zelda pointed out. "In your realm, there are complications when it comes to magic and it can go wrong so quickly. Here, magic is primarily elemental and comes not from the mind, but from the heart and soul."
Hermione looked up at the princess with curious uncertain eyes and nodded her understanding. "Can I still… I want to preserve my knowledge of my own dimension." She murmured. "I don't want to forget how to do magic there."
"You shall have access to all of the parchment and quills you need." Princess Zelda told her, dipping her head courteously. "Are you ready to continue?"
Hermione stared at the blue flame in her hand and cocked her head, rolling it for a moment before smiling and looking up at the princess. "Yes, Your Majesty."
Ah, I think that's a beautiful ending to this chapter. Review and tell me what you think of it while I'm working on the next one.
