Ok I know its been 1.5 YEARS since the last update and this one probably isn't my best work but its something at least. I haven't abandoned the story, I just got kind of busy studying for MCAT and trying to get into medical school haha.
The boys came sauntering back into Singer Salvage with arms brimming with food and supplies ready to be allotted between the several ice-chests and trunks for the trip. They were all on the same page that this battle was the big one and there wouldn't be time to restock once they left. There wouldn't be time for much of anything actually. With that in mind, they packed everything up and hit the road. Sam and Dean led the way in the impala with Bobby's old truck and Bela's Mercedes following close behind. Dean made a comment at one of the gas station pit stops that they must look like a rather unusual caravan to go passing through some of these small towns that lay between them and Colorado.
They finally stopped to make camp just shy of the border between Nebraska and Colorado. The sun was getting low on the horizon and they needed to make camp for the night. They found a forest clearing not too far off the road and started pulling out the tents and sleeping bags they'd need for the night. Bobby had been adamant that you don't go into a fight tired if you can help it and they could all use one more night of rest before coming face to face with Lilith.
"If you guys had told me this was the plan from the start, I would have found a more suitable place to sleep. You all may be fine with sleeping in dirt, but some of us have standards. Such as a floor or walls perhaps." Bela began complaining as she realized that they hadn't been joking before over the walkie talkies that they were pulling over to sleep for the night.
"Floors aren't as necessary as one might think. Besides, I'm not seeing any Holiday Inn's around here so I guess you'll just have to deal with it." Dean said cheekily as he gathered some wood to start a fire. Car rides always put him in a good mood; as did building fires just for warmth. It was a nice change of pace from building them to burn bodies he thought.
Bobby and Sam had the tents put together with practiced ease and grabbed two grocery bags out of the cars.
"What have you there?" Bela asked once she saw Dean's eyes light up as he saw the bags.
The men glanced around at each other grinning silently before Same spoke up.
"Tradition: liquor." He said as he raised the bag in his right hand. "and snacks." as he raised his left.
Bobby settled down on a log that Dean had moved around the make shift fire pit. "Last night on earth. Gotta make the most of it."
"You have a tradition for the last night on earth?" Bela asked incredulously.
Dean chuckled as he took his second swig from one of the bottles. "When you are in messes like this as much as we are, you gotta have some routine to keep you sane. Ours is drinking. Oh and tonight, we added in s'mores!"
He passed the bottle of whiskey along with the bag of marshmallows to Bela who grabbed the bottle but just eyed the bag with disgust.
"Oh come on Buzz kill, eat the marshmallow!"
"Not going to happen."
"fine then I'll eat it." Dean laughed as he snagged the bag back over to his side. "You don't know what you're missing!"
"True." She laughed as she downed another gulp of the brown liquid.
That got the attention of Sam and Bobby who had been up till then ignoring the two. "Bela, tell me you've made a s'more before." Sam with a jokingly stern look in his eye as he took a drink from his own bottle.
"I've eaten in the finest restaurants in the world. Forgive me if I choose to pass on eating burnt sugar on a stick." She shot back with a smile. She could feel the warmth of the fire on her feet and the warmth of the alcohol as it went down her throat.
Sam grabbed another small branch from the wood pile and sharpened the tip with one of his knives before jamming a marshmallow forcefully on the end and resting it just above the flames. "Well tonight, you're trying one. And I'll even make it myself as Dean just makes coal out of his."
"I do not!" The older brother called back as he pulled his marshmallow out of the flames and blew out the flaming sugar leaving one side black and crunchy. "This way gives it flavor."
"Haha, I always thought I was exaggerating when I mocked hunters for being cavemen!" Bela laughed as an ember dropped an inch away from Dean's foot and he jumped up startled.
Sam rolled his eyes and kept rotating the two sticks in his command until they were golden brown on all sides. He sandwiched them between graham crackers and a piece of chocolate before walking around the fire to hand it to Bela. She looked up at him, surprised not only by the delicious treat she'd been given but by his chivalry.
"Everyone has to try it at least once in their life." He shrugged in explanation. "Now story time! Tell a story, take a drink."
"You're serious? Story time?"
"It's tradition!" The men called in unison. Bobby started the ball rolling with a story of him and Rufus taking down a Wendigo that ended with Rufus in a tree making bird calls to get his attention after dropping Rufus had dropped his walkie talkie in the river. Sam countered with a tale about Dean getting caught in an animal trap and getting hauled up into the air by a rope around his ankle until their dad cut him down. Dean tried to defend himself as the group broke out laughing from the mental image and tried to get back at Sam with being hit on by the octogenarian while hunting for the Hand of Glory. Bela saw her opening and made sure to explain how she got the better of the boys in full detail for Bobby's benefit.
As the night went on, they swapped stories of their messiest kill and Bela and Bobby discussed their greatest finds in regards to rare talismans and charm ingredients.
At some point during the night, Bela realized that this was the most she'd said to anyone that wasn't part of a con in years. It was actually kind of nice not having to keep track of what role she was playing and instead, just speak. Granted, a large part of that was alcohol induced rather than truly turning over a new leaf but in her tipsy state, she could acknowledge how nice it was to have a conversation without having an angle. Besides, the boys, especially Dean, had already seen her at her worst so she didn't need to worry about her reputation with them at least.
Finally, Bobby rose from his spot by the slowly dying fire and grunted his goodnight before heading off to his tent and the boys and Bela quickly followed suit. As fun as it was spending a night unwinding and reliving the good times, it just wouldn't do to wake up tomorrow with a hangover so there were no complaints in calling it a night.

There ya go. Please review. It was a review tonight that got me to write this. God bless.
