Author's Note: A small birthday fic for the Frisky Firelilly. She gave me the prompt lost and by pure coincidence I had the song 'Lost Along The Way' by Staind come on my i-pod. This is the result. Sorry for not posting this here sooner. Thanks to Kuryakingirl for the beta.

Here today.

Gone tomorrow.

He was lost. He wasn't sure of his place any more, he had doubts, so he didn't wallow in the time he had been given.

He left. He needed to.

While she hadn't objected to him leaving, it was only now that she knew she was in error. Her Jayne-man should never have left. Serenity wasn't the same without him.

She didn't take much notice of Mal or the others as they queried as to why she had altered course. They had thought this behaviour was another part of her trigger and that she might be going crazy again, but the safe word didn't work.

They couldn't hear him anyway.

She could always hear him, even though they were apart.

It was raining when Serenity landed. The whole town was in chaos, but not because of the weather.

Thankfully, it weren't Reavers.

It was all down to very bad men. They had to be stopped.

He had tried, but he needed help.

She just had to follow the signal.

The rain got worse, it was thick and heavy. The booming thunder and howling wind tried its best to slow her down, but there was no way it was going to, nor was it going to drown him out.

He was weak, failing.

But she found him in the end.

He was fighting so hard that even now, as he dropped to his knees, he was taking swings at the five men surrounding him.

He didn't like the killing of innocent wimmin and children, weren't his thing, so that was why he stood up to them. Told them what for.

He was too outmatched.

She had no guns, no knives, but then she didn't need any of those to kill.

It was easy for her.

The crack of their necks and the wet thud of their bodies as they fell into the mud barely registered in her mind as she dropped down next to him.

"Found you." She whispered lovingly into his ear.

He was so messed up. Weak, broken and bloody. He couldn't possibly talk.

"Come home. Please?"

She heard him reply in her head.

Yeah, I will bao bei.
