Umino Iruka was almost relieved when the ANBU had arrived and took the strange woman who was ranting about the Uzumaki being wiped from history before he was forced to deal with the situation. Despite what the woman claimed, it wasn't as if it was being done on purpose, Uzushiogakure had been destroyed during the Second War and therefore they currently weren't as relevant as say, Konoha's current alliance with Suna. Considering the fact that they had little physical involvement with Konoha's founding, it was understandable that they weren't mentioned all that much when that history was being gone over either.
Alright, he might've recalled learning a little more about the Uzumaki than he recalled teaching about them, but further studies on Konoha and its past relations was for historians, and his students just needed to know that the village was founded and what led to the current political landscape so they didn't accidentally put their foot in it during a joint mission or during a mission involving an allied or non-allied country. If any of his students wanted to know what the spirals on the standard Konoha uniform were for and why they were there, they could very easily go to the library to look it up.
He remembered finding any number of books on the subject when he was a student. In fact, there was an entire shelf dedicated to the Uzumaki clan. He couldn't recall exactly where in the library that shelf was, because the library had gotten re-organized after the damage that had been caused by the Kyuubi attack, but he knew for certain that there was a shelf on the Uzumaki somewhere in the library's history section.
The very idea that Konoha would hide the existence of the Uzumaki just to cover up a failing on the part of the village was just silly.
When the ANBU had departed with the woman, it had been the end of just another event in yet another strange day. He'd been having a lot of those lately, especially after Naruto had started bragging about being the Sandaime's son before Asuma had set him straight.
"Who was that?" Naruto asked as he gazed out the window from which the ANBU had departed.
"I don't know." he replied before dismissing the incident and getting the subject back on topic. "But, you were going to explain why the Yondaime's name is above your own on the Senju family tree."
"...Uh, my mom and the Kyuubi?" Naruto offered lamely.
"Nice try." he said before setting the boy to writing more lines, this time about not defacing priceless heirlooms and telling him that he would be bringing him to the library to personally apologize to the head librarian afterward.
Such things as the Uzumaki boy had offered to cover his guilt in the defacement of the Senju family tree had been bandied about before, and quite often in a far more crude manner than how the boy had stated it, but he knew for a fact that it couldn't possibly be the truth. First of all, if the Biju could turn into people without being sealed into people, someone would've noticed long ago and said something about it. Second of all, the physics involved alone...It just didn't bear thinking.
Ignoring that part of his mind that was quietly comparing the Uzumaki boy to the Yondaime Hokage and finding similarities that probably were merely his imagination, he went to supervize Naruto before the boy booby-trapped the classroom again.
The Hokage groaned as the report about the Academy intruder hit his desk. Due to the fact that the Uzumaki had kept themselves to pretty much one area and one family, the Uzumaki and their descendants who counted themselves amongst their number were few, unlike their prolific cousins. The thing was, despite the fact that they were few, they were a loud, extremely family-oriented few. A loud, extremely family-oriented few who knew how to air the right portions of Konoha's dirty laundry and drive the village's customers away.
Following the fall of Uzushiogakure, the vast majority of the Uzumaki survivors had shunned Konoha, probably out of bitterness over Konoha's failure to protect their allies. However, some Uzumaki who acknowledged that Konoha was going through its own difficulties at the time, and that the attack had happened too quickly for reinforcements to do much good did come to Konoha either to live or to do trade with the village. If this group chose to withdraw their support, support which had helped preserve the village's image since there were apparently no hard feelings between Konoha and the few surviving Uzumaki, the damage it could do was immeasurable.
Should the relationship between Konoha and the Uzumaki turn antagonistic, there was an additional problem. Namely, Naruto.
He'd told the Konoha contingent of Uzumaki that Naruto was an orphan whose mother had been known to Kushina that had been given the Uzumaki name at her request shortly before she had died. Seeing as none of them had been in a position to or even wanted to care for the Kyuubi's vessel at the time, they had quietly accepted this story since it had absolved them of all responsibility towards the boy who everyone could see had the wrong hair color to be an Uzumaki. Should the Konoha Uzumaki whose Kyuubi-related antipathy towards the boy had made them avoid him like most of the rest of the villagers decide to take a closer look, especially now that they were riled up over the changes the committee he'd placed in charge of the Academy curriculum had made to the history texts, the shit could hit the fan.
The theft of Clan children was a serious matter, and even mere accusations of such could tarnish one's reputation well after they were in the grave.
Deciding that since misery liked company, and that he was soon in for a great deal of it, he decided to spread it around. Setting the report aside, he called for the Chunin who was currently serving as his secretary.
"Yes, Hokage-sama?" the man said almost timidly upon entering his office, having apparently sensed his mood and the barely restrained Killing Intent he had begun radiating.
"Have those who are responsible for the Academy curriculum sent to my office." he said calmly, cooly, and collectedly.
Wondering at the wet stain that rapidly spread from the crotch of the secretary's trousers as he pelted from the room like a frightened animal, he leaned back to wait. Soon, despite the fact that there would be misery to spread around, there would be an ample number of people to share it with, starting with the idiots who had started the problem he would do his best to cut off at the pass in the first place.
Normally, he would've had them executed for going around him in such an egregious manner and allowing it to get to the point where it ended up biting him in the butt, but death was too kind for the likes of them. He was going to throw them to the Uzumaki.
As he headed home that night, Konoha's head librarian was functioning on autopilot. Earlier, Umino Iruka had brought Uzumaki Naruto to apologize for vandalizing one of Konoha's most priceless heirlooms. The manner in which the Chunin and the boy who had grudgingly apologized on the Academy Instructor's orders had claimed the scroll had been vandalized was impossible though. Considering the seals that had been placed on the document, there was no way in hell anybody, much less an Academy student could modify any of the entries.
Deciding to check to make sure that the Uzumaki who was apparently on the document for some strange reason hadn't crossed out his father's name and substituted the Yondaime's, or even crossed out someone else's name and put his own down where it didn't belong, he had requested the scroll only to learn that it had been placed under a ten-year seal on the Hokage's orders.
Considering the fact that books had been pulled because they'd contained information that could lead one to an S-ranked secret with minimal investigation before, there was only one reason he could think of for why the Senju family tree had been pulled. An examination of the Yondaime's reading history which had been preserved for posterity and a quick search of the card catalogue seemed to confirm his assumption.
The one out of place book on the man's reading list, a book which had been checked out within a year of the Uzumaki's birth, had a main character named Naruto.
