Chapter 1

Aria's POV

Sable snatched the crossbow from the man at his side and trained it on Roar. "You think that'll change anything?" Roar said, his voice hard. "It doesn't matter what you do. She'll never be yours." "You think so?" Sable asked. He firmed his grip on the weapon, readying to fire. "No!" Aria thrust the satchel out over the wall. "If you want the Smarteye back, swear you won't hurt him. Swear in front of your men you won't, or I'll drop it." "If you do that, Dweller, I will kill you both." Liv surged forward, sword swinging. Sable adjusted his aim and fired. The bolt left the crossbow.

"Liv!" Roar shouted and shoved her back into me. He screamed as the crossbow bolt lodged itself into his left arm. "Roar!" Liv screeched her eyes brimming with tears. I grabbed her arm and Roar's good arm and pulled them out the window and into the Snake River. They splashed into the water and sunk like a stone. Still holding onto both Roar and Liv's arms, I furiously kicked in the water trying to pull all of us up over the surface of the water. Liv pulled her arm out of mine and latched onto Roar's waist. She began to kick and pull Roar, who squeezed his eyes shut in pain, but still kicked also. We finally broke out of the water and swam to shore. We hurried to the woods and made it about a mile in before I stopped. "Stop. Too cold," I said through chattering teeth. Roar and Liv nodded in agreement and we all plopped to the ground. I pulled my knees to my chest and rubbed my arms, attempting to get warm again. Liv hovered over Roar and looked worriedly at him. "Liv. I'm fine," He reassured her. "Why did you do that?" She asked. "Because I love you, and I couldn't let you die," He answered. She pursed her lips, but said nothing more. Finally she said, "I have to get that bolt out. It's gonna hurt like hell, but you have to trust me." "I trust you," He answered back. She nodded and pulled out her knife, sliding it into the wound. Roar gasped and clenched his teeth to keep from crying out in pain. Liv kept her focus on the task at hand, but frowned more. Worry clouded her eyes. Roar groaned and I looked away, unable to see him in so much pain. "Got it," Liv finally said and I heard something fall to the ground. I looked up and Roar breathed a sigh of relief, but kept a look of pain on his face. Liv tore a piece of fabric off of the hem of her t-shirt and tied it securely around Roar's upper arm. "Better?" She asked hopefully. "Better." Roar agreed and we all fell into restless sleep.

Sorry if that was crappy and sorry that it was short. The next chapter should be longer. I hopeā€¦
