Chapter 11

The next few months were long and hard. Daphne and I spent little time together outside of classes because I was always in my extra lessons with Snape, or working on my Dark Arts training. Finally however it was time for the Christmas break and I had a date with what Sirius 'affectionately' christened Casa Black North, the new code name for Azkaban.

It was the night before Tonks was to come and pick me up and Daphne and I were snuggled up together on the couch in the recreated Gryffindor Common Room in the Room of Requirement. "Do you have to go tomorrow?" she mumbled into my shoulder.

"I don't like it either; if it were up to me I'd stay here all holidays and ravage you day and night, but I have to go and visit my mum before I go and see my muggle parents." She groaned out her displeasure into the aforementioned shoulder. "Besides, I'll be cooped up under guard for the holiday, while you go home and actually spend the entire time with your family… Now enough complaining, we need to make the most of the time we have left." I said before snogging her.

Daphne was still unhappy when I left the following morning. Although several hours of secluded snogging the night before had certainly cooled her temper some. It wasn't that she didn't understand the reasons for the forced separation, as she did like her girlfriend to be still breathing, but more the fact that she didn't like them. The short of it was that as soon as I reached Grimauld place I would not be allowed to leave until it was time to go back to Hogwarts. I couldn't go out and be Hermione, because I was supposed to be dead. And I couldn't go out as Sophia, in case someone connected me to the Order.

When Tonks arrived to escort me to Azkaban, she was in full on Auror mode, it was if a Dementor had gotten to her, Dora was gone and the hollow shell of Nymphadora Tonks was all that was left. She was all official about it presenting her papers to Dumbledore before walking me down to the road towards the gates so that we could apparate safely. I was understandably nervous; I mean I was going to meet my mother for the first time (almost). I had no idea what I was going to say, and what my mum was going to say. I mean the portrait was friendly enough, but the real woman had spent the last fourteen years in the worst hell on earth. I had met one dementor up close, and I nearly fainted, but she had been around them daily for all that time. To be completely honest I was afraid of what I'd find in that cell.

After we landed we took a little boat across to the actual island of Azkaban. The towering black obelisk that was the prison was intimidating enough without the dementors. Only once we actually entered the prison did Tonks speak.

"Auror Nymphadora Tonks, escorting a visitor for the eighth floor. Authorisation code Phoenix 684-524-394" She said in a very hard tone. The guard on the desk was easily in his late fifties but he simply nodded and handed her two badges and a set of keys with a big number eight on them. Tonks clipped the now glowing badges onto both of our robes. "It's so the dementors know we're not dinner." She clarified as we began walking.

Surprisingly there was a lift. When we entered the lift, Tonks put the first key into the slot, presumably to bring us up to the appropriate level. However when we reached the correct one, the doors opened to be flanked by two dementors, with a guard sitting at a desk about five feet away. Tonks didn't even take a second glance at the dementors and strode confidently up to the guard. "Visitor for prisoner AZKGBM093, Bellatrix Lestrange. Supervising Auror, Nymphadora Tonks Auror 1st class, Ministry Precinct." Recited Tonks as she handed over the paperwork.

"Alright everything is in order." Replied the guard, handing Tonks back her documents. "Cell number 839493 down on the right, although I don't know why anyone would want to visit that bitch."

I simply scowled at him and said "That 'Bitch' happens to be my mother!" before I followed Tonks down the right-hand hallway.

When we got to the door Tonks pulled me aside. "Sophia, just a word of warning, it might be wiser to not tell ministry employees outside the order who your parents are." I nodded and she turned towards the door. "Prisoner, I am a Ministry Auror. I am about to open your cell door, please stand back against the far wall; any attempt to escape will be met with extreme force." Said Tonks in her Auror voice. Through the door there was a muffled cackling.

As Tonks sung the door open it was quite clear that Bellatrix was in no condition to move anywhere, never mind the far wall. Aside from her emaciated state from being in Azkaban for so long. She was also chained to the floor, the heavy metal chains preventing her from standing, when at her full strength, even less so now. "Prisoner, you have a visitor. Please refrain from too much contact and again any attempt at escape will be met with extreme force."

Bellatrix looked up, clearly surprised that she had a visitor, as she had no access to her Black Family Mirror in her chains. But she clearly recognised Tonks' resemblance to her parents. "Now is that anyway to talk to family Nymphadora, your mother would…" She began, but she stopped suddenly when she saw just who her visitor was. There was a tense silence, before Bellatrix started to cry. "So…Sophia?" she asked through the tears.

I nodded and stepped into the cell. "You have ten minutes." Said Tonks before she closed the door.

"Is it really you?" whispered mum. I nodded and she broke down, the chains clanking as she fell closer to the floor. I rushed to her and wrapped my arms around her .

"It's okay. Shuush, it's okay. Look I know who my dad is and I went to Dumbledore. When dad comes to get you I'll be coming to spy with you and Severus." I said trying to stop myself from crying as well.

"Oh I'm so happy that you're all right. When I gave you to the Grangers I didn't know if it was enough to hide you. What age are you now, did Richard and Jean treat you alright? What house are you in at Hogwarts? Oh I know so little about my own daughter."

I explained to her about how I grew up at the Granger s, and my experiences as a Gryffindor. She simply sat there and listened as I described the first four years of school. Then I told her about learning about her being my mother and Sirius's reaction. She seemed sad that I had chosen to be the spy in Slytherin, but otherwise she seemed happy with how I had grown up. I deliberately left my relationship with Daphne out though, not knowing how she would react.

After that Tonks opened the door to tell me my time was up. "I am so proud of you Sophia, don't ever forget that. I'll see you soon. I love you." Said Mum as I stepped over the threshold.

"I know Mum, see you soon." I said as Tonks closed the door. As she was locking up I noticed that the door next to mum's was wide open. All the other door on the floor I'd seen were shut. "Tonks, why is that cell open when all the others are closed?" I asked curiously.

Tonks' expression darkened as she looked at the cell I was pointing at. "That cell belongs to Sirius Black, one of the two known people to have escaped Azkaban and the only one to do so without outside assistance. The door is being kept open until Black is killed or recaptured." She said, back into her official tone again. She finished the locking up in silence, before walking back to the guard post, me scurrying after her.

When we got back to the mainland Tonks got a bit of her spirit back, but I was rapidly losing mine, I knew what the next stop on this trip was and I was dreading it just as much as I had been dreading seeing Bellatrix in that cell…

We were going to the Grangers.

A/N: Hi all, I've been really busy with college recently so I haven't had the chance to get much writing done. As always PLEASE REVIEW as that lets me know what I can improve on for future chapters or if there are any glaring typos I've missed so I can fix them (for example in some of the earlier chapters I kept copying the title as 'The Only Teat Herm….')

Also I know this chapter is about 2000 words short of where is should be, but I just feel that I'll NEED an entire chapter for the confrontation at the Grangers.

Until Next Time
