Shadow

Vio's hand slipped into mine as we climbed the stairs to his brother's flat. It was the first time in years that Vio had visited his mums grave, so this year, on this day, the anniversary, that we climb the stairs to see his brother before the four of us head to the cemetery to place flowers on her grave and pay our respects.

We had a letter through the post informing us that vios father was appealing his case, claiming he was mentally unstable with depression and anger issues at the time of the murder. The letter stated that he does not know the where abouts of Blue or Vio, or where their mother was burried. This was to prevent them coming into contact with him, unless they wished to.

It was only when we reached the flat that I realised Vio was talking to me about some book that he had just read.

"Mmmm, really babe?" Was the only response I could come up with, since I wasn't listening. He didn't have chance to complain before the door opened and Red's face beamed at us through the door way.

"Vio! Shadow! Blue is still in the shower, I've told him to hurry u-" Red didn't finish before Blue walked out fully dressed and his gingery-blond hair perfectly in place. The huge love bite from out previous visit had faded to a yellowy colour, easily mistaken for a bruise.

Red's arms slipped around his lovers waist as he embraced him.

"Wewere just talking about you!" He chirped.

"I heard!" Blue replied "what time are we leaving?"

Vio's face turned thoughtful for a second.

"Well, the table is booked for 6. So, we should leave for about 2:30, 3, to be there for within an hour to spare. I thought we could visit the grave and have a small walk around the town first."

Vio's mum was buried in the town where her parents lived and they were the ones that sorted out her funeral. Vio and Blue visited them frequently whilst in foster care before they died 3 years later. They weren't that close to them and didn't really enjoy their visits, but they didn't have a choice in it.

The journeydidn't last long, Red kept everyone smiling by singing along to the music and chatting excitedly to everyone. We made it to the cemetery quicker than expected.

We wandered around the town for a while and Red brought some sweets and a, in his words not mine, cute teddy bear. Then we had our meal where everyone talked animatedly to each other. We could almost forget the reason why we were here. Almost!

Blue excused himself from the meal to use the toilet, he took so long Red almost went to go find him. When he did return his eyes were red and puffy. No on said anything, nor did they question him because we all knew why he'd been crying and no on could blame him!
