"Damn you Tetsu." Aomine whispered as he sighed heavily. He laughed at the irony of how his body only slightly ached due to the serious one-on-one matches with Kagami that had just occurred and how his heart felt strained, tired and ready to erupt at anytime. It stung like hell and he didn't have a choice but to keep his act intact. He mused that the only thing he had left was his pride, at least that's his consolation prize.
After months of running round and round with his feelings hanging on his sleeves right outside a dense big circle called Kagami, the act still proved to be a futile attempt to win him over from the emotionless shadow. When Kagami and Kuroko shared an innocent sweet kiss when they thought he wasn't looking he knew it was finally game over. He couldn't take this anymore; he finally admitted defeat to his former shadow.
It was stupid to think he had a strand of chance when with Kagami, it was always about Kuroko.
It was a crushing defeat for his side. He never did have a chance of succeeding he thought bitterly as he watched the retreating figures of Kagami and Kuroko disappear in the crowd. Kuroko knew about his feelings though, Aomine swore Kuroko knew and he said nothing, thank god he didn't.
He wondered how Kagami would react if he knew, or how it was that he didn't know. 'Maybe he will…but no way' He often imagined how life would be like. How Kagami's face would change. How everything would change for them. Suddenly Aomine wished he knew and then a few seconds later the image of a teal haired boy standing beside Kagami would appear and he'll be slapped with the reality that Kuroko was there, and then he thanked the gods that Kagami didn't know after all.
Kuroko's existence didn't even let him dream.
This was depressing he thought as he roughly kicked the basketball near his feet, anger starting to boil at the pits of his stomach. He wished winning Kagami was as easy as winning a basketball game.
Kuroko wouldn't even stand a chance.
If this was a one on one basketball match with Kuroko he would have won, no, he would have crushed Kuroko, brutally. He would have won even if he had a sprained ankle, or two sprained ankles. Hell, he'd even win if one of his eyes was gauged out. He would even be as proud as to say he'd win with two sprained ankles, only one eye and a hand cut off. He would have won.
Aomine would have won on a one-on-one with Kuroko. But he wasn't playing with anyone.
This game was not a basketball game; basketball games needed at least two people for a fair one-on -one game. This was anything but a basketball game; this was a game he lost even before he started because there was never an opponent to begin with.
Kuroko got to Kagami's heart even before he had the chance to compete.
There was no way he could have one. There is no way he'd win is no prize in this game but defeat.
Aomine chuckles as he felt his vision suddenly get blurry and his cheeks felt cold and wet. He roughly ran his knuckles to his tearing eyelids. He tried to stop the tears from falling further but it was too late. "Now when did I start acting like a crying pussy?" His voice broke with a tone of sad amusement. "The only one who can make me cry is me, Bakagami."
Now Aomine just wished this wasn't such a cold game.
