A/N: I'm so, so sorry! I don't even know what happened! I just got into so many other different fandoms, and The Vampire Diaries kind of escaped my mind for a little while. This chapter... I've had it written out for a while. I was originally planning to add more, but I just want to get something out for you to read as soon as possible for the wait. So, this chapter is pretty short, but I hope its worth the wait!
Disclaimer: I don't own the Vampire Diaries, blah, blah, blah.

The next morning, Summer is rudely awoken by the shrill beeping noise of her alarm clock, which is phenomenally more annoying to her now that her hearing is enhanced. Osirus' irritated screeching is the motivator that makes her turn off her alarm and rise from her bed. She groans slightly as she stretches and exits her room, going into the bathroom to get ready for her first day of her senior year. After Summer showers, she blow dries her hair and leaves it in its loose waves that hang to the middle of her back. She puts on a bit of makeup before getting dressed, and heading downstairs with Osirus loyally perched on her shoulder. When she gets into the kitchen, she smiles at the sight of the usual first day of school breakfast that she'd missed out on last year while in Jacksonville. Her first surprise of the day, however, is when she sees Matt sitting at her dining room table, with a plate full of food.
"Matt?" Summer asks, making Matt look up at her, and his eyes immediately go to Osirus. He stares at the bird, astonished. "I should really just set up a meet and greet for him and all you guys," Summer says, amused.
"That is the biggest bird I've ever seen," Matt comments after a few moments of stunned silence. Summer takes a few minutes to explain Osirus to Matt, and afterward, Osirus is perched on the back of Matt's chair, trilling happily while Matt feeds him bacon off of his plate.
"So, I didn't expect you here," Summer says.
"I invited him," Allison says, walking into the room with another plate of bacon. "He was here for first day breakfast last year, too since I didn't have anyone to cook for," she says, giving Summer a playful look.
"Well, excuse me," Summer says, laughing lightly. "Will you be here when I get home from school?" she asks, curiously.
"Yep. I got the day off, so I'll be here all day. And you'll be gone so you," Allison starts, pointing at Osirus, "will stay quiet. No fighting with Lucky, or flying around the house screaming as loud as you can," she says firmly, and Summer swears that the bird looks slightly abashed.
"That might've just been because of all the drama last night. He knows when I'm in trouble," Summer says before looking at her mom, "kind of like you usually do. It's weird mom."
"Hey. Mom's are supposed to know when their babies are in trouble," Allison says, pointing at Summer seriously, and the atmosphere becomes more humored when Matt lets out a particularly loud belch that has Summer chuckling lightly, and Allison scolding Matt for poor table manners. After breakfast, Allison shoos Matt and Summer out the door. After one last pet on Osirus' and Lucky's heads, Summer follows Matt out the door, and into his truck when he offers to give her a ride.
When they arrive at school, Summer and Matt go their separate ways, and Summer meets up with Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie in front of the school.
"Here we are. Our senior year," Caroline says, staring at the school.
"Anyone else think it should feel slightly more empowering?" Bonnie asks, and Summer raises her eyebrows as they look at the school.
"Okay. So prank night was a bust. But we are accepting it, and we are moving on," Caroline says, firmly.
"You're right. I mean, why should I let the fact that my boyfriend is seeing the ghost of his dead girlfriends hinder this experience?" Bonnie asks, sarcastically.
"Yes! And why should I let the fact that my boyfriend was turned into a hybrid put a damper on an otherwise fabulous day?" Caroline asks, adding on her own problem.
"Today's our anniversary. Technically, Stefan and I met on the first day of school last year," Elena says, sadly.
"The guy I love is lying in a box with a dagger in his heart and I don't know when I'm gonna see him again," Summer tacks on.
"It's hard to tell which one of you won. I call it a tie," Caroline says, frowning thoughtfully.
"Are you sure you wanna be here?" Bonnie asks, frowning at the two girls.
"I have to be here. I have to put it behind me. New year. New life," Elena says, walking up the steps and into the school. Summer looks at the other two before shrugging and following the brunette into the school.

The next few days are filled with school, ghosts, a surprising murder and many questions from Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline to Summer about the Originals. Questions that she finds difficult to answer due to her loyalty to Elijah's family. When Stefan steals the coffins that hold Elijah, Finn, Kol, and the mystery person in the 4th coffin, Summer is furious. She becomes even more angered when she discovers that Bonnie, Elena, and Damon all know the location but won't tell her, causing her to isolate herself at home, or in Klaus' new home plotting ways to get the coffins back. After she discovers that Klaus attempted to kill Jeremy to send a message, she begins to avoid him as well.
In the late afternoon on a cooler Saturday, she finds herself on her laptop in the kitchen with Osirus perched on the back of her chair, snoozing, and Lucky lies loyally on the floor next to her. She frowns slightly when Osirus lets out a low, barely audible warning sound, and Lucky begins to softly growl beside her. Her frown disappears when she suddenly senses someone in the kitchen with her, and her eyes narrow at the familiar scent.
"Get out, Damon," she grumbles, going back to the essay for English class on her laptop.
"You're doing homework on a Saturday? Nerd," he says, peeking at the essay over her shoulder, and she sighs in annoyance, deciding to ignore him. She finds that despite her anger, the thought of harming Damon, her best friend in the 1800's, makes her feel physically ill. "I know you're mad," he says, and Summer rudely scoffs a laugh of disbelief. Damon ignores this. "But I have something that'll for sure make you love me."
"Are you gonna tell me where the coffins are?" she asks, looking at him over her shoulder.
"No," he says, and she looks back at her computer screen. "Not all of them at least."
"No, please continue to speak in riddles," she says, shutting her laptop. "That essay isn't due on Monday or anything."
"Good, as long as you're free," Damon says, smirking at her. "Come with me. Actually," he says, looking her over, "put on something a little nicer."
"Why?" she asks with a frown.
"Just do it," he says, rolling his eyes. When she doesn't move, he heaves a heavy sigh before turning from her and heading toward the stairs.
"What are you doing?" she asks, and begins to follow him when he starts up the stairs. "Damon? Damon! Stay out of my bedroom!" she shouts, only to be ignored. When Damon enters her bedroom, he opens her closet door and begins looking through her selection.
"Put this on, and lets go," he says handing her a dress, and leaving the room, shutting the door behind him. She looks at the dress, and contemplates putting it back in the closet and laying down on her bed just to spite Damon. "And if you're not out in five minutes I'll come back in and drag you out."
"Jerk," she mutters as she changes into the dress. She pairs the dress with tights and a pair of boots. She grabs a jacket from the closet to finish off the outfit and exits her bedroom. "Happy?"
"Very," he says with his signature smirk. The two of them make their way out of her house, and Summer frowns when Damon heads in the direction of her garage.
"You made me put on a dress to take me to my garage?" she asks, her tone full of disbelief.
"Yep," he says, pulling a garage door opener out of his jacket pocket.
"And you broke into my car. That's great," she says, shaking her head and crossing her arms. When the garage door is completely open, Summer's arms drop and she straightens significantly when she sees a lone coffin sitting in the middle of the semi empty garage. She looks at Damon and he shrugs slightly.
"Peace offering," he says simply. Summer quickly makes her way to the coffin and lifts the lid. She smiles slightly when she sees Elijah lying inside, his gray, desiccated face frozen in a peaceful slumber. No time is wasted, and the dagger is pulled out of Elijah's chest before Damon can blink.
"Will you help me take him to my room?" Summer asks, sticking the dagger in her jacket pocket. Damon answers by moving farther into the garage and lifting Elijah's legs while Summer lifts underneath his arms. They easily place Elijah on Summer's bed when they get him into her room. Summer immediately takes a seat on the bed next to his body, and Damon quietly makes to exit the room. "Damon?" Summer calls, and he looks over his shoulder at her. "Thank you," she says, with a genuine smile. Damon gives her a small half smile in return before leaving the house completely. Summer looks back at Elijah's body before taking off her jacket and boots. She looks at the door when she hears Lucky softly whine. She grins and pats the bed, inviting him on which he excepts with a happily wagging tail. Summer climbs back onto the bed, this time lying down next to Elijah with her head on his chest. She shuts her eyes, letting out a sigh of semi contentment and slowly drifts to sleep.
When Summer wakes, the first thing she notices is fingers slowly combing through her silver-blonde hair. When her mind finally clears, and she registers what's happening, a slow smile appears on her face.
"I missed waking up like this," she says quietly, wrapping her arm tighter around Elijah's torso. She looks up at him and finds him looking at her with a soft, content smile on his face. "I missed you," she whispers.
"I never stopped missing you, my love," he whispers in return, and she leans up farther, gently pressing her lips to his. Unlike the last kiss they shared that night in the woods, this kiss is sweet and tender. A kiss so full of more than a millennium of love so strong that no two other people could ever dream of experiencing.
The next few hours are spent full of love and passion, the two of them showing each other just how much they desperately missed the other.
"I assume Klaus has no knowledge of you removing the dagger from my chest?" Elijah asks as he pulls on a clean white button up shirt from his things that still remained in Summer's house from his stay there.
"Nope," Summer says as she watches herself brush her clean, wet hair in her vanity mirror. "I was thinking it could be a little bit of a surprise for him," she says, and Elijah turns from the mirror on the back of her door to smirk at her.
"I've always adored the way you think," he says as he walks over and grips the back of her chair before leaning down and laying a few kisses to the side of her exposed neck.
"We have Damon to thank for all of this though," Summer says as she stands and wraps her arms around his neck. Elijah merely hums curiously as he places his hands on her robe covered waist and looks down at her. "He's the one that brought you here. Which reminds me," she says suddenly, remembering the dagger in her jacket pocket. She pulls away from Elijah, much to his displeasure, and picks up her jacket from the floor where she left it. She reaches into the pocket, only to find it empty, making her frown and check the other, finding this one empty as well. She looks at the area on the floor where her jacket was, before looking at Elijah. "Did you take it back?"
"I don't understand," Elijah says, lifting an eyebrow in confusion.
"The dagger. I put it in my jacket pocket after I took it out of you," Summer says, tossing her jacket on the bed.
"I didn't take it. But I have a pretty good idea of who did," he says darkly, and Summer has the same idea.
"There's always an ulterior motive," she says to herself.
"Much like somebody else we know," Elijah says as he moves to stand in front of her and he places his hand on her face. He smiles slightly as she grabs his wrist and leans into his touch. "I have to go," he says and she looks into his eyes with a small smile of her own.
"I know," she says, and kisses the palm of his hand gently.
"I'll come back after I talk with Klaus. I don't know if I can bear to go a whole night without you again," he says before leaning down and kissing her lips softly. She grins at him before reaching up and straightening his tie for him.
"I'll be waiting," she says softly to him, and in seconds he disappears from her bedroom.
