Weaving a Song
One Song at a Time
"Twin Trouble"
c.2060 TA- Imladris
As they were to be travelling the next day, Legolas had planned on resting before they departed for Lórien, but he soon found it was not to be. Almiel was not as innocent as she seemed either, because she dropped him outside and into the sunshine where she began chasing the birds and then decided both she and the birds would chase Legolas.
Haldir was watching vaguely amused until the Twins appeared and decided to make matters entirely worse and began chasing Almiel who was still chasing Legolas who now decided he would make Haldir suffer and chase him as well. Almiel squealed delighted at the change of events while the two in the front of the line did not seem as amused.
That is, until Haldir decided he would take on everyone else and chase the Twins so that they were now forming oblong shapes as they went and going in circles. The chase ended when Legolas was about to tackle Haldir who was only just saved by the appearance of Glorfindel, who, as it was, had no idea what he was walking into.
Instead, the Balrog Slayer took the heat of the blow meant for Haldir as Legolas ran into him full on and tackled him to the ground, before three other bodies piled on top of his. Legolas heard Haldir laughing as he glanced down and sheepishly realised it was not actually Haldir. The actual Haldir had fallen to the ground as well, but it was because he was laughing too hard. "If you don't mind getting off," Glorfindel muttered beneath the pile.
"Er, well, you'll have to talk to Elrond's sons about that as I cannot move either," Legolas said laughing. Almiel was giggling and shaking on top of him because he was almost positive one or both of the Twins had decided to tickle her whilst on top of the pile.
"Elladan!" Glorfindel yelled.
"Oops," Elladan said as he realised who was on the bottom of the pile as well, but he made no move to get up. Legolas heard more laughter from above him and saw Haldir scurry out of the way. He groaned and felt Almiel roll off the pile. "If you hurt her-!" Legolas started.
"Relax," Elrohir said, who was now on top of him. "There's nothing to worry about. She wanted to get off. She's now frolicking about the clearing."
"And you won't let us up?" Legolas asked and Glorfindel murmured his assent.
"No, that would be far too much fun. There's only a few people who can catch such high elves from noble blood lines, and apparently your sister is one of them."
"You are supposed to be grown," Glorfindel hissed at them.
"Legolas, the Crown Prince, was the one who tackled you."
"It was a mistake," Legolas said sandwiched between the two, "I meant to tackle Haldir."
"That's probably why Haldir ran for it," Elrohir said.
"I would," Elladan said from above him. "Although I quite like my position at the moment."
"None of the rest of us do," Glorfindel said. "And you'll never hear the end of this one. Thranduil might just kill you for teaching his daughter such things."
"He's been the one teaching her," Legolas said sighing as he did.
"Great," Glorfindel said. "Can we use your sister against them?"
"No, I am sorely outdone," Legolas said.
"Shame," Glorfindel said.
"It really is. At least we are usually on the same side," Elrohir said to Elladan.
Elladan laughed. "Then you would be on top with me."
There was a scuffle during which Legolas got kicked in the back and made a lunge for it, barely breaking out of the pile and watching the Twins collapse on Glorfindel who moaned. "You weren't quick enough," Legolas said sadly. Glorfindel eyed him angrily as he did.
"You didn't let me out," he said.
"And now we won't either," Elrohir said who was now on top.
Elladan was looking less than pleased. "I can't say that this is much fun after all."
"I thought we were in this together after all," Elrohir said.
Legolas grinned and grabbed Almiel who squealed as he put her on top. She laughed and bounced on top of the other three. The Twins both groaned now and Glorfindel was eyeing Legolas murderously. "Aren't you a Balrog Slayer or something?" Elladan asked. "You surely could amend such a serious situation?"
"Not laughing now?" Glorfindel asked him and Elladan winced as Elrohir's elbow dug into his back rather unintentionally as Almiel bounced again.
"Not really," Elladan said.
Legolas was laughing. "This isn't funny," Elladan said to him. Legolas thought it was very funny.
"This is great. Particularly since you never had a younger sibling to crash down on you like Haldir and I had."
Glorfindel was close to snapping. "Will you let me up?"
"If you ask nicely," Legolas said grinning.
"That was asking nicely," Elladan said. "Most of the time he just yells at us."
"I wonder why?" Haldir asked from the edge of the clearing, staying far away from the ensuing chaos.
"I'm not sure," Legolas admitted. "Still, I suppose if that is the nice way of asking-." He glanced at his sister. "Come Almiel, we will run from them together." Almiel smiled.
"Now?"
"Yes."
Almiel sprang off Elrohir who grunted and into Legolas' arms whereon he dashed out of the clearing and into the forest, far away from the disgruntled ellyn on the ground. Haldir, too, vanished like smoke as the three crawled away from each other and stood, looking for the others.
"Let's get them!" Elladan said and he and Elrohir charged into the forest. Glorfindel rolled his shoulder and eyed the forest annoyed, knowing the trees would cede to helping the wood-elves instead of the Twins or him for that matter. So he sighed, giving up, and walked back into the house.
The Twins, meanwhile, had split up and made a good effort to try to find the missing wood-elves. However, the trees were most stubborn and refused to reveal their hiding places. "Legolas! Haldir!" Elladan called.
"Yes?" Legolas asked from above him, hanging from the branch by his knees so that he was watching Elladan upside down.
"Elrohir!" When his brother didn't answer he eyed Legolas suspiciously. "What have you done?"
"Well your brother is currently being held captive by my sister and her newfound friend, and I am here." Legolas said.
"Will you help me? We could take them down together?"
"I thought you were in this with your brother?"
"No!"
"He'd be disappointed to hear that, as he is currently disabled. Good luck!" Legolas cried happily and then swung up and leapt into the branches of the next tree over. Elladan hissed and tried to climb after him but the branches were suddenly all out of his reach.
"You little cheater!" Elladan yelled.
"Who's a cheater?" Legolas asked.
"The trees are helping you!"
"Well I am a prince of Greenwood," Legolas said. "This is not cheating. It's taking advantage of my strengths. Now, you can go find your brother and attempt to rescue him, or you can be led on a merry goose hunt, your choice!" He then sprang away into the trees.
Elladan considered it and then ran after his brother, connecting deeper with him to locate him exactly. No, Elladan, don't-!
It was too late. Elladan was flung over the tree root that had suddenly sprang up to trip him. He landed hard on the ground with an, "Oof!" He was dizzy for a second but when he came to he found Legolas leaning over him grinning.
"That looked painful," he said.
"I'm going to kill you," Elladan muttered.
Legolas laughed. "If it is any consolation, it was my sister's idea."
"That hardly makes me feel better." Elladan said as he rubbed his back. Almiel was grinning up in the tree above him.
"It worked!" she said. Haldir laughed. Elladan blinked again to see Elrohir unceremoniously tied to the tree trunk in the middle of the tree, looking extremely disappointed that Elladan had fallen for the trick.
You idiot, Elrohir said.
You are the one tied to a tree currently, Elladan said.
Fair point.
"You may release your brother if you so wish," Legolas said climbing into the tree and sitting on the opposite branch. Elladan climbed up, feeling rather sore, and released Elrohir from his bonds. The Twins gruffly complained about it for a while but as night fell the five of them began talking and laughing and occasionally throwing missiles at each other.
The five of them were in the middle of a rousing battle of pinecones as the sun fell when Almiel suddenly stopped them. "Shh! Someone's coming," she said. They all grew silent as the shadows grew around them and they became silent. Elrond and Glorfindel were walking their way, speaking quietly. Legolas and the Twins looked at each other grinning and Haldir shook his head pleadingly. The other three ignored him and he merely grabbed Almiel to keep her from following suit.
Legolas crouched poised right above where Glorfindel would walk while the Twins positioned themselves above their father. They waited until just the right moment and then jumped, or in Elladan's case dived, for the unsuspecting ellyn. Elrond had just glanced up when the three younger elves crashed on top of the two lords and Glorfindel was stuck at the bottom of the pile once again.
"I will tell your mother," Elrond muttered into the ground.
"She will congratulate us," Elladan said. "She always said you deserved sons that would keep you on your toes."
"I don't think this is what she meant," Elrond said.
"This is all your fault," Glorfindel said to him. "You should have counted on Legolas stirring them up."
"Yes, blame the prince. This is good," Elrohir said. "For us. I was tied to the tree, I had no part in planning this."
"You were untied five hours ago," Legolas said.
"That's beside the point," Elrohir said.
"Get off!" Elrond said.
"Very well, if we must," Elladan said but stayed where he was.
"This is not as unplanned as before," Glorfindel said to Legolas.
"Alas, tis not. Haldir practically took my sister and ran when he heard what we were planning on doing," Legolas said sighing.
"I would thus appreciate you moving before I try to kill you," Glorfindel said, "As this would be quite a diplomatic mess."
Legolas grinned, "Good luck!"
The three of them then bounded together into the trees and took off. Elrond and Glorfindel stood. "They're yours." Glorfindel pointed out.
"I try to forget," Elrond said sighing. "But we may as well amuse them." Then he took off on the ground after his children.
"They're all children," Glorfindel said to himself as he watched them take off. Then he sighed. "What the heck," and chased after them.
