Wow.

Elena walked into the room with amazement. Caroline really out did herself tonight. Prom was every high school girl's dream and this place definitely let them live out their once in a life time fairytale. Of course, every girl would wish for a knight in shining armor, luckily she had two.

The Salvatore brothers; coming to her rescue, standing over by the dance floor whispering theories on how to get her to flip the switch back, how to care again, how to change her mind about the cure. Little did they know, she was listening to them from across the room. It was almost pathetic about how much thought they put into this plan of theirs. She'd just have to kill everyone in Mystic Falls to teach them a lesson on how to back off.

Of course, she'd need a partner in crime. Rebekah, perhaps?

Elena scanned the room until her eyes met with the person she'd least expected. Looking dapper in a tux, he swayed over to her in the most polite manner. Elijah gently kissed the back of her hand with the lips that had touched hers just about a week ago.

"Care to dance?"

"It'd be my pleasure."

He guided her to dance floor, his hand on the small of her back. They faced each other, trying to hide the smiles that crept up on their faces. Elena put her arms on his shoulders as his stayed on her lower back. They moved slightly back and forth, letting the music guide them throughout the dance floor.

"You knew." Elena stated, her eyes on him with a knowing look.

"Specificity is key, Elena. What exactly are you implying?"

"You knew it was me. Before you kissed me."

"And why would you imply such a thing?"

"Love may have blinded you for a few centuries but you're not stupid, Elijah. Just admit it."

"Admit what?"

"You wanted to kiss me."

"Someone clearly thinks high of herself."

"Oh yeah?"

"Most definitely. And for the record, I think you enjoyed it too."

"Well, you're certainly confident of yourself."

"What is there not to be confident about?"

"Not much."

"Is that a compliment?"

"It's whatever you want it to be."

The Salvatore brothers looked towards the dance floor, concentrated on the two brunettes who were intensely concentrated on each other. The music changed to an upbeat rhythm and they watched as Elijah spun Elena around as Elena giggled with him. Elijah certainly knew what he was doing on the dance floor, but why the hell was he doing with Elena? Damon rushed towards them, with a purpose.

"Looks like you two are having fun. A hotel room is the next step, you know."

"Jealousy doesn't suit you, Damon."

"Who said I was jealous, Elena? Just giving a friendly tip."

Elena turned her back on Damon and smiled at Elijah.

"Elijah, would you care for a drink? Somewhere without unnecessary interruptions?"

"It'd be my pleasure."

Elena crossed her arm with Elijah's as they walked outside, completely ignoring Damon's disapproval. The cool night air made her shiver. Elijah being his gentlemen self, wrapped his jacket around her shoulders. Handing her a drink, he cleared his throat.

"He loves you. Much more than anyone ever will."

"I don't feel anything for him anymore. I don't feel anything for anyone."

"The girl who cared too much, now cares too little."

"Caring only gets you hurt. And I'd rather not care than feel that way again."

"Ah, you have so much to learn, Elena. Your youth is endearing."

"And what can you teach me, Elijah?"

Elena faced him with challenging eyes. His thumb caressed her cheek and he sighed deeply.

"I can teach you so many things, Elena. But only if you are willing to be taught."
