A/N: Just a quick note to say that the characters in this short story are purely the characters, and reflect nothing on the people who play them.
Owls Are Friends
Lomadia stared up at her Owl Sanctuary, pride coursing through her. It was finally done, after all the hard work, sweat, and in Nilesy's case, tears. The owls were hooting happily as the sun started its descent behind the tall trees, vines casting mystical shadows across the foliage. Lights occasionally flashed among the leaves, signalling where the automatic farms were working to keep up with Nilesy's outrageous eating habits.
"Lomadia!" Nilesy's distressed Scottish accent called suddenly from behind her. She spun around on the spot, sword almost literally falling to hand. If he had trapped himself in a vital corner with a creeper again, it didn't matter how much he needed to work on his own business. He would be rebuilding any broken materials from scratch. Without a condenser.
The Scottish man was frozen in fright by the edge of the water, a small grey owl perched in his messy black hair. The little bird hooted cheerily, tilting its head to the side at the owl lover.
Lomadia watched them in a surprised silence for a few moments, before breaking into uncontrollable laughter "It looks like you have a new friend" she managed to say in between laughs, watching in amusement as the look of horror grew on his face.
"That's wonderful. Can you get him off my head now?" The horror disappeared momentarily to be replaced by annoyance. Of course, it didn't last long. The little owl started pecking at his hair, causing his eyes to look so much like the owl on his head, that they sent Lomadia into another fit of laughter.
When she finally managed to pull herself together again and look at her business partner without laughing, she stepped over to him and attempted to lift the little owl off his head. The owl shrieked in dismay, flying away long enough to swoop back down and land instead on Nilesy's shoulder, giving her a rebellious look.
"Lomadia!" The Scotsman cried out again, staring in fright at the little owl perched on his shoulder.
"It seems he really likes you" Hannah stated "Why don't you just give him a name and keep him?" She suggested, reaching out petting the little owl while she spoke. It hooted happily, rubbing its head against Nilesy's cheek.
If anything, Nilesy's eyes grew wider at her suggestion "I can't keep him! I live underground! No trees" he spluttered out in fear, earning him a friendly head butt from the owl "Although he is very cute" he admitted shakily, eyeing the grey ball of feathers warily.
"He doesn't have to stay with you. We can make him his own little house up by my tree house" Hannah reasoned, watching Nilesy as he subconsciously started petting the owl's grey feathers, lost deeply in thought.
The thoughtful silence stretched on across the beach while he thought, allowing for the soft sound of the waves hitting the shore to slowly release the tension from his tensed up shoulders "Okay" he agreed finally, grinning widely "I'll call him Nilesy Junior!"
The owl screeched in dismay, nipped Nilesy's ear, and flew off, hooting loudly as it disappeared into the trees.
Lomadia fell to the sandy floor laughing, while Nilesy stared after the owl in shock, hand cupped to his throbbing ear "Remind me never to get a pet ever again" he stated weakly, plopping moodily into the sand next to her.
A/N: Well then! My first story after I got rid of every story I previously had! I hope you guys liked it, because I loved writing it! Anywho, I'd appreciate any feedback on how I did, since my goal is to improve my abilities!
Also, I realise it is quite short, but I'm working on that!
Oh, one more thing before I sign off; if anybody who is artistic happens to read this and like it, I would love if you could make me a cover for the story!
Thank you for reading!
