Wednesday
L's voice met her ear.
"You can come in now,"
Placing her hand on the door handle, Kagome took a deep breath, then opened the door, all eyes...on her.
"Kagome?!"
Kagome closed her eyes, not wanting to see the looks that she was no doubt receiving. She had already seen the layout upon entering the room, so making her way towards L with her eyes still closed wasn't something she found to be a difficult feat. Once she felt his hand on her forearm, she opened her eyes and cobalt blue met his charcoal gray.
"Miss. Matsuda has been kind enough to lend me her eyes and ears whilst outside. Doing small tasks for me every now-and-then."
Kagome looked to Mr. Yagami who was still staring at her in an unbelieving manner. "Mr. Yagami, I'm sorry that you had to find out about this...like this...but I wasn't about to tell anyone that I was working for L. I wasn't going to betray him for anybody."
L stared curiously at Kagome, but contentedly he let her continue speaking.
"What about Touta. He's your own brother!"
"Well..." Kagome smiled sheepishly as she looked at her brother who was fiddling with his tie.
"..." Touta looked at his boss who was now looking at him with a look of complete shock.
"You knew?"
"I kind of found out...sort of...when she showed up at the meeting that day. L said she was working for him. That took me by surprise. Honestly, I had considered saying something to you, but instead, I chose to give my sister the benefit of the doubt. As well, I didn't really know what was going on...and I didn't want to get her in trouble with L by saying something that could cause her and him problems. The details came later..."
"What details?" Aizawa asked with a frown.
Kagome glanced to L who nodded, "L had called Matsuda in to explain the details of my position. This was to insure a multitude of things. Some that even my brother might not have been aware of." She watched Touta glance up curiously at her before continuing. "He made sure Touta could be trusted, obviously, and that he could retain any and all information concerning my association with L, as well as anything regarding L himself. Then...L insured that I could be trusted as well, through this meeting, and many others. The fact that I hadn't told my own brother who was also working to capture KIRA, that I was assisting L, the greatest detective in the world, told him that I could be trusted...to keep quiet. Trusting me completely...was something that would come in time...still to come."
L stood looking down at his feet, both bare, he moved his toes in the carpet a bit before motioning towards the couches behind him. "Let us sit down."
Kagome chose a spot on the white couch where she and L normally sat when going over information on the Kira case. L hopped up onto the couch beside her, crouching in his normal sitting position and bringing his thumb to his lips as he watched Kagome make a donut kabob. His eyes lit up when she held it out for him.
"Donut Kabob?" He asked the officers in front of him.
"No thanks."
Kagome sat quietly and listened as L briefed them on where he and she currently stood in the investigation. She was pouring a cup of hot tea, adding countless cubes of sugar as she did, she lost count until Matsuda's hand caught hers. She jumped and looked to the cup, smiling, she sighed and moved it away from her and placed it in front of L whose eyes lit up excitedly.
"You're going to become a diabetic if you keep eating like that," Kagome muttered under her breath, but wasn't surprised when he rolled his eyes.
"I can't think properly unless I have a larger than normal intake of sugar."
"That's just an excuse."
L looked at her before nodding, "indeed it is...on a completely unrelated topic, I would like to ask that you all call me Ryuzaki, from here on out...just to be safe."
Matsuda looked around at the members of the Task Force before sighing, "I have been thinking about this for a while, but if we were to censor the news, keep the names of criminals and convicts off the TV and paper propaganda..."
Kagome watched as L listened and took a sip of his sugar. "We would endanger those who are mere civilians. They will be caught in crossfire. If KIRA is who we think it is, than as childish as it may seem, he will pout and throw a fit, in that..."
"He will start killing random people who are completely innocent." L finished.
"So what...do we just let him kill convicts? What happens when no one is left?"
"That won't ever happen. KIRA is just another criminal...and like always, when one Criminal falls, another rises. Their like daisies, just keep popping up."

L's eyes wandered around the group and landed on Aizawa who was pulling his phone out, apologizing as he dismissed an alarm. "Please turn off and place all cellphones and handhelds on the table."
"What, do you think we will leak information or record the conversations held within this room, you don't trust us that much?!"
L raised a brow, giving them a deadpanned look as Yagami Senior told them to basically just listen to instructions.
Matsuda grinned, "I left mine in the car, I know he doesn't like cellphones."
"Yes, rather than not trusting you, I just can't stand when they go off while I'm talking. Such a distraction...also," he looked to Ukita, who had a notepad out, in the process of grabbing a pen. "No taking notes...on anything that's said in these meetings. Everything that is said should be committed to memory."
"What did you mean by innocent people being killed if we take choose not to display criminal names." Aizawa asked.
"...mm..."
Matsuda raised his hand, "I think I understand, actually, if think about it."
L looked curiously at Kagome who smiled at her brother, "then please, elucidate for your fellow colleagues."
"Right, well...when L...I mean, Ryuzaki had that convict, Lind L. Tailor...standing in for him. I hadn't thought too much on it, since like everyone else, I had assumed it was the real 'L', if you will. When Lind started to provoke KIRA, he was killed, by a name and face, which was made a discovery due to this broadcast. afterwards, we would start to get closer to figuring things out, clues and little bits and pieces, but as soon as we learned something...it would change, as if he was saying, try again...or taunting us. He's childish...he's treating this like a game, and if we take away the pawns in his game, he'll try to take our pieces. Law enforcement will probably be the first to be targeted. And KIRA will probably say that we are standing in the way of Justice or something."
"...yes, very good. And I have no doubt that is exactly what will happen."
"Who are your top suspects?"
Kagome looked at her hands in her lap, turning her eyes away from Mr. Yagami, she closed her eyes and sighed, "...we only have one."
"That's great!" Aizawa exclaimed.
"Yes..." L looked to Mr. Yagami, "I guess it is...Mr. Yagami...would you like to view the file on our suspect."
Mr. Yagami nodded, "...of course."
L looked at Kagome who stood and walked to L's bedroom and grabbed the file from his bed, no doubt he had been in here all night staring at it while contemplating whether or not this meeting would be a good idea or be ill-advised.
"Mr. Yagami...before you look at the file, please understand, that we have gone over every other possibility and have looked for many that would state otherwise...I'm sorry." She handed it over to him and he looked at her curiously before opening the file. It hurt to watch; his eyes widening as he read the name at the top of the page, standing and walking away from the group, he shook his head and turned a cold glare to L.
"Is this your idea of a joke!?"
L looked confused, "I'm not sure...while I do find it ironic...I wouldn't necessarily call if humorous. Do you think it's funny?"
"L...he wasn't really asking if it was funny. Nor was he looking for an answer like that." Kagome whispered, turning her eyes to Mr. Yagami, she looked lost but spoke, "this isn't just a guess...or a hunch...this is weeks of tailing and undercover research. He's looking for a queen for the new world. All I need is a voiced confession. If you wish, the video footage is for viewing, if you don't believe what's on paper, your eyes and ears may be better persuaded to what they see and hear."
His face took on an ash white color as he let gravity bring him down onto the couch. "...he's really...the only prospective suspect?"
"...I'm sorry."
