Last Chapter : The Fire for Peace
The chanting of white spirits circled closer and closer, tighter and tighter to my mate and I. Growling, snapping and snarling at them didn't do anything to them. They just chanted in their tongue and continued on with their dance, their eyes gleamed different colors but one. The eyes were a liquid fire red and the largest most purest white soul out of all of them. And, the paws set prints into the ground, marking it with the claws that seemed to dig into the earth. A celestial growl, that of the smoothest honey and roughest edge, made each spirit stop and turn their heads. Their chanting took a new height and change. Their bodies swayed side to side as their head slowly reached for the skies above. Low keen whines turned into full blown, high pitched, sing song howls. This howl could not be described, it was too beautiful and too dark to tell.
Derek Hail sat back with Scott McCall curled tightly into his side. The two watched helplessly as the spirits circled them quickly. Growling as a pure white soul padded slowly toward them. They were accompanied by another spirit, but this one was more of a dark white then themselves.
"Derek" That voice. Derek stopped his growling to stare unbelieving at the soul. "My pup, I had been the Absolute Alpha before you and now you are marked as the new generation for the position." Bowing his head, Storm closed his eyes. The power he had, began to glow from his being as his ears pressed forward and his tail curled.
"Scott" A gentle breeze-filled voice whispered. "My pup, I had been the Second Absolute before you and now pass it on to you. It would be a hard task to complete" Birch spoke softly. "But I give you my blessing and protection of you and your mate. I hereby give you my position." He too, bowed his head and closed his eyes.
Birch and Storm stepped forward, their eyes stayed closed. Derek whimpered. "Storm…. Birch…" he whispered, tears beginning to collect near the edges of his eyes.
Scott let the tears fall without shame. Sterling stepped forward, his unhuman body shivered. "It will be a hard long road ahead of you but these two former Alpha's give you their blessing and protection as well as their faith in you both." He paused then continued. "On this night, I hereby condemned and prevail the name Absolute Alpha, to be passed onto Derek Hail-" he paused when Storm opened his eyes and pressed his nose against Derek's forehead.
"I give you my life, knowledge, skills, and soul. They will protect, guide, and help in any situation that occurs." His being pulled back to let his head raise slowly toward the moon. His mouth opened to howl slowly then gradually raise in pitch. Soon, a raging white flame engulfed Derek. He stiffened as agonizing pain shot throughout his body. Closing his eyes, he inhaled sharply and held it. He wanted to scream in pain and wither but he stayed still. Biting down on his inner cheek, Derek scowled as he let it absorb into his skin.
Sterling continued after the first process was finished. "-And the second position of the Absolute Alpha Mate, Scott McCall." Slamming his staff down, Sterling eyes became a blaze of blue flames as he intertwined some of his soul into Scott.
After Storm's being seemed to be absorbed by Derek, Birch pressed forward and touched Scott's forehead. "I give you everything of mine, my pup. The love, compassion, open mindedness and many more other skills you'll need to keep peace at all times." He barked gently. Stepping back, Birch preformed the same task as his mate.
But when Scott was engulfed with flame, it was more intense and painful. He dropped onto his side and curled tightly around himself. The pain was unbearable. The blue/white flames seemed to burn his very soul, imprinting a mark. Rolling his eyes into the back of his head, Scott withered for a few heart beats until a gentle wave crashed over him and filled him to the brim with love and gentleness for each pack they needed to protect and guide.
Sterling watched critically, his eyes narrowed as he leaned heavily on his staff. Clipping it against the ground twice, the souls all stopped movement to turn their heads up to the sky and howl. Their forms flew into the air in a blinding flash, becoming electricity. Derek leaned over his mate and nudged him gently. Scott groaned with pain but sat up with the help of his mate. The two circled each other's arms around one another, looking for comfort. Sterling, the Father, let a sad smile roll of his lips while he shuffled his feet to balance himself more accordingly. "I must be off. I have to appoint two Archangels their Helper's." Turning away, the young man shifted into a golden eagle. His staff inter changed into his talons and beak. A sharp cry was heard before he took flight into the skies.
~*~Morning~*~
Derek stood before his pack with wisdom washing gently over his green eyes. "For this pack, I elect Byod as the Alpha for I have to travel far and wide." He spoke slowly and surely. Drifting his eyes toward the Northern Pack of Alaska. "And for your pack, I elect Bill." Removing his hand from his face, Derek stood straight and tall. His mate stepped from behind him soon as he felt the uncertainty coming from the Alpha. Reaching out, he laid a gentle hand on his upper arm and a warm smile toward him. Shifting his gaze to his mate, he sighed. "Step forward Boyd and Bill." Derek ordered. The two complied as he switched his gaze back to them. "Do you promise to protect, care and nurture your packs until the day you die?" he questioned.
The two stared intensely as they answered together. "I do"
Derek Hale lifted his hands and laid them gently on their shoulders. A small smile lined his lips as joy washed in his eyes. "Then as the Absolute Alpha, I give you the positon as the Alpha's." The young male spoke with his gentle tone.
Scott had moved back when he felt his mate at ease. Smiling reassuringly at the two new pack leaders, he grinned toward their pack mates. When the Alpha's stepped back from each other and returned to their respective packs, the two new Alpha's turned with their hands laced together. Scott twisted his head to stare at the eight packs now. "If you ever need us, you know how to reach us. Even if it is a small problem. Do not hesitate to call." Each Alpha nodded. The Beta's and Omega's bowed their head in understanding. "May your packs prosper and grow" Scott whispered when Derek tugged at his hand impatiently. The two shifted into full form and shot off into the afternoon sun. Their coats blended together perfectly as their eyes danced and twinkled with love and care. "
(This was a story told)
An elder female lay on her side with her eyes still twinkling. "Now young ones, your story has been told" she barked softly, her voice raspy.
A tannish white male pup barked with happiness. "GALE!" he howled. "I CALL BEING STORM!"
A larger male pup, much lighter in color then the other, sighed with his ears drawn back. "How could you possibly be Storm, Jack. He was clearly older then Birch by a lot. I'm seven months older then you" he reasoned as he stood up and shook his beautiful white coat. "Plus, I have duties to do" Gale reasoned further. "I do not have the time to play." Flicking his tail, Gale's snowy white eyes traveled toward the entrance of the camp. His eyes widen when he saw a large black wolf with a dark brown wolf near.
"But Gale!" he whined. Gale growled a warning at the smaller pup as he stepped out from the Elder's Den. He had neglected his duties long enough. Standing at his full height, Gale had still needed to be evaluated to be considered an adult wolf. Narrowing his eyes, the pup padded with grace and eloquence in his paw steps. Jack, the younger pup, followed suit. His emerald eyes glazed with pride when he copied Gale.
"Scott!" Jack raced passed Gale in a hurry.
Scott, the Second Absolute, lowered himself down to the ground with a gentle smile. "How's it going, Jack?" he asked.
Jack gibbered to Scott about the tale of when he was a pup himself, Scott smiled and laughed at the pup's eagerness. Gale stood short of Derek Hale. The two locked eyes for a few moments before Derek nodded his head in acknowledgement. The leader of the pack came trotting up with annoyance in his gaze when he saw them. "Please forgive the pups" he flicked his tail for them to leave but Gale stayed were he stood, his eyes still trained on Derek.
"It's quiet all right Trevor." Barked Scott as he smiled mildly at the Alpha.
Trevor, the Alpha, glared at the two pups before moving to Derek's side. Derek kept his eyes trained on Gale through the whole conversation. The pup had guts. "Gale should be having his evaluation tonight. Am I wrong?" Derek questioned as he finely broke the intense staring.
"His will be held back for another month" Trevor reported. Derek blinked his confusion, didn't have to voice it. "He had disobeyed orders when we fought against Jett's pack." He informed.
Derek narrowed his eyes and looked back at Gale, who had sat down with his tail curled neatly around his paws and his back straight. "It was for the greater good, Trevor. If I hadn't left, your son wouldn't be alive" he spoke calmly and much to wise for a pup his age. Derek found that intriguing.
Trevor's amber gaze glared at the pup again. "Must you talk back too!" he growled. "You have duties to do, get to them" he ordered. Gale stood slowly but surely, his white eyes trained on Jack.
"Come along Jack" he barked softly. "Your mother must be worried"
Jack whined but complied and followed Gale to the Mother's Den, his tail erect and ears pressed forward. Each wolf he walked passed, had moved out of his way.
"Interesting." Muttered Derek to his mate, Scott. The younger Alpha blinked but smiled, he already knew the answer. Leaning on his mate, Derek laid his head gently on Scott's. "The Betas and Omegas must be dying to speak with you." The elder wolf spoke, his voice deep.
Scott caught on and nodded. "They must be" he reasoned. "I'll take my leave then. Now behave Derek." Removing himself from his Alpha's side, Scott flicked his tail onto his mate's nose before trotting off toward the group of Beta's and omegas.
Trevor sighed with relief. "Please do forgive Gale for his straight forwardness, he is much to wise for his age. I do thank him for bring my son home but that does not mean I have to go easy on him for doing so. He had disobeyed and I had to punish him. Hard thing to do when a pup at his age wants nothing more than to take off and make his own pack." Sighed the Alpha again.
Derek narrowed his eyes when Gale appeared, Jack still in tow. The two padded slowly toward the other side of the camp with Gale's tail resting on Jack's back and the pup was speaking to him. "So I've heard" he replied. "And yet he doesn't fuss or complain about the extra work load he has. He simply keeps on walking." He whispered.
The Alpha nodded his head as he too, watched Gale interact with Jack. "Sometimes I wonder if he was born before with the stuff he knows. Though I highly doubt it. His father was the Second in Command before the War and died in battle. His mother had given birth to him on a bright moonlit sky. Clearer then any night I've seen in a long time." Trevor barked. "And when Gale was born, there was something about it that put my wolves to ease. We had won once he was born. Weird now that I think about it."
"Weird in what way?" questioned the Absolute.
Trevor was quiet for a few moments, thinking. "Well, the female's in labor seem to have more birth success then before and the sickly, heal to full recovery. Plus, Ethan had gotten his full sight back." The Alpha replied shortly.
Derek kept his attention locked on Gale. The pup was laying down with Jack pressed tightly into his stomach as he ate his afternoon snack. And the way he would glare coldly at each wolf that passed by to scold the pups for taking a snack from the kills. Pressing his ear forward when one particular gray wolf had stepped up to Gale. "There is enough to go around or I wouldn't have let Jack touch any of them" Gale's voice iced the air, but he continued. "If you think there's not enough for two rounds then please do stock on it. I am on baby-sitting duties from Ava herself." Gale retorted hotly.
The gray female sighed and sat near the two male's, her golden eyes casted looks for help from their Alpha. Sighing, Trevor went to stand but Derek sent him a look. "Let me" he spoke. Trevor sat back down as Derek stocked up the two.
Gale watched him with one eye open and his tail securely around Jack. "If you're here to scold me too, get in line." Gale's voice was drawn from boredom.
Jack turned his gaze to the male and nipped his ear roughly. Gale yelped in surprise and turned his gaze onto Jack. "Be nice!" he growled warningly.
Gale stared at him for a few moments before standing quickly. Jack rolled off of him in heap of fur. "Whatever" he huffed and padded away from them. Not far but out of hearing range.
Jack sighed and shook his head. "Sorry about Gale, he's always been like this." The pup stared sadly at his friend. "He doesn't like hanging out with the rest of the pups his age, he would prefer staying with me or in the den with my mother, Ava."
Derek sat near him, he saw Gale tense up and glare toward him. Ignoring him, the Absolute leaned down and stared at the pup intently. "Why do you think that is?" he asked softly.
Jack sat for a moment, his eyes traveled from Gale to Derek. The words he spoke were more wiser then any wolf his age. "I know he has affection toward me and I to him but he would be the Alpha some day and I… I on the other hand would be a simple member of the pack." Jack looked down to the ground. "I feel anger and sadness toward that but there is nothing I can do about it. I know Gale better then anyone, and he fighting it. I've tried to convince him to just accept that he was born to lead and I too follow. Though he argued that I should be by his side and help him. I had to decline. An Omega and a full Alpha…" he paused, trying desperately not wail in front of the Alpha but failing miserably.
Before Derek could ask any more questioned, Gale was up and over there in no time. He curled protectively around the pup with licks to his face and forehead while his tail kept a reassuring pressure on his sides. "It's fine Jack" he whispered. Jack shuffled to lay down with him, curling tightly into a ball. Gale's eyes softened quickly as he licked the top of Jack's head. "Jah loah mita, (Ja-ha, Low-ah, my-ta)*, Jack" he whispered.
"Jie niff buck"* he answered with a wavering voice.
Derek sighed as he stared at the two. Not before long, Jack was asleep and it was just the two. The grey female and left to hunt. "Jack really likes you" he spoke low.
"I know he does" Gale whispered back, his eyes stayed closed.
Silence rang out before Derek broke it. "How would you like to be my Learner?" he asked.
"I can't leave Jack" came a strong and quick reply. "If I go, he goes"
Derek nodded his head. "Why is it that you are attached to the pup and he too you?"
Gale sighed and lifted his head from Jack with effort. His snowy white eyes locked Derek into place. "I don't know, it's just there. Ever since he was born. Before he was born, I had this feeling like I wasn't whole. I was just an empty shell. No one kept me interested, I was quiet cold to anyone. But when Jack came along-" he looked down with a fond smile. "I just knew he was for me. My own little gift from the Father." His tongue was gentle on the pup, not disturbing him.
Derek made a noise of acknowledgement in the back of his throat. He sat there in silence, thinking over what the pup had said. He was so deep in thought he hadn't seen his mate pad up too him until he felt a gentle lick too his cheek. "Ready?" he asked.
"Yeah" he answered and stood up. Turning his head back to Gale, he smiled softly. "Keep him, he's the one" he whispered before walking after his mate.
It had been 4 years before Gale became the Alpha with Jack at his side. It had been an uncommon occurrence for two males to be the Alphas but no one questioned Gale. Derek and Scott Hale had stopped by as much as they could. Gale remembered who he was before but kept Jack in the dark. He would rather have Jack live a simple life. Now the four Great Leaders were roaming the lands with ease, it had been peaceful.
