Memories of you
by Alley McNally

AUTHOR'S NOTE:
This story takes place shortly after the death of Superman. And while it follows his death–it does not fit into any known universe. It stands on its own. Enjoy.

Memories. That's all I have left of you. Oh God, I can't do this alone! I need you Clark. . . Why aren't you here? Why did you go and leave me all alone? Lois thought as she sat alone in her apartment. She clutched a picture of her beloved. It was taken . . . When? Oh, why can't I remember? It was only a short time ago. Was it when they broke the smuggling ring? Or maybe it was during that failed Planet Picnic last summer. She chuckled slightly as she remembered throwing the entire bowl of potato salad at his head. He did something to make her angry, she just couldn't remember the life of her what it was. He was always doing that to her–pushing her buttons–testing her limits. It made her want to scream! And that bastard he enjoyed it too. Just as he enjoyed being inside her. Oh God, she'd never be able to feel him again. She felt so alone, so vulnerable, so broken.

She bitterly wished that he would just walk in the door, tell her that it was all a mistake. He was fine and that . . . That he loved her! But she was there, she held him as the life left his body, there was no mistaking what had happened. Her lover was gone and she had to accept that. She had to. Too bad she couldn't do it, not yet at least. The pain was too new, too fresh. It demanded her attention. She barely ate, hardly slept, and couldn't write.

What good is a reporter who can't write? She asked herself that she got up from the chair. She felt so empty, so hollow but she had no idea how to fill that void. If it could ever be filled. Right now she hated herself, hated her weakness. She knew that Clark wouldn't want her to treat herself like this but she couldn't force herself to do anything else.

"Lois." A whisper. Clark? Lois thought for a moment. Then she realized it was only a memory. Feeling more alone than she had ever felt before, Lois crumpled to the ground. She desperately tried to to force out the pain that wracked her body but she couldn't. She couldn't even cry. Silently she screamed and no one answered. After all, she was alone.
