"A vacation?" I asked my best friend, Erin, as I rose from my bed.

"Yeah, a vacation, we haven't done shit throughout summer break and now it's almost over!" Erin said as she ran a hand through her thin black hair.

I yawned and checked the clock, it read eight thirty-five. "What place did you have mind?" I asked curiously as I rubbed the sleep out of my icy blue eyes.

"The Mexican jungle," Erin replied with a grin.

"Sorry, Tarzan, you're on your own on that one!" I barked.

"I was afraid you'd say that so I already made reservations." Erin announced.

I grabbed my pillow and threw it at her. "You dumbass . . . . alright, I guess since you did everything already-"

"Ahhh! Thanks, boo, we're gonna have such a great time!" Erin squealed, clapping her pale hands excitedly. "You should start packing we're leaving tomorrow." She added, running out of the room.

"Erin!" I yelled and ran after her.

"I can't believe you got me into this," I mumbled as we finally got off the plane and stepped into the humid Mexico air. I'd be lying if I said Mexico wasn't beautiful, it was absolutely gorgeous.

Erin grabbed my lightly tanned elbow. "You'll thank me," she said with a wink.

"Should I be concerned?" I asked.

"Of course not." Erin giggled.

"Why me?"

"Don't worry, Bella, it's my last year of high school. This is the last summer break I have with you before i leave for college and i want to make it fun for us, okay?"

"I guess."

After showering and unpacking at our hotel, Erin dragged me with her to the Lacandon jungle. It looked like the kind of jungle you'd see in the Tarzan movie. The jungle had large spikey leaves, thick bushes peppering the area, tall trees that reach toward the sun, vines everywhere you look, and the air smelled like rich soil.

I glanced down at my jean short shorts, white v neck tank top, and black converse high tops. I was wearing all the clothes you want to wear in this climate and I was still hot as heck. "Erin, can we take a break? I'm dying back here."

I sighed when she didn't respond. "I know they're here somewhere." She muttered.

"Who?" I asked curiously.

"Oh, um, no one." She smiled and walked ahead, her sandals crushing twigs as she went.

I had the nagging feeling I was being watched. I stopped in my tracks, turning to scan the area. Nothing. I turned to face Erin's back and resumed walking. Suddenly I felt something grab my waist and spin me.

I screamed.

A person laughed and the pressure around my waist disappeared. I turned on my heel and saw a Mexican man who looked to be in his twenties.

"You American girls don't like to having fun?" He asked with a pronounced accent but before I thought up an answer, Erin ran toward us. When she saw the man with me she stopped an smiled.

"Well, hello." She greeted him with a sweet smile.

"Hola, senorita," he replied with a grin.

"Don't touch me again." I threatened as I walked past him. I grabbed Erin's arm and began steering her away from the stranger.

"You girls look tired. Would you like to come to my camp and relax?" He called after us.

"We're fine." I replied, walking a tad faster.

"Sure." Erin said, ripping out of my grip. "No." I said firmly.

"Oh, come on, Bella. You said you wanted to stop and rest, didn't you?" Erin asked as she stood next to the man. "Come on, Ella," the man smiled. I raised an eyebrow as Erin laughed at his mistake.

"It's Bella." I growled, rolling my eyes. He shrugged his shoulders.

"What's your name?" Erin asked, sparkles in her eyes.

"Lorenzo, and yours pretty girl?" "Erin."

"Oh, god." I whispered. This isn't happening.

"Let's go!" Lorenzo said enthusiastically and began leading the way. Erin hooked my arms.

"You can't be serious!" I hissed at her.

"I'm gonna sleep with him." Erin told me as if it was the most normal thing in the world. I stopped walking and stared at her like she was a lunatic.

I stuttered uselessly for a moment before being able to form a coherent response. "That's a sick joke, Erin. You can't give your virginity to a stranger."

"What? I'm gonna lose it someday anyway. Why not in Mexico-the country of love?" She replied nonchalantly.

"That's France."

"Oh, whatever! He looks like he could do the trick."

"Erin, you really should wait."

"I'm eighteen, I can do whatever I want. You shouldn't be telling me what to do, child."

"Just because you're a year older than me, doesn't mean you can call me a kid." I groused, bumping her with the elbow shed latched on to.

"I'm still doing it." Erin said defiantly, sticking out her tongue.

"Yeah, with a guy you met in the jungle. For all we know he could be a crazy guy who talks to chimps." I mumbled. If I wasn't with her during the entire journey, I'd ask her if she slipped something funny in her drink, there's also the fact that she's my friend and I know she doesn't do that.

"Can I ask you something?" She questioned out of the blue.

"Go ahead." I sighed in resignation.

"I've been talking to some of my brothers military buddies and they told me they'd be here in camp, but I can't find them."

"Well, its not like they disappeared-unless they lied."

"No . . . at least I hope not."

Erin and I followed Lorenzo quietly for a while, enjoying the silence. It was at that moment that I noticed how quiet it really was, there were no birds singing or monkeys making a racket, just dead silence.

"Here we are, senorita." Lorenzo said as we finally reached his camping ground, but he wasn't alone, two other Mexican men were there.

Both men began to speak Spanish with Lorenzo and laughed, they looked like they were in their thirties. I had a bad feeling in my stomach, Erin looked nervous and started playing with the spaghetti strap of her shirt. The older guys motioned for us to sit with them, of course Erin obeyed without question but I didn't budge. Lorenzo's companions had the same black hair, dark eyes, and yellowed teeth. I leaned on my hip and watched my friend as she sat with them on the jungle floor, crossing my arms as the older men whistled at me. Lorenzo was still standing next to me.

"Would you like to sit with me?" He offered, sweeping his arm toward the floor in a grand gesture.

I shook my head stubbornly.

He rolled his eyes and gave up, deciding to sit with Erin. I turned and began walking in the direction we came, they didn't notice.

It was beginning to get dark out so I had to push around the leaves that became obstacles and sat down once I found a big enough clear spot. I jolted in surprise when I saw someone or something running toward me. I jumped into a standing position, alert. In the distance I saw what resembled a hog, but had long spikes on it's back and sharp teeth as long as a mans middle finger that curled toward it's chin. The hog-like creature roared as it charged, I turned and began running for dear life. I could hear the beast following and screamed, praying that my legs would move faster as I swung my as frantically back and forth. I leaped over logs in my path, until I suddenly tripped over something. I quickly got to my feet to take a look at what I fell over and felt like vomiting. I'd fallen over a man in military clothing covered in blood, his spine and skull had been ripped from his body. I covered my mouth, partly in horror and partly to cover the stench, and slowly backed away from the body. In the corner of my eye I saw the hog thing staring at me, his pink body rocking back and forth in preparation to attack and suddenly he charged. I stood frozen in fear as I watched the hog-like beast hurtling toward me for a few moments before I squeezed my eyes shut, allowing a single tear to escape. I wasn't ready to die.

As if my prayers were answered, the attack didn't come. I opened my eyes to discover the beast had stopped in its tracks as an ear pitching whistle filled the jungle air, he gave me one last hiss and ran in the direction it came. I ran in what I assumed was the direction of the camp, wanting to grab Erin and get the hell out of the jungle. I could hear my heart beating a million miles an hour as I made my way back, I heard a scream from ahead and the sound pushed me to run faster until I felt like I was flying with the hot wind hitting my sweating face. When I finally entered the camp, I leaned forward to place my hands on my knees to try to catch my breath.

"Come to join the party?" Asked a voice ahead of me. I looked up to see Lorenzo standing in front of me.

"Erin . . . . where's Erin?" I gasped between breaths.

"She's busy." He smiled. Another scream filled the air, I swallowed forcefully. "I'm not going to ask you again, Lorenzo. Where is my friend?" I demanded, glaring at him.

"Leaving so soon?" He frowned, then continued. "I don't think so."

Something jumped in the tree making leaves fall. I turned my body so my back was to Lorenzo, searching the trees and found nothing. Lorenzo grabbed my wrist hard, meanwhile I tried to stay calm.

"Let go," I said softly. He touched the back of my neck, leaning in to whisper to me. "Beg." My best friend was being raped and this pervert wanted to rape me! I curled my hand as a fist, whirling around and punching him hard in the jaw, his head turned from the force of the punch. He recovered quickly, jumping on me and knocking me to the ground.

"Get off me!" I shouted angrily.

Two blades suddenly erupted from his abdomen, his eyes were as wide as saucers and blood slowly crept down the side of his closed mouth. I crawled out from underneath him and began to run but I hit something hard, causing me to fly back onto my backside. I jerked my head up as I heard what seemed like clicking sounds, a creature that had to be over seven feet tall stood there. It was wearing a silvery-grey mask and a bird device on its shoulder, its scaly skin was yellow and green wearing a leather cover up. It stared at me for a while, then was gone-it became one with the air-then my world went black.
