"Astrid…I'm never gonna be one of those people."
"What?"
Hiccup and Astrid were sitting in Toothless' cove together, staring up at the stars; the dragon was curled up beneath their heads, acting as a pillow for them and the Night Fury was fast asleep.
"I'm never gonna be one of those people," he replied, pointing to the entrance to the cove. "You know, like Snotlout, or Tuffnut. I'm never gonna be like them or grow muscles or love killing or be a great fighter. I'm just gonna be Hiccup. So just…tell me now if you're gonna leave me."
"WHAT?" Astrid sat bolt upright and physically jerked Hiccup up, too. "Listen to yourself, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third," she said angrily. "'Tell me now if you're gonna leave me'! I will NEVER leave you! You're the only man for me."
Hiccup said, "Don't you mean boy?"
"No," Astrid replied with a smile. "Man. You're a boy here," and she socked Hiccup on the shoulder. "…But you're a man here." And she laid her hand on his heart.
Hiccup smiled shyly. "Thank you."
"Do you honestly think I care what you look like or whether or not you like killing?"
"You did before."
"Well, that was because I thought you were just an attention-seeking nuisance, didn't I?" Astrid explained patiently.
Hiccup rolled his eyes. "Gee thanks," he said. "THAT made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside."
Astrid socked him.
Then she kissed him and said, "Hiccup, it doesn't matter to me if you're never gonna be one of those people. You're different. You're just a different type of hero."
