Beep

Beep

As I began to wake, the steady beeping slowly became annoying.

"Oh," I groaned "Where am I?"

Looking around all I could see was white. After blinking a few times, I saw I was in a hospital, only it didn't look like the ones in Oregon.

"Oh good, you're awake," said a very tanned nurse, that had been busy looking over charts.

"Where am I?" I groaned, my mind still a little foggy.

"You're in Florida hospital Orlando," she answered, checking the IV

"Florida!" I exclaimed, trying to get up, only to collapse back down in a fit of moans.

"Oh, please don't," exclaimed the nurse, laying a hand on my shoulder. "You sustained quite a few injuries. A broke wrist and ankle, damage to the head, and multiple burns."

"What?" I muttered, looking to see my ankle and wrist were in fact bandaged. Both were in slings, and my ankle was even elevated. "How did this happen?"

"We were hoping you could tell us,"

"I'm not sure how I got here,"

"Could you at least tell me your name?"

"Danny... my name is Danny,"

"Alright Danny, well after a little sleep we'll see if you remember anything else."

"But I'm not..." I murmured, as she injected pain meds.

I woke up later, more alert than before but also in more pain. The same nurse came in a few minutes later, with a big smile on her face.

"Good to see your awake," she said "How do you feel?"

"In pain," I grunted

"Why don't we get you some pain medication?"

"No, I'm fine," I said, while vague memories played in my mind. "Was I with anyone else, when I came in?"

"There was a boy, he said name was... oh it started with a j, um... Jim, it was Jim,"

"Jim," I breathed, memories flying back. The map, pirate ship, and cave. "Oh my god, is he okay?"

"He has injuries similar to yours, though less severe," she said "Is there anyone we can call?"

"Amanda, but listen I'm not suppose to be in Florida I'm from Oregon!" I explained

"Well, do you remember anything that could explain why?"

"I...no," I lied "I don't."

"Why don't you give me that number and see what we can do,"

About a hour later, we had gotten a hold of her. Suffice it to say, she wasn't happy.

"Where the hell have you been?!"

"Amanda,"

"Two days you've been gone! Then I hear that you're in Florida! Florida!"

"I know and I'm sorry, but..."

"Oh you're going to be sorry when your dad hears about this!"

"Amanda,"

"When I get there, you are going to be wishing that sorry was all you're feeling!" she screeched "I'll be down there in a couple of hours."

It didn't get any better when she was here and saw the injuries.

"What the hell have you done?!"

"I can't tell you,"

"Can't tell me? You're covered in burns!" she yelled "And that boy Jim, he looks about the same as you!"

"I wish I could tell you, but you wouldn't believe me,"

"Try me,"

"I can't,"

"Just try,"

"No,"

"Danny... fine," she sighed "But don't expect to get off so easy with your dad."

"Do you really need to tell him?" I asked, shifting in bed.

"If I don't, then I could be fired for not telling him,"

"If you can get ahold of him,"

"Then I better get started,"

As she left the room, another came hobbling in.

"Jim," I breathed, seeing the bruises and burn that littered his face.

He walked in, leaning heavily on the IV. His arms and legs had scratches and burns as well. One arm was in a sling like mine.

"Hey, good to see you're awake,"

"You too," I said, trying to smile "How are you feeling?"

"Like hell, but I've been worse," he said grinning

"I'm sorry," I blurted, my eyes watering "If I had just stayed out of it, like you said, then you wouldn't be like this."

"I'd be like this and worse," he said, taking a seat next to my bed. "I'm just glad you're alright."

"So what do we tell them?" I asked

"Nothing, if we can,"

"What about the map? Do you still have it?"

"Yeah, lucky it didn't wash out my pants,"

"Yeah, lucky"

"Hopefully I can find a way home and the search can continue,"

"You have any idea how you're going to do that?"

"No," he said, with a sly grin "Want to help?"

"Why not?"

That day I knew our paths would eventually part, but heck I didn't care then. Right then, all I cared about was getting out of bed and spending more time with my galactic friend.

I'm done! So many years of working on this and it's done. Sorry that there wasn't much romance in this story. And I'm sorry to say that there will be no sequel. At least I won't be writing one. I don't have an idea for one, so if any of you have one feel free to tell me, or even write one yourself. All I ask is for a little recognition. I hope you guys enjoyed this story!
