Protection and Sacrifice.

Fili and Kili stared down at the wounded Thorin, lying on the ground in a pool of his own blood. "B-Boys…" he said quietly to them, pain ravaging his eyes as arrows and a nasty gash bit into his flesh. "Boys, don't…" Thorin pleaded, but Kili looked at his older brother, a twinge of fear crossing his face, and Fili turned to his younger brother, the one he'd always protected and loved with a fire brighter than any fire-drake could muster.

He brushed his fingers against Kili's cheek, wiping away the tear that had started making its way down his brother's cheek. "It will be okay, Kili, I promise," he said and his brother hugged him, whispering softly, "I love you, Fili. More than all the gold in Erebor." Fili smiled as his heart ached, knowing that he would never love another as he loved Kili. "I love you too, Kili," he whispered.

They let go of each other and turned to face the hordes that were advancing on them. Thorin reached out for his boys, the two people that he'd always shown the affection of a father and the love of a friend and ally. "Fili… Kili, please," he said as tears stung his eyes. But Fili half-turned to his uncle and smiled at him. "Don't worry, we'll keep you safe," he said and Kili turned and smiled at Thorin the smile that Thorin cherished more than anything in Middle Earth. "Don't worry, Uncle Thorin, they won't get us," he said.

But even as they turned to face the hordes, both of them knew that they were facing their deaths. But to die with the one you loved beside you, protecting the uncle they loved was an honour that nothing would ever come close to.
