Prologue
Bella watched as Alice shut her phone and she struggled against Jasper's hold on her uselessly, it was like having iron bars wrapped around her torso. "Alice, don't do this," Bella begged her. "He has my mom. He'll kill her!" Bella burst into tears of frustration and fear, fighting harder against Jasper when Alice did not respond. Bella slumped in his arms suddenly giving up resisting as exhaustion swept over her. It only took a moment for her to realize what was going on. "No, Jasper..." Bella tried to protest but she was already falling asleep. Her eyelids slid shut as she went limp against Jasper who caught her easily.
"Its for your own good, Bella," Alice told Bella just as she succumbed to Jasper's ability.
Its was hours later when Bella jolted awake, she threw her arm over her eyes to protect them from the sun coming in through the window. After a moment Bella sat up slowly, blinking in the harsh sunlight. Once her eyes had focused enough Bella glanced around the room surveying her surroundings. It took her mere moments to deduce she was back in the hotel room she had been in earlier.
Bella rubbed her eyes sleepily and flopped back down on the bed when everything that had happened in the last 48 hours suddenly came rushing back. James had her mom and she had to stop Edward before he got her killed. Sitting up so quickly her head was spinning she made to get off the bed when the door opened causing her to freeze. Bella narrowed her eyes when Edward stepped into the room and opened his arms expectantly. "Bella, love," he breathed, smiling. Bella slid off the bed landing on the balls of her feet with a soft thud and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Don't you 'Bella, love' me Edward Cullen," she snarled at him. "How could you do this? She's my mother!" Tears began rolling down her face again as she thought of loosing her mother. Struggling to breath through her tears she snatched up a tissue from the box on the bedside table and wiped her nose.
"I'm sorry, Bella," Edward said sincerely, looking away from the crying form of his girlfriend not being able to look her in the eye as he delivered the news. "We did our best but James was too fast. We didn't get there in time to save her." Edward remained looking away from a long moment but when he heard nothing he risked a look at Bella.
She stood by the side of the bed staring into the tissue in her hand. Edward reached out to comfort her but that seemed to snapped Bella out of whatever trance she was in. Bella flinched away from his out stretched hand and moving away until she hit the wall before sliding down it, curling into a ball on the floor her body shaking with the force of her sobs.
Once Bella was still and quiet Edward moved to approach her again. "Stay away from me!" She warned the vampire in a cold voice raising her head slowly.
"Bella..." he spoke her name gently, almost a plea.
"She's dead, Edward," Bella stated looking at him for the first time since he had told her. "My mom is dead and it is all your fault."
"You're being over-dramatic, Bella," Edward told her loosing his temper a little but it came out harsher than he intended.
"Over-dramatic?" Bella demanded, pulling her self up from the floor to face him. "You bet your ass I'm being over-dramatic. This is my mother we are talking about, Edward. You willingly sacrificed her life."
"To save yours!"
"That was never your decision to make," she roared back, her anger at his betrayal taking over from the sadness she felt just for a moment. She stared at him in silence for a long beat before turning away to gaze out the window. Bella flinched when the door slammed shut as Edward exited the room.
Bella was stood in the exact same place when the door opened again a couple of hours later. Edward barely even stepped into the room as he told Bella they were leaving. Grabbing her bag from the bed she made her way out of the room, Edward moved to take it from her shoulder but a warning look from Bella had him backing away with his hands held in surrender. Bella didn't even look at the other Cullen's as she made her way outside, just as angry with them as she was with Edward.
Once in the hotels parking lot Bella looked between Alice's stolen car and Edwards Volvo. Edward successfully took her bag from her shoulder and put it in the boot of the Volvo before opening the passenger door for her and waiting by it. Fighting down her anger Bella wordlessly moved towards Alice sliding into the back seat and slamming the door behind her. Edward moved as if to head for the car but Alice appeared at his side putting her hand on his shoulder and shook her head. "Give her space, Edward," she advised her brother before walking away.
Bella watched with relief when Edward climbed into the passenger seat of the Volvo without much argument. Carlisle slid into the driver seat at the same time as Rose and Emmett climbed in the back.
Alice and Jasper climbed in the front of the car Bella was in and Esme slid in beside her silently. Bella curled herself into the door and closing her eyes wished desperately she could be anywhere but in this car. Relishing in the feel of the cool glass against her over heated cheek Bella let her mind drift to the situation that was Edward. What he had done was awful, he had no right risking her mothers life. It should have been Bella's choice, she could have saved her and in her eyes Edward took that away.
Bella opened her eyes as she looked up at the starless sky she came to a decision to end her relationship with Edward. She still loved him of course and she knew that would not go away over night but Edward had betrayed her and in doing so had lost her trust. Bella still loved them all dearly but didn't see how she could be around them without trusting them and knowing they had effectively taken away her mother.
Bella, emotionally and physically exhausted, let her eyes drift shut and sleep take her just as Alice got a vision. So she did not see Alice's eyes fix on her in the rear-view mirror after she saw the outcome of Bella's decision, nor did she see Alice pull out her cell to warn Edward of what would wait for him once they returned to Forks.
A/N: Posted on 30/04/2016. All outfits are on my profile. So I have rewritten this stroy so its not entirely from Bella's point of view anymore. Will continue to post the updated chapters over the next week. I'll post a new one at the end as well. Violet x.
