Hulk Out

Chapter One: The Accident

~(^.^)~

Dr. David Banner: physician; scientist. Searching for a way to tap into the hidden strengths that all humans have. Then an accidental overdose of gamma radiation alters his body chemistry. And now when David Banner grows angry or outraged, a startling metamorphosis occurs. The creature is driven by rage and pursued by an investigative reporter. [Banner:] "Mr. McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." The creature is wanted for a murder he didn't commit. David Banner is believed to be dead, and he must let the world think that he is dead, until he can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within him.

Tamie Scott: medical student. While on a field trip she is accidently exposed to gamma radiation that alters her body chemistry. And now whenever she gets angry or outraged, a startling metamorphosis occurs. Tamie is believed to have been killed in the same accident that caused her to become the Hulk, and she must let the world think that she is dead, until she can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within her.

I looked back fondly at my old home, my old college. I sighed, hefted my bag up higher on my shoulder, and walked away from the town. I'd lived all my life in Baltimore Maryland with my grandparents until they died two years ago, after that I was all by myself. I'd started college to earn my doctorate when I was 21, and now I'm 29. I'd almost finished college, and I'd almost gotten my doctorate. But a trip to a medical research facility had ended all my dreams…

~(^.^)~

"This is going to be the best field trip yet," Marie my best friend stated, jumping up and down.

Marie Luciana González was a short dark skinned girl with long curly black hair, and deep brown eyes. We'd met and become friends when we first started college and had to share a dorm room. Marie had to be one of the happiest, hyper-ist people I had ever met in my entire life, and that's one of the reasons why she was my best friend. There was never a dull moment when she was around.

We were currently heading towards the gamma radiation section of the research facility, which is the reason for my friend's current freak out. We both wanted to become doctors, and we both had an interest in gamma radiation research.

"All right everyone this room right here is our gamma radiation research room," The tour guide says, leading us into the room.

"Hi Helene, how are you today?" A man in a lab coat asked, walking over to us.

"I'm fine, everyone this is Dr. James Mattson, he's the person in charge of the gamma research that we do here," Helene introduced.

Helene and Dr. Mattson went on to tell us about some of the research they did with gamma radiation. We were just about to leave for the next section of the tour when the ground started to shake, causing me to stumble backwards into Marie making us both fall to the floor.

"Earth quake," Someone shouted.

I tried to climb off Marie but the ground was shaking so much that I couldn't stand up. Several pieces of ceiling fell making several people scream. I could hear a hum coming from somewhere in the room.

"What is that?" I shouted.

"It's the machine, it's turned itself on," Dr. Mattson replied. The ground continued to shake, but I manage to pull myself off of Marie.

"I've got to turn the machine off," Dr. Mattson shouted, moving towards the machine.

Suddenly a shelf tipped forward, and I had to dive to the side to keep from being smashed. I looked back to see Marie lying unconscious on the ground. It looked like some equipment had fallen on her. Dust was falling from the ceiling, and suddenly a piece of the ceiling fell, and landed on top of Marie.

"Marie!" I shouted, running over to her.

Everyone else had run out of the room, well except for Dr. Mattson who was still trying to turn off the machine. The ground continued to shake underneath me as I tried to lift the piece of the ceiling off of Marie.

"Come on we have to get out of here, I can't get the machine to turn off, a piece of the ceiling fell on it and damaged it," Dr. Mattson exclaimed, grabbing my arm.

"I'm not leaving Marie, she's my best friend," I replied, pulling away from him and once again trying to lift the piece of ceiling off Marie.

Dr. Mattson moved to the other side of Marie, and tried to help me lift it. I felt a sting in my hands as the piece of ceiling cut into my palms. Suddenly I heard a loud creak, and I looked up just in time to see the ceiling falling down on us…

I woke up later that day sitting on a log in a forest just outside town. My shirt was completely ripped, and hung over my shoulders; barely covering my chest. My pants were torn but not as badly as my shirt, I wasn't wearing any shoes, and my long red hair was tangled. I later found out that both Marie and Dr. Mattson had died from their injuries. But the thing that shocked me the most was that the Hulk had been seen carrying them out of the building. I'd followed the Hulk story closely, I'd found the whole thing interesting. The idea of someone like the Hulk even existed intrigued me, and I was defiantly surprised to learn that a man turned into the Hulk.

But the weirdest part about it was that the people who saw the Hulk said that it was a girl Hulk. Another thing that surprised me was that everyone thought I was dead. I'd gone back to my dorm room that day, and ran into my friend Eric Ports. He'd explained the whole thing to me, and he was the first one to suggest that just like 'John Doe' I was now able to turn into as he called it 'a she Hulk'. He helped me get my things packed, and then he'd drove me out of town.

"I hope to see you again someday," Eric stated, smiling at me.

"Well after I find a cure for this thing I'll come back," I replied, smiling back. We hugged, then Eric got in his car and drove back into town…

~(^.^)~

I sighed once again, and continued down the road. I had no doubt that Jack McGee a reporter from the National Register would be coming to town seeing as there'd been a Hulk sighting. Man would he be in for a surprise. I walked down the dusty road heading away from town. It looked like I was the only one out here. I remember Eric showing me the news broad cast on the incident at the medical research facility. They'd shown Dr. Mattson's, Marie's, and my pictures.

Someone had managed to take a picture of the 'she Hulk' carrying Dr. Mattson's and Marie's bodies out of the building, and I honestly didn't look anything like myself. My skin was the same shade of green as the Hulk's, but my hair was a deep shade of red and fell down my back in waves. I'd also had muscles, big muscles, and had grown an extra two and a half feet. The strangest part was my face, which had taken on a caveman like appearance.

I was pulled out of my thoughts as a car raced past me. I shook my head, and picked up my pace…

Several days' later {Virginia state line}

I finished off my sandwich, then closed my bag and pulled it back onto my shoulder. I stood up and started walking once again. I'd been walking for several days now, only stopping to rest, eat, and use the bathroom, and on occasion I'd hitched a ride. I'd walked all night to get into the next town, and I'd just arrived a few minutes ago. Honestly, I was beyond tired and wanted nothing more than to curl up in a bed and get some sleep. I was walking down the street when I heard someone yelling. I turned to see three men standing in an alley

"Look I don't have any money," One of the men said.

One of the other men grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, and I felt my blood boil. Now most people would just walk away, maybe call the cops, but I'm not most people. I turned into the alley and started walking towards the group of people. Marie had always said I was impulsive, and if calling out a couple of muggers with no help wasn't impulsive than I don't know what is. Although in my defense I do know how to fight and these guys weren't really all that big. Yeah, they were almost a foot taller than me, but neither of them had muscles. The only advantage they had was a knife.

"Hey, leave him alone," I shouted, walking towards them.

"Stay out of this lady or you're gonna get hurt," One of the men said, waving a knife at me.

"Oh please," I muttered, rolling my eyes.

I dropped my bag to the ground then quickly grabbed the man's arm and bent it backwards causing him to drop the knife. I made a quick jab at his arm, hitting the pressure point. I let go of his arm, and he stumbled back away from me.

"What did you do to my arm?" He asked, holding his arm.

"I just hit a pressure point you'll be fine in an hour or two," I replied.

"Now do you want to be next?" I asked, turning to the man holding the other guy by his collar. The man shook his head and let go of him. The two of them ran off, and I smiled.

"Uh thanks," The man said. I looked at him and couldn't help but feel like I've seen him before. But from where? He seemed nervous, but then again he did just get held at knife point.

"It was nothing, I'm Tamie by the way," I replied, holding my hand.

"David," He said, shaking my hand.

"Say ugh David you wouldn't happen to know any good hotels around here would you? Or even a cheap apartment?" I asked, slinging my bag onto my back.

"As a matter of fact, I'm staying in an apartment complex that's pretty cheap, and I know they still have some openings. I could show you where it's at," He suggested, smiling at me.

"Well lead the way then," I replied, smiling back.

The two of us walked out of the alley and moved towards the hotel David was staying at…

~(^.^)~

One Week Later

David had not only helped me get a hotel room, but he'd also helped me get a job at this small hospital he'd been working at. He'd been working as a janitor, and I managed to get a job as a secretary. Since David and I were both staying at the same hotel we would walk to and from work together every day. We'd talk about all sorts of things, and we'd become fast friends. I still got the feeling like I knew him from somewhere and it was driving me absolutely crazy.

"How's it going over there?" David asked. I glanced up from the file in front of me and smiled.

"Boring! This day couldn't possibly go by any slower," I remarked. David snorted at that and shook his head.

"Well, seven will come soon enough. Ya just have to be patient," He replied, sweeping his mop across the floor.

Honestly I hated sitting behind a desk filing paper work, but it was a job that paid, so I endured it. I'd mention to David at some point my absolute loathing for sitting behind a desk and he'd just laughed.

"Hey at least you get to be up moving around. I'm stuck here behind this desk," I muttered, pouting.

"Oh, come on it's not that bad," He replied, once again shaking his head, a smirk playing on his face.

"My legs have fallen asleep, I can't feel my toes, and my fingers hurt from typing. It's bad. I'd rather be up moving around than sitting in a chair," I deadpanned.

David laughed at that, and I couldn't help but laugh with him. The rest of our shift seemed to go by a little bit faster after that, and eventually I was sitting on my bed looking through some of the newspaper articles I'd collected on the hulk. Since becoming like 'John Doe' my interest in the hulk had grown. I wanted to know how 'John' had first become the Hulk.

I sighed and grabbed one of the newspapers on the bottom of the pile and froze the instant I saw what was printed on it.

HULK KILLS TWO

Bellow that headline was a granny out of focus picture of the Hulk, a picture of a woman, and a picture of a man. The man who just happened to be David. That's why I felt like I knew him from somewhere, he's David Banner! But he's supposed to be dead?! Why would he pretend to be dead… unless… he's the hulk?! Holy shit! I jumped up off my bed and raced out of my room. I raced over to David's door and banged on the door.

"Hold on I'm coming!" David shouted from inside. A moment later the door opened and I stared at him wide eyed.

"Tamie what is? There a fire or something?" He joked.

"I was going through some old stuff of mine and I happened to find this," I mumbled, holding out the old paper.

David frowned for a second and took the paper from my hand. He glanced over the paper and his eyes went wide, and his face paled. Again impulsive, I'd just rushed over here to confront him about this without really thinking about what I would say to him. I knew how he felt, and seeing this was bound to shock and scare him. He'd been hiding for a while now, and here I am just shoving a paper with his face and real name on it into his face.

He glanced up at me worry written all over his face. He glanced around us for a second before pulling me into his room and shut the door. He was breathing heavily and he looked like he was about to have a panic attack.

"Tamie I…"

Before he could say anything else I cut him off.

"David take a deep breath, calm down before you pass out."

"How can I calm down? You know…"

He turned around to face the door for a second then glanced back at me. Suddenly he rushed past me and grabbed his duffle bag and started shoving his clothes into it.

"David stop, it's okay. I'm not going to tell anyone. Just sit down and breath for a minute, and when you've calmed down we can talk about this," I stated, taking a step towards him.

I gently pulled the duffle bag out of his hands as he sat down on the bed. He took a few deep breaths before he glanced up at me as I knelt down in front of him.

"I'm sure you've got some questions," He said.

"Maybe not as many as you'd think. I figured out on my own that you're the guy that turns into the Hulk," I replied. He looked surprised at this.

"What it wasn't that hard to figure out. The hulk shows up. You supposedly die because of the hulk, and you let everyone think that you really are dead. You wouldn't let people think that unless you had a really good reason," I said, answering his unasked question. He smiled and shook his head at that.

"The only thing I don't understand is how you got this way," I stated.

I had an idea, but I wanted to be sure, so David told me about how he first became the hulk, from his wife's death to him experimenting on himself. And it turns out I was right in my theory, it had to do with gamma radiation. He seemed surprised at how well I was taking all this, and how I'd figured it all out so quickly.

"Have you watched the news recently? Or read a paper about a week or so ago?" I asked.

He sat there for a few minutes thinking, before he seemed to remember something.

"I remember seeing something in a paper. An earthquake that destroyed a medical research lab. A group of college kids where there on a field trip, two of them died…" He muttered. I watched him as he started to put the pieces together.

"You're Tamie Scott the girl who supposedly died during that earth quake in Maryland," David stated. I nodded my head.

"Yup. And take one guess as to what they were working with in that lab," I replied. He stared at me wide eyed.

"Gamma radiation," He said.

"Bingo! I'm in the same boat as you. I was exposed to a lot of gamma radiation that day. I don't really remember much after the ceiling fell on me. The next thing I knew I was sitting in the woods wearing torn up clothes," I explained.

The two of us sat there talking for a couple hours. David told me about his first few weeks on the run after the hulk made his first appearance. I told him about my trek from Baltimore to here. Eventually we both got tired and decided to call it quits for the night. I went back to my room and laid down on my bed…
