Inuyasha/Harry Potter crossover

Chapter 16

Harry tugged Ron's sleeve as he dragged him to the library to meet Hermione. Apparently, Hermione was very excited and persistent for them to meet her at the library during lunch time. She sounded really excited to tell us about what she found on Kagome Higurashi. He wondered how she pulled that off 'cause the last time they met, she said that she found nothing on her, which was odd because everyone leaves a trace of the past…right?

"Hey guys, wait up!"

Harry stopped and looked back. "Oh, hey Souta."

"Oh, hey, Souta." Ron said, looking slightly nervous. Harry mentally slapped himself. Ron may be his best friend but he's bad at covering up for, well, anything. That's why he'd leave that up to Hermione or himself.

Souta stared at the two. He had a feeling something was up but wasn't sure if he should ask them or not. He didn't want to sound crazy. Looking around, he noticed someone, who he actually was hoping to meet, missing.

"Hey, guys. Oh, where's Hermione?" he asked, partially concerned. He always saw the trio together so not seeing her with them was odd.

Ron and Harry exchanged looks. Both of them actually thought Hermione had talked to him when she ran off this morning.

"We don't know. We haven't seen her since she…Wait, she didn't talk to you this morning?" Harry asked.

Souta shook his head. "Um, no, I never talked with her. Why?"

Ron gave him half a glare as he replied. "She ran off to look for you after that incident with your sister this morning." Ron jumped when he felt Harry pinch him. Looking at Harry, he mouthed a 'what.'

Souta's face lit up with curiosity. "Oh, really, did she now? Well, actually, I'm kind of looking for her to so do you know where she might be? Where she hangs out during lunch time?"

By this time, Ron's face froze. This was not going good in his favor. He had a really bad feeling about this.

"Actually we do. She was on her way to the Great Hall. If she's not there, she must be at the common room." Harry replied, nodding at every word that came out of his mouth.

"Awesome! Thanks, see you guys later!"

Right when Souta was out of sight, Ron turned towards Harry, hot air shooting from his ears. "Are you mad, Harry?! You know how I feel about her. I told you everything there is to know! How could you do that to me?! I have a really bad feeling about this."

Harry waved his hands in front of him defensively. "I'm so sorry, Ron but I had to do it. I had to get him off our trail, besides, Hermione told us to meet us at the library at lunch time. Besides, Souta's going to the Great Hall and he can't go into the girls common room, remember? So, by the time he figures out that Hermione is nowhere to be found, it'll be too late to find us again. See, don't worry, Ron, Hermione is out of reach for him, at least that's what you wanted."

Ron rolled his eyes and pouted, "but what about that thing Souta wanted to ask Hermione?! I can't – "

"Who wanted to ask me what?"

Harry and Ron were both startled by an amused voice, so both turned around and met…

"Hermione…" both said in unison.

Hermione's eyebrows curved upwards in suspicion as she stepped forward with her herbology and DADA books in her hands. "So, tell me, who wanted to ask me what?" she said, staring at both of them but mostly glancing towards Ron's way.

Ron looked at Hermione then Harry, back to Hermione then Harry, this went on for quite some time before he snapped out of it.

"I, uh, wanted, yeah, to, uh, ask you…"

"Yes, Ron?" Hermione looked at the red head.

He cleared his throat, "…for your spell book Snapes class, yeah, uh, you see, I need to go over a few notes, but, uh, I forgot mine, uh, at, um, Hagard's place, but I'm too lazy to get it, besides he's probably busy…"

Hermione's face immediately dropped into a deep frown and disappointment. After all this time, why does she still expect him to ask her to the bloody Yule ball? She can't say she wasn't extremely disappointed…again, but she'll have to deal with it later and move on to more pressing subjects.

Harry shook his head as he glanced at Hermione.

Hermione straightened her coat and cleared her throat before speaking up, "Well, if there isn't anything important to talk about, I suggest we move on to more pressing subjects, for example," she whispered, "Kagome Higurashi."

She stepped back. "Now, obviously, we can't talk here so let's go to the library, where I was waiting impatiently for you dorks. C'mon, let's go."

"R-right, let's go, Ron." Harry said, motioning for Ron to follow.

"Oh and Ron, you are such a terrible liar." Hermione rolled her eyes as she turned to lead the way to the library.

At the library

"Can you two please say something already?"

Hermione whispered as she looked at Harry and Ron, who were currently staring at her dumbfounded. She finished revealing what she found on one Kagome Higurashi. So, they've been staring at her for almost five freaking minutes. Honestly, if they weren't in the library, she would've wacked their heads with something.

Ron sat there, looking at harry and then back to Hermione. He honestly didn't know what to say.

Harry blinked. Again. And again. And again. He exhaled heavily before leaning forward. "So, you mean to tell me she battled demons the size of…I don't know, 4 story buildings?"

"Yes," she replied confidently.

"Pst, that seems impossible, if you ask me."

Hermione turned to the red-head, who folded his hands and scoffed at her. "Are you saying that I am lying, Ronald Weasley?"

He immediately looked at her, shaking his head, "N-n-no, o-f course not, Hermione. I would never…" he said, raising his voice defensively. This earned a warning shush from the librarian.

Ron stared apologetically towards the librarian before turning to Hermione. He was about to apologize again but her attention was already back on the book she had laid out in front of her. Oh, just his luck.

"It also says here that the girl was in love with a half-demon named Inuyasha, who was in love with someone else. His former dead lover, Kikyo….Kikyo…" she murmured, turning the pages of a book, "Ah, right here, let's see, Kikyo was the former guardian the sacred jewel shard. She was revived by a witch, who used part of the girl's soul to do so. How sad."

Harry and Ron looked at each other than at Hermione. "Um, Hermione, don't mind me asking, but why is that sad? I mean, she did help her friend get his former lover back…"

Hermione groaned, rolling her eyes as she stared at the two clowns she called her best friends.

"Ugh, you two may be my best friends but you two are clearly insensible sometimes," she cleared her throat before continuing, "It is sad because it was unrequited love. Her love was never returned by the half-demon, Inuyasha. Everything that she did for all of them, for him, it was never for herself, really. She did it because she loved him very much. But it wasn't meant to be. You see, Harry and Ron, he left her for the former lover, Kikyo and she accepted that fact. How painful it must've been for her, how lonely…"

"But Hermione, she accepted that fact…" whispered the red-head, still not understanding what she said.

"Yes, but think about how she must've felt about it. She sacrificed her soul, her future and family because she loved him. This girl, she chose to stay with him because she had hoped that he would one day love her, not because she expected him to. You know when I read the book, I thought he loved her because he made it seem like he chose her already. I guess not."

By the end of her explanation, she was a bit teary eyed. Harry and Ron didn't know what to do. Ron was debating whether to hug her and tell her it's okay but he couldn't find the courage to do it. While Hermione wiped her tears, she laughed weakly. "I'm sorry, guys," she whispered.

Harry grabbed her hand. "There's nothing wrong with crying, Hermione. It's okay." Smiling at Harry, she squeezed his hand as a 'thank you.' Hermione pulled her hand back and regained herself.

"Anyways, the book ends where the group walks back to the village they reside in named edo. There's no indication whether she was with them or if she left. Nothing at all."

Ron looked uncertain. "But, how do we know if it's actually her? Is there evidence? If we were to confront her, we have to have evidence or else we'll look like complete idiots!"

Hermione grinned cleverly. "Well, Ron, thank merlin I have the answer to your question. This is where it gets very interesting," She reached inside her bag, brought out something and held it against her chest as her free hand turned the pages of the book.

"Aha, here we go," she placed what looked to be an old photograph down next to the book and turned it towards them. "Now you tell me if this is enough evidence to not make us look like idiots."

The photograph that Hermione had brought out was actually an old photo of Kagome in her uniform, smiling alongside a young Souta. When she put that old photograph next to a painted picture of the traveling companions at the end of book, it looked like she never aged one bit. She may have matured physically but the resemblance was still strong enough that anyone could tell that it's the same person.

"OH MY MERLIN!" Harry and Ron yelled in unison. The librarian looked at them disapprovingly. "What did I say about 'shush'? I suggest you keep it down or I'll have to report you to Ms. McGonagall."

"I'm so sorry." Hermione apologized.

Hermione glared at the two. She had never ever gotten in trouble in the library before. This was her favorite place to be. That's it, this'll be the last time she'll ever come in here with these two.

Harry leaned back into his chair, completely dumfounded at the evidence before him. Obviously, it was more than he expected, much, much more. Now he had to figure out their next step.

"Hermione, where did you find the book?"

She also leaned back into her chair. "Well, I found the book in the restricted section and out of all the books, this one had a special enchantment. I managed to break the enchantment by reading a special unlocking spell I found in one of the books in the restriction section. It was a bit difficult to read a spell in a foreign language but it was worth it."

"And the picture? How'd you get it? It looks familiar actually…" Ron asked, taking a closer look.

Harry and Hermione looked at each other. Harry said, "I, uh, took it from Souta when he left early for class the other day."

The red head looked between the two. What the heck did he just hear? Ron shook his head violently. "How could you, Harry? If Souta finds out you took his picture without asking him, he's going to get mad at you, at all of us…!"

Hermione leaned forward. "Calm down, Ron, I needed a picture from him for comparison and besides, I'll have Harry return the picture before Souta notices that he's missing his picture, alright?"

Gosh, although he relaxed a bit, he was still tense. His friends must be mental to go to such lengths to prove this, but thinking about it, they've done worse things…right?

Ron leaned further into his chair. "Ugh. Let's just hope Souta doesn't hate us for this."
