Disclaimer: Harry Potter isn't mine. Unfortunately. And this is an M&MWP, so credit goes to mew-tsubaki and Morghen.
Author's Note: Written for the Mew and Mor's Weird Pairings Forum, the Drabble Tag thread. Parvati/Zacharias, prompt 'uncool', for mew-tsubaki.
"You left," Parvati says, a dangerous glint in her eye as she advances toward Zacharias. He backs up, almost hitting the wall, holding his hands up in an effort to appear harmless - and to stop her from yelling at him. "You left the rest of the D.A. to fight the Death Eaters on our own. You know how many people died, Zach? You know how many underage students snuck back in? You know that there were thirteen and fourteen-year-olds a thousand times braver than you were?" She's not screaming, but she's close to it.
He nods, and although she looks ready to start on him again, Zach speaks before she can. "I know. I know I shouldn't have left. I just..." He shakes his head, staring over Parvati at the corridor they're standing in. One of the classroom doors has been blown out, and the splinters and wood pieces lie all over the floor. Compared to the rest of Hogwarts, this is in perfect condition. "Look, I know I was a coward. It was uncool, what I did. It wasn't right. And I know I shouldn't have abandoned the rest of the D.A."
Especially you, his mind adds, but he doesn't say it. This isn't the right time to bring up questions of 'Are we still together?' He wants them to be - he loves Parvati, and it seemed like she loved him too - but somehow he doubts that their relationship will carry over to now. Parvati's siding with the D.A. over him, and while he can understand her motivations, for she was always more invested in it than he was, he doesn't fully appreciate it.
"Damn right," Parvati says. "You were an uncool coward who abandoned us all." The previous fire is gone, though, and she doesn't look as angry anymore. Displeased, disgruntled - yes. But not furious, and Zach silently rejoices. "I'd invite you down to see the others, but I don't know if they'd want to see you."
"They probably wouldn't," he replies, shaking back the mental image of some of the wilder D.A. members ganging up on him. "So why don't you stay up here instead?"
Parvati simply stares at him for a moment, her mouth slightly open as if she can't believe he said that. "For a little while," she says finally, slightly grudgingly, and Zach can't help but smile.
