Chapter 2
By the time Juliea reached the Obelisk blue arena, she was panting hard. As she walked into the arena, Jaden's voice echoed into the empty space. He was speaking about Syrus, and it seemed to have fallen on deaf ears, as the two other voices drowned him out at every moment that could be said.
The moment she stepped behind Jaden, causing him tk whip around in shock, the two lackeys paused, surprise in their eyes.
"Juliea! How'd you get here?"
"You forgot this." She said, amusement in her voice as Jaden swiped his phone from her possession.
It was then that the one Juliea had been waiting for entered the scene. The boy smirked, grey eyes sparkling with a challenge as he saw Juliea.
"Princess! How fortunate to see you! Rumor came about that this boy is your brother." He chuckled lightly, a hand going through his ebony hair. "You're in for such a treat! Are you ready to watch him lose?"
Juliea narrowed her eyes. "Thing is, Chazz, he won't. And he's not fighting alone. I wanna duel you, too."
Chazz snorted. "You ready to lose your favorite card, too? What about your reputation? Losing to me? Oh honey, wouldn't that damage you, too? Yugi would be upset, wouldn't he? His little pupil damaged before she even left this little island! Ha! Headlines would be amazing!"
Juliea rolled her eyes. "You ready or not?"
Chazz snapped his fingers, and a lackey came forward.
"He's fighting, too. Makes it fair." He shrugged. "His deck isn't that great but I highly doubt you'll be able to break through his defenses. Are you two ready?"
The twins nodded.
Chazz grinned. "Good. It's time to duel!"
"I Declare an attack, my target is your remaining life points. Now Dark Dragon, take him out!" Her black dragon brought its head back, opening its maw and let the fire char the lackey, scorching his remaining 500 life points. As it went to zero, she glanced at Jaden's duel. As he drew a card, an unexpected female voice reverberated over the arena, leading everyone to pause. Who's that? She thought, taking the precaution to take away her dueling disk in efforts to keep herself from being caught in the fight.
It was Alexis, another one of the blues. Sternly, she was goaded Chazz into leaving-and to Juliea's surprise, Chazz relented. Even if somewhat begrudgingly.
Once the blues left, Juliea turned to Alexis, studying her features. Blonde hair, yellow eyes… She was studying in the off chance she needed to pinpoint her for later, in the case things went south if tattle-tale or otherwise. She wouldn't be afraid to blackmail if necessary.
Juliea smiled softly then said, "Thank you for coming when you did, Alexis. Who knows what would've happened if it were somebody else."
Alexis looked at Juliea then she shrugged in response. "Whatever. You, of all people, should know not to be out like this. I was just protecting my own team."
Juliea rolled her eyes. Of course. Snobby as always. As if she didn't deal with her enough beforehand. "What was the card you drew?" She asked, switching focus as Jaden looked at the card, smiling to himself. He flipped it over, revealing what it was. The card was Monster Reborn.
The next morning was hell. Fired up, Juliea hadn't gotten a lot of sleep. She was thinking about what could've happened if Alexis didn't intervene, what her brother would've even done, what card would've been revived. It all made her swell up with excitement. But for now, until her lunch break could commence, she was stuck in a boring classroom she had forced herself to attend. She chose to be here, something the teachers advised against seeing as she knew everything beforehand, and now, seeing that her brother was here, she could hardly wait to get out of the classroom.
The bell rang and she swiftly got out of her seat, ready to start the lunch break with her brother.
"I can't believe this early into the semester and I have a love note!"
It was the first thing Juliea overheard and the most suspicious. The person in question to exclaim it was Syrus, the person who gave her an odd vibe, not one of repulsion or anything, however, upon their first meeting, she questioned how he got a love note. Jaden didn't seem too enthused, opting to eat his lunch in peace as Syrus gushed about what the note said, and more importantly, upon whom had written it to him in the first place.
"Alexis?" Juliea chimed in. "Really? Have you two even met?"
"That's the beauty of love, isn't it?" Syrus said, gushing. "I've only seen her in the hallways, and we share a class together, and I guess it was just meant to be! She must've noticed how hard I was studying for the test last week! I knew she couldn't handle my studious charm!" He was growing more and more egotistical, boasting and babbling to himself.
"Uh-huh." Juliea said, unconvinced. "I think it was meant for the wrong person."
Her mind jumped to the events of last night. She did linger around Jaden for a bit last night before they had left the arena, and she was a lot more open to what Jaden had said in regards to conversation-Alexis was always distant when it came to Juliea, herself-and suddenly, she narrowed her eyes, grasping the note and read it aloud.
"From the first time I saw you, I was in love with you and I really want to see you again! Meet me at the girls dormitory at midnight. I'll see you then!" She gave the letter back, nodding to Syrus. "Yup, it sounds like it's for you alright." She lied sweetly, glancing over at Jaden. "I really hope it goes well for you!" She said, watching as Syrus jumped out of his chair and raced along giddily with the note in his arms.
"Hey, Jay," Juliea asked, knowing that he wasn't listening to the letter reading. "You think we can drop by at Alexis's dorm later tonight? I wanna wish her gratitude for saving us, and I really think she'd love it if you were there."
"Yeah, okay. Sounds like fun!"
Juliea smiled. Time to see what's really going on. Hopefully Syrus doesn't become too much like fodder in the plan. She shrugged to herself. The only thing that matters is Jaden, and seeing how the meet-up was the same as yesterday, I can't wait to spoil Chazz's plans.
She was ready to count down the minutes.
