If they had been told this was what awaited them when they joined the class, they never would have agreed. Chaos had erupted around them, the clang of metal echoing through the air. The scent of blood filled their nostrils. Roars and growls echoed in their ears as the familiars attacked Moreau. Insane laughter emerged as Nocte pinned Uriel down, shadows tearing chunks out of the angel as they screamed.
Mizuki growled and whistled to get the classes attention. "You lot need to leave here now. It isn't safe for anyone if they are out." She ordered.
"What about Moreau?!" Cassie demanded. "We can't just leave him!"
"Those demons will tear him apart before you can get near him. Leave him." Mizuki said. Cassie growled, flipping her off before she turned and ran towards the familiars. Drake and Ryan glanced at each other before quickly following. Before Mizuki could give chase, a thick arm of shadows slammed down into the ground between them. She backed away as darkness seeped into the soil.
"Mizuki!" Rin yelled over the chaos. "Get them outta here! Get them back to the academy!" He called, dodging a jet of purple flames that shot past him.
"Mephisto set up barriers! If ya can get the kids behind it, they will be safe!" Shura added, slashing at a small wendigo that tried to attack her. Mizuki nodded and signalled to the class. But before they could move, exorcists blocked their path. Samael stepped forward and pointed at Astarte, her still form glowing with purple flames.
"Now is your chance." He said. "If you finish her off, not only will you be rid of the Outcast and Nocte but I will take control of Gehenna." He said. The exorcists glanced at each other before taking aim.
"She is your wife!" Emiko yelled suddenly. She stormed to the front of the group, nearly matching Samael in height. "Have you no loyalty?!"
"Of course he doesn't." Mizuki growled. "All he has ever cared about is himself."
"He resents her. You can smell it on him." Ron suddenly said. "But why?"
"Because she took the throne." Yuki answered.
"Because she is Satan's favourite." Amixtri added.
"Oh, very good." A voice said. The class turned to see Nocte floating above them. "Do ya wanna know the main reason why?" She asked. "He is terrified of her. Because he knows what she is capable of." She said. She landed and got up in his face. "You never gave a damn about her or the kid did you?"
"And why should that matter to you?" Samael countered.
"Because I know what it is like." Nocte snarled. "But I also know that there are few who would stoop as low as you." She added.
"What do you mean?" Shiemi shouted. Nocte paused.
"It isn't my place to say. Let the little one tell you when she wakes up." She said. She turned back to the exorcists. "If you truly believe you are defenders of humanity, then you lot are gonna wanna go back behind that barrier and re-enforce it before she destroys it." She said. They paused as a loud crack echoed through the air.
They turned to see the barriers cracking like glass and crumbling to the ground. Everyone stopped at that moment, staring at the now unguarded town.
"Whoops. Too late." Nocte murmured. "I would move if I were you." She added, flying up. Mizuki glanced behind them.
"Move now!" She yelled at the class, diving to one side. The class dove away, watching as purple flames and shadows raced past. They tore through the exorcists, casting them aside like they were paper. They immediately rushed towards the town.
"What now?" Meiko asked. Mizuki shook her head. But before she could answer, a wendigo leapt on her back, biting into her. It's eyes glowed as it tore into her shoulder. Demons charged past, heading to the town. The few left continued to attack Moreau, biting and clawing at him. Baphomet moved towards Astarte, knocking exorcists aside.
"Meiko. Start making wormholes." Leon suddenly said. "We need to start leading people out of the town." He ordered. "Emiko, I need you to summon as many water dragons as you can. Anyone else who can use water should go with her to put the fires out. Those who are full demons, move with the other demons, try to guide them away from the residents. Everyone else, we need to guide the people out of the city and away from the demons and fire." He said. They all nodded and began to run towards the town. As they moved, Outcast appeared beside Nocte.
"Well, that is a interesting course to take." She murmured. Nocte nodded.
"She left them neutral. Never tried to force a particular side on them. But why?" Nocte murmured. She glanced to the side and saw Jen holding Sora and Chikyuu to one side. The two boys both stared at their mother, her blood staining the ground and Amaimon's arms. "You know something about those boys don't you?" She asked suddenly.
"Let's just say that, biology was never going to alter much for demons and humans." Outcast replied.
"Are you ever not cryptic?"
"Nope." Outcast glanced at Uriel, the angel being helped back to heaven by Michael. "But now Heaven will get involved. Things are about to change. We are entering the end game." She said.
"So, who will win? And what about us?" Nocte asked.
"No spoilers." Outcast replied simply. She turned and looked at Astarte. "But a trump card has yet to be revealed. And all the pieces are yet to fall into place. There are still those with a role to play." Nocte raised an eyebrow.
"You sound like some character in a rpg." She said.
"There are worse things. Come on, you go keep an eye on those lot. I will check upon the little one." Outcast said. Nocte nodded and flew off towards the town. Outcast watched her silently. "Yes. Things are about to get very interesting." She murmured.
