The fall really was terrifying. I would tell you that it wasn't- that I didn't fear for our lives- but that wouldn't be true. In all honesty as we fell to what was probably our last moments, black mist appeared and before I could say anything, or even try to fight it off, I was somewhere else. Somewhere other than the compartment. My stomach dropped. If I was safe, where my friends?

I glanced around, half expecting to be dead. Perhaps the black mist was just something of my imagination- something that I really wasn't able comprehend. If I was dead, and my friends thought I hated them… Tears filled my eyes. How could I have let them think that? It wasn't fair that i'd taken my anger out on them when it was really Remus who I was angry at. He hadn't trusted me… us.. he hadn't trusted his friends. If we're true friend, he should have know we'd stand by him.

But, then again, I guess it was a fair fear; especially after I started to ignore him and the gang. Why had I been so hurt? Why had I not just treated him like I had all year- just like a friend. I wasn't a great friend and I should have realized it sooner. I was just started to make up with Lily and Severus as well; they were my friends first. I bet they knew me more than I even knew myself. Or, at least, they probably had until we started Hogwarts.

I took a deep breath, trying to force back the hysteria. It wasn't working all that well for me. I didn't want to dead. I didn't want to think about being dead. Was I in hell for doing something I wasn't aware I did?

As I looked around, I actually took in the surroundings, it was a nice; rich. Like the Potters' only… there was something that wasn't quite as warm as their house. There was something darker, a dark undertone to something that looked so… normal. Like it was supposed to be there, but at the same time it wasn't. It was a strange paradox.

I jumped as someone came around the corner, probably to welcome me to hell.

I was in hysteria. My throat tightened and I couldn't breathe. As the person turned the corner, I saw black, wild, hair. It was a female, maybe in their early twenties. I attacked, not getting a good look at the woman.

Next thing I knew? I was waking up in a lavish bed, not unlike the one I'd slept in over the break.

(Remus POV)

Remus felt something tug at the center of his soul when he saw that only two people from the compartment Rose had been in, Rose not being on of them. When the news was delivered to him, the soon-to-be twelve year old felt like he was going to suffocate. Worst case scenario was that she dead. The girl who had pushed him to take a chance. To tell his friends.

They took it better than he'd thought they would. Well, mostly. Sirius had made some jokes and James had piped in occasionally. The only thing was.. he knew they were hurt, like Rose had been. They were just better at hiding it than she was. Remus knew she was just hurt that she'd been lied to when she'd asked what was wrong with him a couple days after one of the full moons.

James had been hellbent on finding Rose and making sure she knew Remus had something very important to tell him, not realizing she already knew. Despite how much he'd protested, it fell on deaf ears. 'is this how Rose felt earlier this year when Sirius and James insisted on calling her Rosie?' he'd thought grudgingly.

He knew James had found her- that girl was good at avoiding people even when they were in over half of their classes together. After James had found her, he'd come back gloomy.

"She didn't want to talk to you. She didn't want to talk to me." James had said, sounding hurt and worried.

"Rose'll talk to us again.. soon.. I hope." Sirius had said, his voice hopeful and doubtful. It was like he had a hard time deciding if Rose was ever going to talk to them again. He shot a glance over at Remus, the look said that he was silently wondering what had gone down between the pair.

She'd probably had her suspicions at that time, but he didn't understand why he wasn't confronted until they were almost finished with their Christmas break. The other two boys had noticed the tension between the two of them for the remainder of the trip and on the train and for the remainder of the year.

Remus let out a slight breath as he gently placed his trunk on his bed. His thoughts.. well, he assumed he'd looked like someone who wasn't even close to living in the world their physical body was. His parents had forgiven him for that, knowing that one of his best friend was probably dead.

Which began a whole on slaughter of questions. Why was Lily and Severus- he was thankful they were alive- the only two was saved? Where had Rose been? If she was alive, why weren't they looking for her. The Hogwarts express doesn't just lose a cabon and roll over an edge. It's charmed in a way that gives it more stability and safety than a regular one.

They hadn't said if there had been a body or if there hadn't been. He hoped for the best; that she'd somehow saved herself. That thought caused him to question if they'd actually known Rose or if she was a really great actress. With thoughts spinning around in his head, he began to slowly unpack his school supplies.

"Remus! Dinner'll be done soon- I hope you're presentable." a soft, familiar, voice came from outside of his room. He let out a sigh.

"Yes, Mother." he said grudgingly before preparing for the only family dinner they'd probably have over the course of the summer. He loved his parents, but sometimes he felt like they were keeping him on a leash ('no pun intended.' he thought with a sigh, surprised to feel a flash of bitterness).

A few minutes later, the three of them were seated at the table and being served by the house-elf, Kiwis. The elf was older than most of them but surprising just as fast, if not faster, in completing his duties.

"How do you think you did on your end-of-year tests?" his father asked. He sounded like he didn't expect a good response from his son.

The twelve year old fought against the urge to roll his eyes at his father's tone. "I think I did rather well." he replied, keeping his tone neutral. In all honesty, he was sure he and his friends had gotten top marks for the Gryffindor house. That feat wouldn't've been that difficult, since most Gryffindors' didn't care about their marks. They prided themselves on being brave, at least most of them did.

Brave to the point of being reckless. There were only a few Pure-blood families who had lines of descendants in Gryffindor, most going into Slytherin. One or two purebloods, occasionally ended up in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. Their families didn't enjoy that they hadn't been sorted into their family's chosen house, but it was never as scandalous as a Black ending up in Gryffindor.

"You think you did well? You should know if you did well or not." His father said with a scowl.

"If I could tell you with a hundred percent assurance, then I would." Remus replied, trying to keep his expression and tone passive.

"I don't believe you understand the significance of you being able to attend Hogwarts in your... Condition."

"Father, I do know that it's a leap of faith for you to even allow me to go. You don't have to worry. While I may get into trouble quite a bit by association you don't have to worry about my grades."

And with that, the conversation ended and Remus let out a breath he had been holding. It was an awkward silence as the meal continued.

"What about that girl, Rosalie, are you still talking to her?" His mother asked.

After a few seconds of silence the young wolf sighed again. "Of course, Mum, the school year was a blast with her, James, and Sirius."

She nodded approvingly. "Perhaps you could invite your friends over sometime during the summer."

Remus paused. 'That'd be a great idea. Except.. We don't know what happened to Rose.. She probably wouldn't want to come over anyways, even if she wasn't missing.'

Instead of saying his thoughts, he smiled and nodded, like it was the best idea ever. "That's great idea, mum! Maybe we could all go to Diagonally together. I don't think Rose went with anyone last year. She said her mum was pretty grumpy. The day I met Rose and the day you met her." It was a lie, a little lie, but it wasn't anything big. Hopefully his mother wouldn't question it.

His father snorted quietly, almost quiet enough that they didn't hear. "Muggles." He said in a disguised whisper.

The next morning there was a shocked gasp as his mother read the Daily Propert. "Remus! Why didn't you tell me Rosalie was missing?!" She said in horror as she continued to read the article.

"There wasn't anytime to tell you." He replied with a sly smile. There had been time, but he'd figured it would be in the Newspaper sometime.

A month had passed with no news of Rose or her whereabouts, it worried him to no end. If she was dead, he'd never forgive himself. It might not have been his fault, but they could have pestered her more to sit with them.

The summer got a lot better the moment James and Sirius arrived at the Lupin's house. It was a bit smaller than they were used too, but it was homy nonetheless.

As the trio settled in Remus's room Sirius loudly sighed and said: "living a month at home is hell. Mum's refusing to play with the idea that she has a gryffindor living in her house. It's like I don't exist!" He was making wild hand gestures to emphasize his words.

Remus felt sorry for his friend.

"Oi! No swearing in this house young man!" Came an annoyed female voice from down the hall. Remus snorted at his mum's words. Of course she didn't know the voices of his two friends, but she did know when someone was swearing. She'd learn their voices eventually.

Sirius pretended like he hadn't heard her, though shock did register on his face.

"You weren't exactly quirt, Sirius." James said with a sarcastic snort. "Remus's mum can probably hear everything we say."

"Not everything. Only if you speak loudly." Came Remus's whisper. "Besides, good practice for prank making, eh?"

James and Sirius visibly brightened at the proposal of going to school with a list of pranks.

The young Potter looked thoughtful before a smirk stretched across his face. "Perhaps we should focus more this year on the Slytherins than the school as a whole."

"Going with an assumption that Rose'll be found by the time school starts.. Perhaps we should prank her. She needs to loosen up." Sirius said darkly.

Remus froze at his friends dark tone. He hasn't thought Sirius was all that... Serious when it came to harmless pranks. He remembered the day Sirius had decided that if Rose didn't want to talk to them, then he wouldn't talk to her, even if she did start to reach out to them.

James agreed with the young Black, though Remus only knew from the expression on his face. Even he, Remus, agreed, no matter how much it pained him. Perhaps if he'd actually talked to her that day, he wouldn't be feeling so much guilt.

Flashback

"Remus? James? Sirius?" Came a soft, female, voice. It was a voice of someone who hadn't talked to them, or anyone else, in months. Well, she'd talked to James for about a minute.

Remus had to admit, the girl was good at avoiding her friends even when they had over half their classes together.

Something about her tone said that she was confused and somewhat hurt by something she'd probably just discovered.

Remus felt a flash of bitterness. 'She should feel pain.' He'd thought bitterly.

"I... I would like to..." She started to stutter before she stopped and took a deep breath. "I'm so sorry for..."

Remus looked up at her, slightly taken aback from the broken look in Rose's eyes. He kept his face passive before looking back down. She'd stopped because he'd looked up. Something in his eyes must've told her that they didn't want to hear it because she left shortly after.

"That girl has some nerve." Sirius huffed. "I don't get why we were even friends!"

"She knows. She knows about my ... Monthly change." Remus said.

The two other boys looked shocked. "How? You two haven't spoken since Christmas?" It came out as more of a question than an accusation.

Remus nodded, as he continued working. "She was.. The one who discovered it first.. She was quite hurt. I ... It might have been from selfish reasons that I let you two know." He whispered. "I didn't want to lose anymore friends."

James and Sirius glanced at each other before glancing at the door. Guilt in their expression.

"That still doesn't give her the right to be so.. Cold!" James exclaimed, his voice cold.

"Hey guys." Came the voice of another boy. Peter Pettigrew. Another first year.

The serious conversation died after Peter showed up.

End flash back

Remus let out sigh as he realized he hadn't invited Peter. The other two didn't seem to notice that he wasn't here, however, so he decided not to say anything.

The summer passed rather quickly, the trio just hang in out. James and Sirius had spent their summer with Remus, each bouncing between James and Remus's house before the day their letters arrived.

The trip to Diagon alley was much faster than the previous years. Only needing a few more books, supplies, and robes before their shopping was done.

After that, they promptly went to the quidditch store and begged for new booms.

That's when they saw a familiar brown almost black haired girl. She moved slowly through the crowd, someone else with her.

"When was Rose found? Why didn't we hear about it?" James said miserably.

Sirius shrugged. "Maybe she didn't want us to know."

"Or maybe that isn't Rose. See? She's taller and her eyes are blue. She must be at least of fourth year."

"I've never seen her anywhere at Hogwarts." Sirius snorted.

The mysterious girl met Remus's eyes and he was taken aback from the hope and recionization in her eyes. She turned away and said something to the person she was with before the pair made their way over.

"That's Bellatrix." Sirius said with a sigh just as the two arrived.

"Hello." Came the blue eyed girl. "My name... I guess you could say is.. R-" she cut herself off as Bellatrix shot a sharp look her way. "... Mira Black. I'll be heading into my.. S- fourth year."

Sirius and James let out a gasp as they heard the name of his lost cousin.

Remus gazed at the girl, wondering why she was having such a hard time talking to them.

"Hogwarts doesn't take new students, even if they were homeschooled and they are pureblood."

"The.. Headmaster... Made an eexception for me.." she sounded like it was forced. Like she was lying and, while he name was Mira, she'd been going by something else and she'd just learned about who she really was.

"She won't be attending this year- we need to ceatch her up on what she's missed." Bellatrix said with narrowed eyes.

'Perhaps we do know her. Her tone, when she'd just came over, sounded a bit like Rose's..' he said thoughtfully.

"Come along, Mira, we must be heading to get your wand. Wouldn't want to be seen socializing with a blood-traitor and a half-blood, now would we?"

Mira nodded, thought it sounded like she didn't want to. "Of course, sister." she said and the pair turned away and made their way to Ollivander's Wand shop.

"Did anyone else get the feeling that we … knew her already?" Remus said thoughtfully.

"I was almost six when she wen't missins." Sirius sighed. "She was the only one of our family who I thought was kinder. She didn't seem to care about what others thought of her, but she stayed loyal to her family. If she hadn't been taken… maybe she would've ended up in Gryffindor. But now? I think she'll end up in Slytherin, trying to please her family."

"Or maybe she's like you, Sirius, and wants to break away from tradition." James said.

Sirius shook his head. "I doubt it. She's been missing for almost eight years, James. She'll want to reconnect with her older sisters."

"Did you notice, Sirius, that she started to say that her name started with a R and that she started to say she was going into her second year?" Remus sighed, looking a bit annoyed. "if that's true than we do know her. All first years take the same courses, even if they're in different houses."

With that thought, they made a silent agreement. They would find out who Mira Black had been.

September 1, 1972

James and Sirius had gone to their respective homes for the summer, despite Remus complaining about how bored he'd be without them. His eyes brightened as he saw Rose. It'd been announced. shortly after meeting the mysterious Mira Black, that Rosalie Snow, second year Gryffindor, had been found. Though she didn't look tortured, she was quiet. Even when my Ministry had questioned her.

She'd refused to say anything or meet anyone's eyes. Eventually, they'd let her go and off she went to live with her Muggle parents. Apparently, even her Mother and Father hadn't gotten her to talk, though no one knew how hard they'd actually tried.

She was a bit famous, considering she'd been missing for most of the summer. Remus saw her pause as she gazed at the train, fear radiating off of her.

"Rose?" Remus had asked.

She'd turned around at her friend's words. She waved her hand in a small greeting as Remus made his way over to her. Sirius, James, and Peter, joined two shortly after. Rose still hadn't said anything and it took two of them to even get her on the blasted train. The other two had her stuff and where the ones keeping her on.

'Rose's fear of the train… it's understandable. Perhaps there's a way to not force her on? A different form of transportation maybe?'

The train ride was quiet, Peter wasn't as worried about the girl as the other three. They'd never seen her be quiet even if she'd been avoiding them. She'd at least talked to someone.

As the train neared Hogwarts the four boys had left to get changed, allowing Rose to change by herself. None of them thinking about what she could do while she was alone. After all, it would only be a couple minutes.

After they returned, however, they were shocked to find that she wasn't in the compartment. They didn't have time to search for her, however, because they'd arrived at Hogwarts. The four made their way off the train. Remus felt relieved that Rose was already off the train by the time they'd gotten off.

"Where'd you go, Rosie?" Sirius said, in an attempt to get her to at least react to something. She turned her head and gave a half hearted glare.

"Rosie is such a stupid nickname." she said with a soft sigh before turning quiet again. No matter how much they pestered her to talk more, she refused to.

'who choses to be quiet when they can talk?' Remus asked himself as the five of them sat for the feast. 'It's going to be an interesting year… that's for sure..'
