Secrets

As Angela left Maura's house with Cavanaugh, both in their undergarments, the doctor couldn't help but smile at the ridiculousness of the situation.

"Please tell me I'm asleep and that was a dream," Jane said.

She covered her mouth to stifle a laugh. The look on Jane's face was that of someone completely mortified by what just transpired. That look told Maura now was not the time to make light of what just happened.

"Oh my God," Jane said as she walked into Maura's kitchen looking for something to drink.

"That was certainly unexpected," the doctor said as she reached grabbed the bottle opener out of the drawer to pop the cap off Jane's beer.

"What the hell is she thinking?" Jane grumbled in between swigs of the cold, amber liquid.

"Jane, your mother needs…"

"Don't even go there, Maur. I don't want to hear about my mother's needs," Jane cut the doctor off.

Reaching for Jane's beer, Maura took a long draw from the bottle. Her eyes never leaving Jane's as she did so. The primal look in Jane's eyes as Maura swallowed was not lost on the honey blonde.

"She was in a slip, Maura! And my boss was in his underwear on your couch," Jane huffed.

"Look at us," was the response the detective got.

"Excuse me?"

"Look at us. You're in a cami, hon. The living room is lit by candlelight. How must we have looked to them?" Maura walked to the dining room table and pulled out a chair to sit on.

"But this is different and you know it," Jane said as she followed Maura and leaned against the table.

"How? Because we're having sex and they were merely making out?" Maura said with a completely straight face.

"Do NOT compare our…you know…to them. Please," the detective drained the rest of her beer and tilted her head back to stare at the ceiling.

"It's okay," Maura whispered as she placed her hand on Jane's thigh. "Everyone has their secrets."
