Ogre on campus Chapter 4- A delinquent, and a vampire walk into a bar...

Moka tossed and turned in her sleep, cold sweat trailing down her back. The moonlight filtered through her window, shining light on her pale face. Every breath was ragged, and short. Her blanket had fallen to the floor a long time ago. She was curled up in her bed, shivering like she was having a nightmare, but in this case it wasn't a nightmare.

It was a memory.

Three years ago at Kataka Junior High.

Moka squirmed in her seat, a nervous smile on her face. This was her first day at a human school, her first day around humans who were her own age. She'd seen enough movies and shows to know how you were supposed to act, but being out in the field was completely different. She fiddled with her fingers, watching as the rest of her classmates took their seats.

The door slid open, and a man entered the room. He had a bald spot on his head, covered by a few strands of hair combed over it. He coughed loudly to get their attention.

"Alright, class." He said, smiling. "My name is Takahara Subaru, but you guys can just call me Takahara-sensei, okay?" He wrote his name down on the board for all of them to see.

"Now, I thought we should start off the new school year by introducing ourselves to the rest of the class, so-" He squinted at the class sheet. "Akashiya-san, where are you?"

Moka's hand was trembling as she raised it. "H-here."

"Ah," he said, beaming at her. "How about you start us off?"

Moka gulped. She could feel everyone staring at her as she stood up, their gazes prickling her skin.

"M-My name's Akashiya Moka, and I was homeschooled before going here," she said in a shaky voice. "I like to read a lot in my freetime, and I really like tomatoes."

"Okay," Takahara-sensei said. "Is there anything else?"

"O-Oh, yes," Moka said. "I'm also a vampire."

For just a moment, the class was silent. Moka shifted her weight uneasily. Was it something she said?

Suddenly, Takahara-sensei started laughing, and just like that the class got the joke.

"Hahaha," Takahara-sensei chuckled, wiping a tear from his eye. "It's nice of you to break the tension for us like that, Akashiya-san. I really appreciate a student with a good sense of humor."

Moka frowned. "B-But I'm not-"

"You can take your seat now." Takahara-sensei looked at his list once more. "Now, Ayumi-san, where are you?"

Moka sat back down slowly, pulling at the edge of her skirt. She could feel tears welling up in her eyes. Why wouldn't anyone believe her? She was telling the truth? She really was a-

"-vampire?"

Moka blinked the tears away as she turned around. "What?"

Behind her sat a boy with sharp looking eyes. His mouth seemed to be set in a permanent scowl.

"I said, are you really a vampire?"

Moka rubbed at her eyes. "Y-Yeah, I am."

He seemed unconvinced. "Do you drink blood then?"

"S-Sometimes, but most of it's from blood packs," Moka said. "I've never drank any from a real human yet."

He nodded like he'd suspected this before. "Cool, so uh... your name's Akashiya Moka, right?"

Moka nodded. "Yes."

"That's kind of a weird name, isn't it? I mean, mocha? That's a drink, right?" Oga said.

Pink spots coloured Moka's cheeks. "I-It's not that weird. My oldest sister is name Akua, the next one's named Kahlua, and my youngest sister is Kokoa."

He stared at her. "You have a weird family."

Moka spluttered. "W-Well, what's your name then?"

He opened his mouth to answer when another name was called.

"Oga Tatsumi." Takahara-sensei read out.

He smirked at her for a second before raising his hand.

"Here."

Moka jolted awake, panting. She could feel the back of her nightgown, clinging to her wet skin. She felt sunlight hit her eye, and she winced, standing up to close her curtains. It was a good thing her dorm room was a single, otherwise someone might've seen her.

It had been a long time since she'd dreamed of... those times back then. She turned her head to look at a picture frame on her bedside table. On the photo was her, Kurumu, Tsukune, Yukari, and even Gin all gathered around in the clubroom.

Kurumu had been trying to shove her out of the way, so she could be next to Tsukune.

Gin was smiling, putting his arms around all of his juniors.

Yukari was in the front, making a peace sign around her eyes.

And there in the middle was Tsukune. Sweet, kind, Tsukune. Her best friend in the whole world, grinning sheepishly as two girls pulled him from side to side.

Moka smiled at it. This was her life now. She had friends she cared about, and who cared about her back. A lot of things had changed since those years.

But then the smile slipped off as she remembered a similar picture being there years ago. A picture of a dark-haired boy with a shark-like smirk, a white-haired boy grinning like an idiot, and a young pink-haired girl in the middle, smiling like she was surrounded by friends.

Things had definitely changed since then.

Oga stepped down from the bus, his bag slung over his shoulder. He stared at the grey skies, rumbling with thunder, and at the gnarled trees rising up from the ground like a skeleton's hand reaching for the sky

Yep, this seemed about right.

"Be careful in there, kid." the bus driver said, smoke rising from his cigar. "Youkai Academy is a scary place."

Oga scoffed, walking away. "I'll take my chances."

The man chuckled, a dark gravelly laugh. "Hehehe, your funeral"

The doors screeched closed, but Oga could still hear him laughing somehow as the bus drove away. Youkai Academy's main entrance was filled with students dressed in crisp green blazers. Any other day, and Oga would've been itching to test his skills against real live monsters, but right now he had bigger fish to fry.

Oga's face darkened. Now where was that-

"Oga-san!" A brown-haired woman waved, running up to him. "I thought I'd find you here."

Oga narrowed his eyes at her. "Do I know you?"

She shook her head, smiling. "No, but I know all about you. The headmaster made sure to give me your file before we met. He told me all about your… situation." she said, eyes darting around.

"He did?"

"Yes, and don't worry," she said, reaching up to put a hand on his shoulder. "I won't tell anyone about where he-" she pointed at Beel. "-really came from."

Oga raised an eyebrow. "What exactly did he tell you?"

She grabbed hold of his hand, and pulled him forward. She was surprisingly strong for a small lady.

"I'll tell you on the way." she said, flashing her teeth. "My name's Nekonome Shizuka by the way, and I'm your new homeroom teacher."

Oga frowned. "Um, that's great and all, but I really wanted to meet the headmaster first, so I can shove my foot up his ass."

Shizuka chuckled, waving it off. "Kids nowadays with their slang. I remember back when we just used to say 'hang out' or 'chillax with the homies' "

Oga shook his head. "No, I am literally going to shove my foot up his ass."

Shizuka laughed one more time. "Oh, Oga-san, you are hilarious. I'm sure that you'll be class clown in no time."

"I told you," Oga said. "I'm being serious… but thanks anyway."

"No problem." Shizuka said, as she dragged him towards the main building. "Now, the headmaster said he couldn't wait to meet you again, so let's hurry up, shall we?"

"Oh, trust me. I can't wait either."

The headmaster signed yet another sheet of paper, and placed it on the growing pile. "That's one more down, and-" He stared at all the crisp white stacks on the other side of his desk, and sighed. "A billion more to go."

His pen had just touched the paper when his door was blown right off its hinges. It landed just a few feet away from his desk, skidding on the floor before slowing down to a stop. The headmaster looked up.

Behind the doorway was a young man with his foot held out, sneering at him. "Surprise, motherfucker."

The headmaster put his pen down, and smiled. "Oga-san, you've finally arrived."

"Yep," he said, putting his foot back down. "so you wanna do this now or what?"

The headmaster tilted his head. "I beg your pardon?"

"Fight," Oga said. "That's the only reason I came to this stupid place."

The headmaster chuckled. "I'm afraid things aren't that straightforward, and besides-" he smirked. "You're nowhere near strong enough to beat me yet."

Oga scowled, running at him with his fist crackling with electricity. The headmaster grinned. Just a few months, and already Oga was starting to grasp how to use demonic energy, but sadly...

The headmaster caught his hand, not even flinching as electricity arced through his body. He smiled before twisting Oga's arm behind his back.

Oga growled, trying to break free.

"It's quite a shame really. Here, you have one of the seven deadly sins in your hands, and you don't even know how to use him right." the headmaster ruffled Beelzebub's green hair, smiling. "Well, I'll have to fix that."

He pulled a wooden beaded bracelet out of his pocket.

"What the hell are you doing?" Oga asked.

"Oh, just watch."

The headmaster wrapped it around his wrist, and instantly Oga started to scream. Blue lightning streaked through the air, and if it had hit anyone else then they would've been dead, but the headmaster held Oga down, suffering the full brunt of Beelzebub IV's demonic electricity.

To think such a small child had this much power at his disposal. It reminded him of a younger Demon Lord all the way back then, blasting away armies with ease. Reminiscing helped to distract him from the pain.

The sparks started to weaken, and slowly they came to a stop. Oga had fallen to his his knees, breathing heavily.

"What the hell did you do to me?" Oga wheezed.

The headmaster rubbed the sweat away from his eyes. "It's called a Divine Limiter. It acts as a filter between you and Beelzebub to control the amount of energy being used."

Oga glared at him. "Why?"

The headmaster shrugged. "I said that I'd make you stronger, didn't I?"

"How the hell will this make me stronger?" Oga yelled, trying to pull the bracelet off.

"That's not gonna work." the headmaster said. "Only I can take it off, and until then you'll only be able to use a fraction of Beelzebub's power. I saw what you did to your last school the last time Beelzebub's power went wild, I can't have that happening here."

"You didn't answer my question," Oga said, scowling."How the hell is this gonna make me stronger?"

"My, you're an impatient one, aren't you?"

Oga glowered at him.

The headmaster sighed. "The way you normally use demonic energy is wasteful. Imagine a canon, and a revolver. A canon has a much higher power, but it's also harder to control. A revolver on the other hand is much more precise, and you can fire off multiple bullets before running out." The headmaster stared at him. "Limiting the amount of energy you get will help you have a better control over it, and once you've mastered this much then I'll take off a bead, and give you access to more."

"Okay, but I think you're forgetting something," Oga said. "I don't know the first thing about using Beel's power. I never even meant to use it all those times, it just sort of... happened."

"Well, the bracelet should make sure that that isn't going to be a problem."

"Fine, but..." Oga stared at the bracelet. "Do you have anything less... lame?"

"Lame?" the headmaster said. "I designed it myself."

"You dress like a priest, I'm not about to trust your fashion advice." Oga said.

The headmaster pouted. "Just go to class already."

"Alright," Oga said, brushing the dust off his pants. "Where do I drop my stuff off again?"

The Dormitory was a decrepit old building, surrounded by brown wilted grass. As Oga walked past a tree, he heard a raven caw at him before flying away. Well, he never thought he'd say this, but there actually was a school out there, which looked worse than Ishiyama.

Who knew?

He walked up to the front desk where an old lady was reading a magazine.

"Uh, I'm here to get my roomkey," Oga said.

She looked up at him. "Name?"

"Oga Tatsumi."

She clicked her tongue as she swivelled her chair to face the computer, and started typing. "Lucky you," she said in a bored tone. "You got room 444, your roommate can help you get settled."

She handed him a key, and Oga put in his pocket.

"Thanks," he said. He rolled his luggage into the elevator, and pushed the button going to his floor. The bell dinged, and just like that it dawned on him.

"Wait, roommate?"

Tsukune looked around his room. The floors were shining, the tables were free of clutter, and he'd just sprayed the room with lavender(Not exactly the manliest scent, but it was the best he could do on short notice.)

He set his cleaning supplies down, and smiled. It was finally perfect.

He had been hesitant at first when Shizuka-sensei had told him that the new transfer student would be rooming with him, but after a few hours he was actually looking forward to it. It had been so long since he'd had any guy friends to hang out with. Someone he could just talk with about manga, and girls. You know, guy stuff.

He'd tried hanging out with Gin-sempai before, but... that didn't exactly end well.

"Run, Tsukune! They found the photographs!"

Tsukune tilted his head. "What photographs?"

Gin-sempai put a stack of photographs in his hand, and seemed to make his voice louder. "These photographs, which I totally begged you not to take because it was an invasion of privacy, but I hid inside my room anyway to make sure you wouldn't get caught since I'm such a good friend!"

The more Gin-sempai talked, the less it made sense. "What are you-"

That's when Tsukune heard it. The sound of stampeding footsteps coming around the corner, and the roars of enraged women.

Gin-sempai patted him on the shoulder. "Godspeed, Tsukune!"

Tsukune looked at the photos, and flushed red.

"There he is!" One of the girls yelled. "Get him!"

"Wait, I didn't-GAAH!"

Tsukune shuddered at the memory. He still couldn't hear right in his left ear because of that. Tsukune placed all his cleaning supplies in the bathroom, and was just about to change into his uniform when he heard the lock turn.

The door swung open, and his new roommate stepped into the room. He was taller than him, and had rather scary looking eyes, but if there was anything Tsukune had learned at Youkai Academy, it was never to judge people by their appearances... Usually because they were a lot worse on the inside than they were on the outside.

On second thought, maybe this wasn't such a good idea.

"Hey," Oga said, nodding at him. "You my roommate?"

"Y-Yeah," Tsukune said, as he took the bandanna off his head. "I was just doing some last minute cleaning before you showed up." Tsukune stretched out his hand. "You must be Oga, right?"

"That's me," Oga said, shaking his hand. "Oga Tatsumi, and you are?"

"I'm Aono Tsukune." Tsukune smiled. "It's nice to finally meet you."

Oga set his bags down on the table, and looked around. "Wow, this place is a lot nicer than I thought it would be. With all the ravens, thunderclouds, and rotten trees outside, I thought this place would look like a haunted house."

Tsukune laughed. "I thought I was the only one bothered by that. Everyone else seems to like it."

"You're kidding, right?"

Tsukune shook his head. "No, when me and my friend first saw this place, she loved it. She actually thought it had 'character' "

Oga gave a low whistle. "No offense, man, but your friend's weird."

"Well, everyone's a little weird around here, but you sort of get used to it after a while," Tsukune said. "Here, you can put your bags down over there, and I'll give you a little tour around the school before classes start."

"Sounds like a plan," Oga said, setting down his stuff on the other side of the room.

Tsukune was feeling pretty proud of himself. So far so good. Assuming that Oga didn't try to kill him in the next twenty-four hours, he was pretty sure he'd just found his first male friend at the school.

"So Oga-san, where did you go to school before Youkai Academy?" Tsukune asked, buttoning his blazer.

"I used to go to Ishiyama before it got blown up."

"Ishiyama?" Tsukune said, frowning. "Isn't that place for delinquents?"

"Hehe." Oga chuckled, a nostalgic look in his eyes. "Yeah. Yeah it was."

Tsukune turned around. "One of my friends said they have a new leader now. Someone called a child rearing bad-" Tsukune stared at Oga's back. He hadn't seen it before with Oga facing forward, but now it was as clear as day.

Clinging to Oga's back was a green-haired baby, sound asleep with a yellow pacifier in it's mouth, and butt naked. Exactly the kind of baby his friend had described.

Oga turned around slowly, smirking. "Child-rearing badass, right? That would be me."

Tsukune gulped.

Okay, so his new roommate turned out to be a legendary delinquent with a baby. That didn't mean he was evil, right? Tsukune peeked at him from the corner of his eyes. Oga's baby was still asleep, but Oga walked like there was nothing even there. No matter how much people stared.

Tsukune may not have known much about him, but he did know that this was not a guy to be messed with.

"So Oga-san-"

"You can just call me Oga, you know?" Oga said. "I mean, I call you by Aono, so it's only fair."

"R-Right," Tsukune said. "So Oga, I hate to ask this, but-"

"Where the baby came from, right?" Oga said, a bemused smile on his face.

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, it's just-"

Oga waved it off. "It's fine. I'll tell you how it happened."

Tsukune's eyes widened. "Really?"

"Sure." Oga said. He coughed to clear his throat.

"Long long ago. There was a handsome, cool, popular, and respected by all young man..."

Moka locked her bike onto the bike rack before taking off her helmet. Moka shook her head, letting her long pink locks tumbled down to her shoulders. She ran a hand through her hair to get all the tangles out. She loved her hair, but maybe it was time for a cut. It was too hard to manage like this.

She looked around, but Tsukune was nowhere to be seen.

She checked her watch. 7:50 am. She frowned, looking around once more. That was weird, Tsukune usually got here earlier than she did. Did he go to the bathroom or something?

"Moka!" She heard a girl's voice yell. Moka whirled to see a blue-haired girl with a rather... full figure walk up to her.

"Where's Tsukune?" Kurumu asked, hands on her hips. "I need to give him something."

Moka looked at the little plastic bag of cookies in Kurumu's hand. "I haven't seen him around either, but I can give those cookies to him for you if you wa-" Moka stretched her hand to reach for it, but Kurumu pulled it away.

"No, this is a special batch," Kurumu said. "I need to give it to him myself."

Moka shrugged. "Suit yourself. By the way, did you finish that article on the Tsuchinoko for the paper? We have to get it printed in a few days."

K"... I'm working on it."

Moka folded her arms. "Kurumu, how many words have you done so far?"

Kurumu mumbled something under her breath.

"What?"

Kurumu shifted her weight uneasily. "I said, I just finished the title last night."

"The title..." Moka said, ice-cold. "We give you a week, and all you have is a title."

"H-Hey!" Kurumu said, face flushed pink. "It's a good title. I call it Shedding the lies"

Moka glared at her.

"You get it? Because snakes shed their skin, and-"

"I get it," Moka cut her off. "I just don't get why you're not taking this seriously."

"Geez, Moka." Kurumu rubbed her neck. "You don't have to be so mad about it."

Moka sighed, rubbing her forehead. "I'm not mad," Moka said. "I'm just disappointed."

Kurumu groaned. "You're not my mom, you know?"

Moka frowned. "Well, maybe if you actually acted your age for once, I wouldn't have to be."

"I wonder what you were like as a kid," Kurumu said, snorting. "Thirteen going on Thirty?"

"Hey!" Moka said. "That was an excellent movie!"

Kurumu opened her mouth to respond when her eyes suddenly lit up. "Tsukune's here!"

Moka turned around, her anger evaporating. Good old Tsukune, her dearest friend in the-

"There is no way that an old man flowed down the river, and split in half," Tsukune said. "How is that even possible?"

"Hey, don't blame me. I'm just say it like I saw it."

"How would you even-" Tsukune's face brightened when he saw her. "Hey, Moka! Sorry, I'm late I had to-"

Moka didn't hear the rest of it. She couldn't hear anything right now. She felt her breath hitch into her throat as a million thoughts raced through her head. Was this a dream?

Tsukune noticed her staring at the man beside him. "Oh yeah, this is Oga, my new roommate. And Oga, this is-"

"Akashiya Moka." Oga said, his face was as hard as stone. "I know, we've met before."

No, Moka thought to herself, this wasn't a dream.

It was a nightmare.

Oga stepped forward slowly, his face a blank canvas. "Long time no see, Mo-"

There were a million things she had to say to him, but actions spoke louder than words. Moka hadn't even realised she'd done it. The next thing she knew her palm was stinging, and there was a growing red hand mark on Oga's face.

Oga rubbed his cheek. He hadn't even flinched. "I probably deserved that."

Moka could feel heat escaping her skin as anger bubbled within her. "You deserve a lot more than that, you bastard," Moka spat out. "Let's go, Tsukune."

She grabbed Tsukune's hand, and pulled him towards the main building despite the boy's protests. Her breathing was ragged, and uneven as she dragged him through the halls.

Once upon a time, she would've cried.

Moka scowled.

But not anymore.

"Moka, can you ha please ha slow down!?"

Moka's feet came to a stop right at the steps of the main building. Oga was far away from her now.

Tsukune was gasping for air, hands on his knees. "Thank you."

Moka's features softened as she felt anger give way to guilt. "I'm sorry. I just panicked, I guess," Moka said, sighing. "Are you okay?"

Tsukune grinned at her. "Well, I'm pretty sure you've crushed my hand, but other than that, I'm good."

Moka smiled at that... but then it slid off.

"So what happened back there anyway? Do you and Oga have... history together?"

Moka shook her head. "We used to be best friends."

Tsukune furrowed his brows. "Used to be? What does that-"

The bell suddenly rang, and all the students started to run to their classes.

Moka bit her lip. "I'll tell you about it some other time, Tsukune, okay? But right now let's just get to class."

"... Okay."

AN:... First off, I am so sorry about being late. I've sort of been working on a new story lately, and sort of got caught up in it, and ended up focusing on it entirely for the past two months, writing 20,000 words for it.

It's called Diamond in the Rough, and you can find it over in my stories. It's the only other series that I'm trying to update regularly right now. One day, I'm gonna try to rotate all my stories at once like some of the other fanfiction gods and goddesses, but right now I'll keep it down to two.

So now there's the big question...

What exactly is Oga and Moka's relationship together? This is actually one of the reasons why I had to reboot the original because I got such a good idea for the pairings from all of your lovely comments, and I needed to rework the plot anyway.

Some plot threads from the original will be kept. I'm pretty sure it's obvious, which one I'm keeping when I added in the Kurumu scene, but let's just say it's not gonna go like you think... (Insert Evil Laugh)

Any questions you have you can post in the comments, and I'll try to answer as soon as possible.

If you liked the chapter then please follow, favourite, and review. Thank you.
