Jack stepped out onto the ice, his bare feet not making a sound. Gentle patterns of frost formed below his feet and followed him as he made his way to the middle of the pond. He looked around curiously at the forest surrounding him. The trees made eerie shadows in the darkness, imitations of Pitch's nightmares. The winter spirit sighed and looked up at the one whom he had resented throughout most of his existence…The Moon.
The Moon shone brightly, casting its gentle rays as far as it could reach. It surrounded Jack, shining off his pale skin, snow-white hair, and eyes as blue as ice itself, making him look as if he was glowing. Jack's face split into a wide grin.
He broke out into a sprint, skidding across the ice and leaving his trademark patterns in his wake. Gentle flurries of snow danced around him, shimmering like tiny stars in the Moon's rays as it was kicked up in Jack's excitement. He maneuvered graceful twists and turns that would make any ice skater jealous.
The night was filled with Jack's laughter. The wind picked him up and carried him as he spun through the air. He would let his feet touch the ice again for a brief second only to launch himself higher. The Moon watched on in silence, but its light had brightened; as if it were joining in Jack's contagious laughter. The snow that surrounded the young spirit began to shine brighter. It glittered as it fell silently.
Jack continued his dance without a care in the world. The joy of being able to be seen and accepted was overwhelming. He was believed in! Just the thought of it sent him into another flurry of icy dances.
After a while, Jack had finally settled to lying on the ice. The chill seeped through his skin and clothes, not that it bothered him anyway. He lay silently, basking in the Moon's comforting rays. The wide grin was still on his face as he stared up at the night sky.
It's been 300 years since he truly felt happy. All the feelings of loneliness had disappeared. He had a family now; North, Sandy, Tooth, and even Bunnymund, his fellow guardians. They would always be there for him. Guardians stick together after all.
How could he forget Jamie? The first child to ever see him, to believe in him! Jack knew there may come a time when Jamie becomes too old for childish beliefs and loses sight of them, but because of him, Jack had more believers than ever. He couldn't thank Jamie enough for all that he's done. He owes his life to the child and will continue to watch over him for years to come.
Golden streams of sand made their way down to the tired form of Jack Frost and danced around him, luring him to sleep with promises of beautiful dreams. Jack looked up at the Moon once more and smiled a small, tired smile.
"Thank you."
