Disclaimer: I don't own Winx Club
Two days.
That's how long Flora had been unconscious. Helia had barely left her side, only leaving to shower and change his clothes. His grandfather had been very understanding and let him stay at Alfea and excused him from his classes at Red Fountain. The Specialists visited every day to check up on both him and Flora. The Winx also came by after their classes and stayed with him until they had to leave because of curfew.
Flora seemed to be doing a little bit better, but the strain on her was beginning to take its toll. She was skinnier as Ofelia could only pump fluids into her and she seemed to be having constant nightmares. Helia talked to her, telling her about the flowers in room, what was going on in the outside world. Her family had also arrived at Alfea, with little Miele bursting into tears when she saw her big sister lying there.
Her mother and father were aghast that she had used Nature's Wrath. Her mother, a nature fairy herself, didn't know how to use it and the two had immersed themselves in Faragonda's office with the headmistress to try and find out how they could stop the dark Nature magic in Flora. If they weren't there, they were by their daughter's side along with Helia.
"Ofelia said she's doing well." Flora's mother said as she stroked her oldest daughter's hair.
"And you've been with her this entire time?" Her father asked Helia who nodded in response.
"Ever since we came back from Darkix." He replied, his eyes on Flora.
"Thank you." Her father said. He really did approve of Helia. He was kind, a pacifist and very loving to his little girl. He seemed like a perfect match for Flora and Mark knew this. His peaceful loving daughter didn't believe in violence and neither did Helia. He wrote poems and painted amazing pictures. Flora still had the first ever sketch he drew of her back home on Linphea.
"It's not a problem, I would do anything for Flora." Helia replied.
"She's lucky to have someone like you Helia." Lily, Flora's mother, smiled at him.
"Thank you." Helia gave her a small smile back. There was a gentle knock on the door and the Winx and the Specialists came into the room along with Miele who had been hanging out with the Winx Club.
"Hey guys." Bloom greeted them as she sat beside Lily and Miele instantly climbed onto her lap.
"Hello Bloom." Lily replied softly, her eyes still on Flora.
"Still no change?" Musa asked as she tied her hair up into a high ponytail.
"No, not really." Mark said and Miele pouted slightly. All she wanted was to see her big sister open her eyes. She missed seeing Flora awake.
"Um," Nabu cleared his throat and everyone turned to him. "I might be able to get inside Flora's mind to see what is going on." He suggested the idea that had been playing around in his mind for a couple of hours.
"But wouldn't that take up a lot of your energy?" Layla asked, concerned.
"Don't worry about me, Layla darling, I'll be fine. I might be able to help out Flora and see what she's fighting against." Nabu explained as Flora's face creased into a frown and she tensed slightly. Helia squeezed her hand slightly and she seemed to calm down a little bit but the frown still stayed on her pretty face. "But only if it's ok with her parents and Helia." The wizard continued.
Mark and Lily looked at each other and seemed to have a silent conversation between them, causing the Winx and Specialists to smile slightly in amusement. They looked so much like Flora and Helia, the pair often could speak to each other without words.
"Ok." Mark said and Lily nodded.
"Helia?" Nabu asked him gently and the pacifist looked up at him.
"Do what you must." He said shortly before turning his attention back to Flora.
"Right." Nabu nodded.
"Be careful." Layla said to him softly, kissing him on the cheek.
"Always am." Nabu smiled at her before sitting cross legged on the ground. Closing his eyes, he began to concentrate. After a few minutes, he was in.
So this is how it ends… Flora thought to herself as she got hit by another lightning bolt courtesy of Stormy. She was too weak to fight it off. Her powers were there, but they felt darker than usual so she was not going to touch them, no matter how much Nature begged and pleaded with her. Not after last time. She was too weak to control the darkness of her powers.
"She's trembling Icy! Look, she's trembling!" Stormy said delightedly. She couldn't believe how easy this was. The pixie wasn't even fighting back like she normally did.
"I see it, sister." Icy smirked in amusement as she let out some icicles. Some pierced Flora's skin, causing the bronze skinned fairy to cry out in pain.
Flora looked up at the Trix, tears in her eyes. She didn't know how much more she could take. Everything hurt so much.
"Flora!" A familiar voice called out and Flora looked towards the direction of the voice.
"N-Nabu?" She whispered in disbelief before clearing her throat. "Nabu!" She yelled back, as loud as she could.
Nabu smiled and ran towards where he heard Flora. He skidded to a halt once he saw what was going on. The Trix had surrounded Flora who was beaten up pretty badly. He glared at the three witches before summoning his staff. "Get away from her." He growled, as a protective big brother instinct took over him. Firing off one of his own attacks, Nabu caused the Trix to fly away from Flora. Without hesitation, the wizard dropped down to Flora's side.
"Are you alright?" He asked as he pulled her into a tight hug.
"I-I'm ok…" Flora whispered back, clinging to him. "But how are you here?"
"Meditation and some magic." He winked at her, helping Flora onto her feet. "Flora, listen to me. The Trix aren't real. This is all in your head. They're locked up in an underwater prison in Andros." He looked dead in her eyes.
"It's not… real?" Flora asked him. "But why do I feel so much pain… and my powers… my powers feel so dark… like I'm turning into something… darker…" Flora rambled.
"Flora." Nabu shook her gently and the Nature Fairy blinked at him. "You can fight it Flora. You're so strong. I believe in you. Layla believes in you. Your best friends believe in you. The guys believe in you. And most importantly, Helia and your family believe in you. You need to wake up Flora, you've been unconscious for two days."
"Two days?" Flora repeated. "And my family is at Alfea? Mom, Dad and Miele?"
"Yes, they're here. Your father surprisingly hasn't killed Helia yet." Nabu joked and Flora giggled softly in reply. "That's a girl." He said affectionately before he swore.
"Nabu, what is it?" Flora asked him in concern.
"I have to go, Flora. My powers only allow me to be in someone's mind for a limited time. But promise me that you'll wake up." Nabu said.
"I promise." Flora nodded firmly. She had to wake up now. She was not going to give up on anything. She was next in line to become the Guardian Fairy of her Planet. She was not going to let that opportunity go to waste.
"I'll see you soon, Flora." Nabu said before he began to disappear. He then heard voices all around him, including his beloved Layla's. Opening his eyes, he met her cyan ones.
"Nabu." Layla smiled in relief as her boyfriend stood up.
"What happened?" Helia asked him in concern. During the time that Nabu had been away, Flora's face had become much more relaxed and her breathing became steadier and deeper.
"I would like to hear that too, Nabu." Ms Faragonda said as she slipped into the room. She always came around this time to check up on the Nature Fairy.
"She thought that the Trix were attacking her." Nabu began to recount what had happened to his friends and Flora's family. Lily and Miele both paled and Mark growled under his breath. "Flora was too afraid to use her powers. She thinks that they have become too dark and powerful for her to control."
"Hmmm." Faragonda frowned in thought.
"But," A small smile came to Nabu's face. "She promised me that she would wake up soon."
"She did?" Miele gasped in excitement. "When?"
"How about right now?" A sleepy soft voice said.
"Flora!" The Winx screamed in delight.
"Oh Flora!" Lily burst into tears and Mark wrapped his arms around his daughter along with Miele. Lily joined in and gestured to Helia to come in as well.
"Helia." Flora beamed at him once her family pulled away. Helia just looked at her before leaning down and kissing her like he had never kissed her before. It was a kiss that took Flora's breath away both literally and figuratively.
"Ahem." Mark cleared his throat and the couple pulled away from each other, both blushing. The Winx and Specialists surged around the bed, hugging their friend. Once Nabu moved in for a hug, the bronze skinned fairy whispered "thank you" in his ear. Nabu simply winked at her before pulling away.
"Welcome back, Flora." Faragonda looked at her in relief. "If you all don't mind, I would like to have a few moments with Flora." She said to the rest of the group.
"Can Lily, Helia and I stay?" Mark asked the headmistress.
"Of course." Faragonda nodded.
"But I wanna stay too!" Miele protested.
"Sweetie, go with the Winx and the Specialists." Flora said to her little sister, running a hand through her hair affectionately.
"But…"
"Do what Flora says, Miele." Mark said. Miele pouted before following the Winx and Specialists out of the door. Once the door closed, Faragonda looked at Flora seriously.
"Flora, we need to know why you decided to call forth Nature's Wrath." She said and Flora looked down at her hands.
"I… I really don't know." Flora answered. "I felt like I had to do it… that I had no other choice."
"Did you know about your Dark Nature powers?" Mark asked her.
"I knew a little bit about them, all Nature Fairy's know that there is some darkness when it comes to Nature." Flora replied.
"She's right, Mark." Lily nodded her agreement.
"I just didn't expect mine to come forth." Flora whispered and Helia took her hand and squeezed it.
"How do they feel now?" Faragonda asked.
Flora frowned in concentration, trying to get to the core of her power. "…darker than usual… but also weaker… like they won't be at full strength for a couple of weeks." She admitted.
"Your powers will be quite weak for a while. That's because of Nature Wrath. In regards to your powers feeling darker, however, what I can do is lock that darkness away for a long time. It won't be forever. But you won't have to worry about it for a long time." Faragonda said.
"You can do that?" Flora's eyes lit up with hope.
"Please do it." Helia said to the Headmistress.
"I can." Faragonda nodded. "Flora, you're strong as it is. You've got amazing courage and a good soul and heart. You don't need any dark powers telling you that you need to become even more powerful. Nature is so strong, nearly as strong as the Dragon Fire." Faragonda said.
"When can you help me seal away this darkness?" Flora asked.
"As soon as Nurse Ofelia releases you." Faragonda replied.
Flora smiled and kissed Helia on the cheek. "Just a couple more days, sweetheart." Helia said to her.
"And I'll be free of this darkness." Flora said with relief in her eyes. Just a few more days and she wouldn't have to worry about the darkness taking control for a long time. No more voices in her head, no more nightmares, no more performing spells that could almost kill her. Flora was more than ready for this. A life without the fear of darkness taking over her mind. It was what she had wanted all along.
Helia, her friends and her courage from her heart had helped her through what had been the worst time of her life. But they got through it. They always did and always will.
