"You know, you really should update your time-travelling section," Chris said, scanning the titles of books on the top shelf.
"Seriously," Mia added, telekinetically flipping through more books. "We could find more by Googling."
"Googling?" Gideon questioned.
"Never mind," Chris said, shaking his head. He turned to Paige. "Any luck with that spell yet?"
"Since the last time you asked me, two minutes ago?" Paige asked.
"Sorry, I'm just a bit anxious," Chris muttered.
"We both are," Mia said. "Chris is going to be born any day now, and we want to be gone before that happens. Just in case."
"Just in case what?" Paige asked worriedly.
"Just in case," Chris stated. "We don't want to risk anything. We did what we came here to do; save Wyatt."
"And now we just want to get back to the future we fought for without messing anything else up," Mia added.
Piper and Leo walked in, Leo pushing some suitcases.
"No, no, no, no, not yet," Chris said, panicked. "You're early."
"Relax," Piper smiled at him. "Just trying to get a jump on things and send some stuff back home now."
"Just don't scare me, alright?" Chris said, sighing in relief.
"Is the spell not ready yet?" Leo asked.
"I think it's ready," Gideon said. "It should work."
"Should?" Mia shot, raising a skeptical brow.
"As we all know, there are never any guarantees with time travel," Gideon said pointedly. "There's always a chance that something could go wrong."
"Well, we're not taking any chances," Leo said. "I'm not sending you two through a one-way portal without knowing you're going to be okay."
"You can never be certain," Gideon argued. "Unless you went with them, too, and even then…"
"Let's just forget the spell and work on the potion," Leo said.
"But the spell has a better chance of working," Gideon argued. "It's the power of three."
"But with the potion we have a way back home in case things go wrong," Mia pointed out, eyes narrowing slightly as she looked at Gideon.
"I agree, it sounds safer," Piper spoke up. "So we need to get to work on that. Paige, can you orb these home? Just stick them in the nursery."
"Nursery?" Paige asked, eyes widening slightly.
"You did clean out the nursery, didn't you?" Piper asked.
"Well, I've kind of been busy working on the spell. I'm sorry," Paige apologized.
"Well you better get on that, or baby Chris will be sleeping in your room, missy," Piper scolded lightly.
"Don't worry, I'm on it!"
"Have you thought about how different the future is going to be when we get back?" Chris asked Mia as he drew a triquetra on the wall.
"Sunny days in sunny San Francisco, non-evil warlord husband, our family finally together the way it was always meant to be," Mia listed off. She paused and smiled lightly. "It's all I've thought about since we came back here."
"I just want to make sure you guys get there safely," Leo said. "Alright, if anything seems different, we have another vial to come right back here, in this exact moment."
"You know, you don't have to come with us, Leo," Mia said. "The two of us can handle it, and like you said, we have the vial that can take us back immediately."
Leo shook his head firmly. "No way. I'm not letting you two go into some unknown future."
"You know, you worry too much," Chris said teasingly.
"I'm your father," Leo replied pointedly. "It's my job. And when you do get back to the future, try not to take it so hard on Wyatt. It's gonna be different, try not to hold a grudge."
"Like this one would let me," Chris said, gesturing towards Mia who just smiled brightly. "As long as he's not an evil warlord, then we'll have no problems. Speaking of clean slates, what about you and Mom?"
Leo looked away. "It's complicated."
"How?" Chris prodded. "I just want to know what direction you two are going in before I head back."
"It's difficult," Leo repeated. "I'm an Elder. I have commitments."
"You're also a father," Mia reminded gently. "Twice over, soon enough."
"Yeah," Leo said distractedly. "I know. We'll see. So we have enough of the potion here to go for a dry run before everyone comes and says goodbye. How bout we give it a try?"
"Yeah, let's do it," Chris nodded.
"I warn you, if the first thing I see is Mikey, I might not be as willing to return back," Mia teased, grabbing Chris's hand excitedly.
Mia and Chris held their breaths and Leo threw the potion at the triquetra Chris had just drawn. The potion broke before it even hit the wall.
Mia's eyes welled with tears as Chris and Leo just crossed their arms.
"That was supposed to work," Mia said in a small voice. Chris frowned and put an arm around her.
"I'll get you home, guys," Leo said determinedly. "I promise."
Later that day, Chris and Mia were in the library of Magic School, waiting for the Charmed Ones to cast the spell that should take them home.
"That potion should have worked, Chris," Mia said. She shook her head in frustration. "There's no reason it shouldn't have. We consulted every damn book in this library. Piper looked over it and she puts Severus Snape to shame. Even Leo said that it should have worked."
"I know," Chris comforted. "But we have the Power of Three spell."
"Something just doesn't feel right," Mia said so softly that Chris didn't hear her.
"Hey," Chris said softly, sitting next to her. She looked up to meet his eyes. "We did it, okay? We saved Wyatt. And we are so close to getting home. To him. To Mikey. We just have to be a little more patient." Mia pursed her lips, but nodded.
Piper waddled into the room.
"Where are Phoebe and Paige?" Mia asked.
"They should be here soon," Piper answered.
"Soon? Soon is when we have to go," Leo said.
"We?" Piper asked. "You're going to go too?"
"I told him he didn't have to come with us," Chris said.
"Just to make sure they get there safely," Leo explained calmly. "Remember the last time you went through a portal? You were nearly dinosaur kibble. I'm going."
Just then Gideon walked in with the spell in his hand.
"Sorry," Gideon apologized, "I just wanted to go over the spell one more time, give it a few tweaks."
"Tweaks?" Mia asked. Piper grabbed it out of Gideon's hands.
"Let me see that," Piper said, reading the spell, Mia moving to look over her shoulder, as Paige and Phoebe appeared in a swirl of orbs.
"There you guys are," Chris said. "Where have you been?"
"Sorry," Paige apologized. "We were a little… held up."
"But we're here now, and that's the important part," Phoebe said hurriedly. "So let's cast that spell and send you home."
"Geeze, since when were you in a such a hurry to see us go?" Mia asked in mock hurt.
"Well, since something happened with the thing, and the thing, with the thing," Phoebe rambled, barely understandable.
"What?" Chris asked.
"There's a warrant out for Chris's arrest," Paige clarified.
"What?!" Mia exclaimed.
"We tried to get Darryl to bury it, but he's not exactly on our side anymore," Paige offered.
"But it's okay!" Phoebe said brightly. "We've dealt with worse. We'll get through this. Worse comes to worst, if we're in jail when you get back to the future, you'll just have to bust us out. You guys just get back to the beautiful peaceful world that you helped create, okay?" She hugged Chris. "I'm really gonna miss you guys."
"Please don't start crying, or I'll cry too," Mia said as Phoebe hugged her next.
"She really will," Chris laughed as he hugged Paige next.
"I'm gonna miss having you guys more as friends than aunts," Mia said, hugging Paige tight. "It's gonna be weird seeing you guys all old again."
"Thank you for coming here," Piper said, grabbing both Mia and Chris tightly in a hug. Mia then stepped away to give the mother/son. "I love you."
"I love you so much, Mom."
Mia kneeled down next to Wyatt and hugged him. "I'll see you soon, Wy," she said softly, kissing the top of his head.
Chris smiled at his little older brother. "Be good."
"You two did a noble thing coming here," Gideon said.
"Now let's go home," Mia said, moving to stand next Chris and grabbing his hand. Leo moved to stand next to them as they turned towards the triquetra.
"In this place and in this hour, we call upon the ancient power, open the door through time and space," the Charmed Ones chanted. The triquetra lit up brightly, the portal open. "Create a path to another place."
Without looking back, Chris, Mia, and Leo disappeared into the portal.
The Charmed Ones smiled sadly as they watched them disappear, but only for a moment as soon after, a very different Leo, Chris, and Mia walked out of the portal.
The trio was dressed in varying articles of clothing of black leather, scowls on their faces. Mia wore a tight leather crop top and miniskirt with knee high boots. Dark tattoos peeked out from her clothing.
"Where are we?" Evil Mia asked, looking around. Her eyes landed on Wyatt and her face paled. "Wyatt."
"Something's gone wrong," Gideon said, staring at Evil Leo's spiky hair, facial hair, and dark scowl. He walked towards him. "Don't let them leave."
With a sneer, Evil Leo pushed Gideon into Phoebe, knocking her over. A darklighter crossbow appeared in Evil Chris's arm and he shot an arrow straight at Paige.
"Are you out of your mind?!" Piper exclaimed, freezing the arrow midflight. With a wave of Evil Mia's hand, the arrow resumed it's movement, Paige barely dodging out of the way in time.
Evil Leo looked at Evil Chris and Evil Mia. "Follow me." Evil Mia grabbed Evil Chris's hands and they disappeared with a swirl of black orbs.
In an alternate parallel universe…
"What the hell is this place?" Mia said as they reappeared in white orbs at the top of the Golden Gate Bridge. Below them was utter chaos and destruction. "It looks like…"
"Like the future we left behind," Chris finished. Leo gave them a worried look. "But worse. Because here it even seems…"
"Normal," Mia finished.
"If this is what your world was like," Leo said, "I feel sick."
"This is why I had to come back and change things," Chris said simply.
"And you did. You both did. And I'll always be proud of you two for it," Leo said with a smile. "You saved Wyatt from becoming evil. You gave us a second chance. The least I can do is get you two back to your future, back to good."
"Thanks Dad," Chris said. Mia smiled appreciatively.
"But how do we do that?" Mia asked.
"We're going to need the Power of Three," Leo said.
"Well we can't trust those Evil Charmed Ones," Chris said. "Did you see Aunt Phoebe's snarl? They're too dark."
"I think I might know somebody, someone who can force the sisters to help us," Leo said.
"This is the Underworld?" Chris asked skeptically. All around them were lush fields of grass, blooming flowers, and sunlight from some unknown source.
"The portal must have worked in an unexpected way," Leo explained. "Opened a portal to an alternate universe. The exact opposite of our world."
"Where good is bad, and bad is good?" Mia asked.
"Exactly," Leo said. "So if this is a world where good is living in the underworld, who would be the paragon of good?"
"Barbas," Mia hissed as the Good Barbas appeared before them.
"I know the truth of all your hopes because I can feel your greatest hope inside here, the hope that one day to return home," he said in a lilting voice, looking over the trio in front of him. "Oh, and of course, your presence here gives me great hope, the hope that someplace there really is a different kind of world, a world where the goodness of the heart prevails."
"Is he serious right now?" Chris asked incredulously.
"He must be," Leo replied, keeping a cautious eye on Good Barbas. "The Demon of Fear from our world, here, is the Demon of –"
"Hope," Mia finished.
"The question is, though, do you have enough power to send us back?" Chris asked Good Barbas.
"Alas, I do not," Good Barbas admitted, "Not if it was a Power of Three spell that brought you here. But, however, hope springs eternal, so I may be able to pursue the sisters of my world to help us by relying on their biggest hope – the hope to reunite with your counterparts. And then maybe…" he paused in front of Mia and Chris. "You two shall be able to return to your time before it is too late as you hope."
Suddenly, white orbs appeared and Phoebe and Paige appeared before them.
"Oh, thank God," Paige said seeing Leo, Chris, and Mia in front of them.
"Quickly, orb away," Good Barbas said, adopting a protective stance in front of the trio. "I will deal with them. I've done it before."
"No, it's okay, they're the good ones," Leo said, smiling as Mia attacked the sisters with a hug.
"Man, are we so glad to see you," Mia told them.
"But what about us?" a voice said. Suddenly Evil Phoebe and Evil Paige joined them.
"Nice knuckles," Phoebe commented, eyeing Evil Phoebe's fists. "Brass?"
"Tiffany's," Evil Phoebe corrected.
"What a waste of a blue box," Mia muttered under her breath.
"Look, we didn't come here for a fight," Paige said. "We just want to get our Chris, Leo, and Mia back."
"So did we," Evil Paige said.
"Give us ours and we'll give you yours," Phoebe offered.
"Not a chance," Evil Phoebe retorted. "We can't trust you witches."
"We're the untrustworthy ones?" Paige raised a brow.
The Phoebes and Paiges began fighting one another, mirroring and deflecting each others' moves perfectly.
Leo, Chris, Mia, and Barbas watched silently from the sideline.
"Should we help them?" Mia asked worriedly. "If we help, we outnumber them easily."
"The balance of good and evil in this world is dangerously unbalanced now," Leo said softly. "I'm afraid if we interfere it could set something catastrophic off."
Mia bit her lip but did nothing. Chris squeezed her hand.
They continued watching, neither good nor evil sisters getting the advantage over the other.
"We don't have time for this," Leo said, getting antsy. "We gotta get you two home."
"When Gideon said the portal could go wrong, I had no idea it could be this bad," Chris muttered.
"Gideon?" Barbas asked. "Maybe he did know exactly how wrong it could go."
"What do you mean?" Mia asked, heart racing. She knew she never trusted him.
"In our world, Gideon was desperately trying to get rid of Wyatt," Barbas explained.
"Piper's in labor," Paige said hurriedly. "We have to get back to her."
"And get back to Wyatt," Mia said.
The Phoebes, Paiges, Leo, Chris, and Mia orbed to the Manor's attic, just in time to see Gideon holding an athame above Wyatt's head.
"Wyatt!" Mia screamed, causing the windows to break. Chris had to hold her back.
The Paiges and Phoebe's immediately started chanting, "We call upon ancient lore to punish with the power of four, strike down this threat from both there and here, make him suffer, then disappear."
"Oh thank God," Phoebe said as Gideon disappeared in black orbs. Mia instantly picked up the crying Wyatt and held him fiercely, but he only continued to cry. Mia blushed when she realized this was not her Wyatt, and Evil Phoebe took him from her, soothing his tears.
"Did you give that bad man Gideon those wounds?" Evil Phoebe cooed to him.
"Looks like Wyatt can handle himself," Evil Paige commented.
Leo picked up the athame Gideon had dropped. "But for how long? Gideon is one of the most powerful Elders. If he wants Wyatt dead, it's only a matter of time before he develops a new plan."
"I can't believe it was Gideon all along," Chris said.
"I knew I didn't trust him, " Mia said, angry with herself. "I should have trusted my gut."
"And I should have trusted you," Chris said, trying to comfort her. "You knew something was up, but I was too excited to have won."
"It doesn't matter now," Leo said. "Gideon is still out there. If he wasn't vanquished here, then he wasn't vanquished in our world either."
"So what we need is to get everyone back where they belong," Paige said.
"The problem is we don't have the Power of Three," Leo reminded them.
"No…" Phoebe started. "But we do have…"
"The power of four," Evil Phoebe finished.
Mia nearly cried in relief when they stepped out of the portal and saw their Wyatt sitting on the floor of the attic.
"There's my brave little guy," Leo said, picking Wyatt up. "Quick, the portal's closing. We've got to get the other us through."
"We'll go," Chris said, grabbing Mia's hand and orbing away.
"Why did you volunteer us?" Mia said as they reappeared where their evil counterparts were trapped in a crystal cage. She paused, shocked. "Whoa."
"I was kind of curious to see what our evil counterparts look like," Chris said.
"So that's what I would have looked like if I had stayed with Wyatt," both Mias said at the same time.
"Evil," Mia said softly.
"Good," Evil Mia said in disgust.
Both Chrises put their hands on their respective Mias. "But you didn't. And we saved our future," both Chrises said.
"We have a portal ready for you guys to go through," Chris told their evil counterparts. "Your Wyatt is safe. The sisters are expecting you."
"About damn time," Evil Chris commented.
Uhm. Hi. I am so incredibly sorry that it has taken me almost a year to update it. If you are still reading and following this story, I am so eternally grateful and love you so so much. This chapter is a bit longer than the others, so hopefully that maybe a little bit makes up for it? lol, probably not. Anyways, there is only one chapter left of this story! I can't believe it! So thank you to everyone who has stuck around, readers both old and new.
Obvious disclaimer, I own nothing in this story but Mia. A lot of the dialogue came verbatim from the script of Charmed season 6's episode, It's a Bad Bad World part 1. Don't sue me. I have little to take lol
