I don't own Silverwing or Guardians of Ga'Hoole. I only own this story and the characters not in the books.

Orestes awoke a few hours after he and his friends went to sleep. The young owl looked at his friends who were still sleeping soundly.

A young Silverwing caught Orestes' attention. Orestes curiously looked at the young Silverwing. The young Silverwing returned Orestes curious stare before the newborn's parent intervened.

Orestes sighed. He knew he was an outsider among the Silverwing just as much as he was an outsider among his owl species. But Orestes put that aside when he heard Shade waking up from a nightmare.

Shade was comforted by Marina and Orestes the best they could do. The Starwings and the Band mostly just stayed to the side and didn't get involved with the Silverwing colony.

Shade wondered what was talking the elders so long to make their decision. Shade was eventually distracted from the elders' meeting by some of the newborns asking him and Marina about their adventures.

Shade and Marina told all of the newborns in Shade's colony about all the adventures they had. Occasionally Dusk or Aurora would pitch in a few details, but Eclipse and the Band stayed silent.

"…and we barely escaped from two giant cannibal bats." finished Marina.

Chinook was intrigued by the stories he had been hearing. He was especially interested how a runty little bat like Shade could survive all he had been through.

"If they were so fierce, how did you escape?" asked Chinook.

"Shade used his echoprojection." told Marina.

"Only tiger moths' can use echoprojection." said Chinook.

Shade thought he had found an opportunity to get back at Chinook for calling him a runt all those times back at Tree Haven. The Silverwing concentrated and summoned his echoprojection. Shade made an echoprojection of a tiger moth as big as a bat.

Screams of fear and panic erupted throughout the colony. Chinook and another young bat beside him went tumbling to the cold stone ground of Hibernaculum. Shade quietly laughed to himself and stopped the echoprojection.

When the echoprojection of the giant tiger moth disappeared, all eyes of every Silverwing on the colony were on Shade. Shade looked up and saw his mother, Frieda, and an older male bat that looked like Chinook (most likely Chinook's father) perched above him.

Shade thought he was in trouble for the panic he caused with his echoprojection. He was surprised when his mother of all the bats in the colony asked him where he had learned echoprojection, and in a curious sounding voice no less.

"Where did you learn to do that Shade?" wondered Ariel.

"An old bat named Zephyr taught me." replied Shade.

Frieda prepared to speak to the entire colony.

"The council has decided to leave Hibernaculum." announced Frieda.

Shade glided over to Frieda. He had some information that the entire colony needed to know.

"We need to find Ursa, the white Kamode bear. She'll help us." insisted Shade.

The bat who appeared to be Chinook's father was astonished to hear what Shade had just said.

"Taught be Zephyr. Befriended by bears. You're father will be proud of you." assured the male bat.

Shade was completely caught off guard by what Chinook's father had said.

"I thought my father was dead." disbelieved Shade.

Ariel let out a long sad sigh.

"I always intended to tell you…" began Ariel.

Ariel was cut off mid-sentence by Mercury.

"Owls, they've found us." shouted Mercury.

Boreal and team of his guards came flying in not long after the last words fell from Mercury's tongue.

"King Boreal, what is the meaning of this?" questioned Frieda.

Boreal looked to one of his guards, intentionally ignoring the elder Silverwing.

"Arrest her." ordered Boreal.

Chinook's father used his body to shield Frieda, but it was no use. The owl guard knocked aside the bat and tossed Frieda to King Boreal's feet.

"I only seek you and the other traitors. Shade Silverwing and his allies and my son." stated Boreal.

Chinook's father rose to his full height and faced the owl king.

"If you take Frieda then you will have to deal with all of us." hissed the male bat.

Boreal took the bat's words as seriously as he would a fly clutched between his talons.

"Save your breath Silverwing. I communicate only with your new leader, Bathsheba." clearly spoke Boreal.

There in the entrance to Hibernaculum stood Bathsheba. The old female bat had a twisted smile upon her face. She was the one who had told the owls about Hibernaculum. There was no other explanation to how Boreal and his followers could have found them.

Frieda couldn't believe what Bathsheba had done. True they never say eye to eye, but never in her many decades long life had Frieda ever once thought that Bathsheba would be capable of betraying her own colony.

"Is this what you call leadership? Betraying your own colony?" asked Frieda.

"Sometimes you have to sacrifice a few for the many." snapped back Bathsheba.

Boreal ordered for the traitors to be captured. The owl warriors captured Shade, Marina, and the three Starwings. The Band fought back their attackers, but soon even they were captured.

Orestes tried to convince his father that his friends were innocent. Boreal would not listen to his son. He did not believe the words of traitors, even if the words were from his own son. He had to uphold the law. And that's exactly what he was going to do.

The body of an owl fell from the sky. A wolf dragged the owl body out of the lake. More wolves appeared out of the forest.

Another owl fell. Boreal looked up and saw two shadowy figures on the top of a cliff. One of the figures extended its wings.

"It can't be." gasped Boreal.

Boreal couldn't believe it. The shadowy figures were bats. Bats large enough to kill owls.

The Silverwing had been telling the truth. Giant bats had been killing owls. And now they had killed some of his troops and were going to kill everything else they saw.

Boreal ordered his troops to attack the two giant bats. Goth and Throbb mowed through the lines of owl warriors one by one. Bellow the wolves feasted on the bodies of the dead owls as they fell to the earth from the sky.

Boreal flew into battle himself with his warriors' still falling prey to the two giant bats. Goth saw the approaching owl king and dove towards him.

The two top predators of the sky engaged in an aerial battle. Orestes was his father was losing the battle. Goth would kill the owl king if Orestes didn't do anything.

Orestes and the Band flew off to help Boreal and the rest of the owls fight off Goth and Throbb. Shade, Marina, Dusk, and his siblings helped the Silverwing colony prepare for battle.

Orestes managed to save his father from Goth, but he wasn't able to save himself. Goth sent the young owl prince tumbling towards the ground. Before a female wolf could skin her teeth into Orestes' flesh a loud roar was heard.

Out of the forest appeared Ursa, followed by an army of other animals. Leading the beasts of the, Ursa charged into battle. Every wolf in the area of Hibernaculum was suddenly fighting for their lives against Ursa and the others who believed in the Silverwings' innocence.

The Silverwing colony themselves found themselves fighting in the skies against the giant cannibal bats. It was like the story of the war between birds and beasts that happened thousands upon thousands of generations ago, but this time the bats chose a side.

The battle lasted for hours; so long in fact the sun was beginning to rise while the battle was still being waged. But soon Goth and Throbb were defeated and the wolves were chased off.

In the center of the battlefield, with the sun rising behind him, King Boreal gave a speech to all those victorious to hear.

"It's been said that a good leader can admit when they've been wrong. I've been wrong about the Silverwings, wrong about my son, and so very wrong about Shade. Long ago all bats were banished to the darkness for not taking sides. Today they chose a side. Today you have earned all bats the right to fly night or day." declared Boreal.

Cries of joy swept through the entire valley. Shade had done it. He had cleared his name and returned bats to the sun. Now all that was left for him to do was find his father.

In a few risings and settings of the sun the Starwings and the Band set on the journey back home. Shade and Marina didn't accompany them. With last goodbyes and parting farewells the friends separated most likely forever.

Thrash and Moonlight were overjoyed when their children had returned. All the owls at the Great Ga'Hoole tree welcomed back Soren, Gylfie, Digger, and Twilight with joy.

Just before sunrise, the friends told all the owls from the Great Ga'Hoole tree and all the Starwing bats from the ten Clans about their adventures. They spoke of Marina and Shade, evading owls, escaping from rats, befriending a bear, and helping the Silverwings and all bats return to the sun.

Despite all the merriment that was being held during these stories, the young bats and owls were still not to go without punishment. Soren and the rest of the Band would were given orders to bury owls pellets under the tree for the next year by the King and Queen of Ga'Hoole. Eclipse, Aurora, and Dusk would be lucky if they ever saw the sky again before they became elders.

Both groups would be dealing with their punishments the minute the sunset. Until then they could finally enjoy a long sleep safely in the Great Ga'Hoole.

When the sun was high it the sky Dusk awoke. He was having trouble sleeping. His head was filled with thoughts about all the adventures he had had with Shade and Marina.

Dusk decided to peak outside his family's whole in the Great Ga'Hoole tree for just a moment then go stair back to sleep. A glowing red light in the distance caught Dusk's attention. Curiosity growing inside of him, Dusk decided to see where the red glow was coming from.

Aurora opened her eyes to see if there were any signs of Goth or Throbb. She had gotten into the habit of waking up and looking around when the sun was up during the journey with Marina and Shade. It took Aurora a few moments to remember she was back at Ga'Hoole and no longer traveling with her friends. Before she could go back to sleep Aurora noticed Dusk was nowhere in her family's whole.

Aurora quickly woke Eclipse. Eclipse groaned as he opened his eyes. He soon was fully awake when he saw the urgent look on his sister's face.

The two Starwings managed to crawl out of their family's whole fast enough for Dusk to only be half a mile in front of them. Aurora dropped from the branch and flew after her little brother. Eclipse felt a very bad case of déjà vu.

"Here we go again." groaned Eclipse.

Eclipse quickly flew to catch up with his sister. Hopefully they would be able to catch Dusk before he ended up taking them on another life threatening journey.

From a low branch of the Ga'Hoole tree watching Eclipse and Aurora fly after Dusk was an old blind a bat. Quick smiled to herself and laughed. Her apprentice definitely had the making of an Oracle. Too bad it seemed he kept on dragging his siblings along with him. But, Quick guessed, that only made the journey more fun.

This story is finally over. I've been working on it for over a year and it's finally done. Comment if you like the story and tell me if you have been following from the beginning.
