Disclaimer: I do not own these characters. DC Comics does. This is just a fun writing exercise.

Author's Note: This is my first attempt at a drabble fic but I over shot the mark by fifty words making this my first flash fic instead. This little fic combines elements of the Golden Age and the Modern.

A eight-year old boy runs around the Batcave. A long black cape sits on his shoulders and trails more than a foot behind him. The bat eared cowl is on his head. He trips and falls. This doesn't faze him. He stands back up. He laughs. "I'm Batman!" he shouts. Alfred, butler and trusted confident, raises a brow. The boy corrects himself. "Okay not yet. But I will be! Someday I'm going to be Batman!"

Fifteen years later the boy is now a man. Dick Grayson wears the cape and cowl. The gray and black uniform fits him perfectly. The first Robin is now the second Batman. The first is gone. Bruce Wayne, the man who was like a father to him is dead. Dick tilts his head down. He wishes more than ever that this wasn't so. It is in a state of grief that he whispers, "I'm Batman."
