Chapter 29: Morlun attacks
"Inconceivable! How could she have possibly have known that lightning bolt would strike that lamppost at the precise moments?!" The mad thinker puzzled and puzzled at this situation "And the way she anticipates my androids' blows, almost as if…" Until he realized, "Yes…of course! It all makes sense now."
The door hissed opened to reveal his android with the unconscious Silk over its shoulders with ankles and wrist tied together with electric cables, "Ah you've returned and with our guest…good this must be the girl Mr. Sims was talking about. Though curious who is behind the mask but the job is done, isn't that right Ezekiel."
"Yes quite done. Is she unharmed?" He asked narrowing his eyes a bit as he walked out of the shadows with a briefcase
"A slight concussion during the battle which I predicted will have her out as a light long enough for you to transport her out." He smiled while rubbing his hands, "Now my reward."
"Yes here is 20 million for her capture and I will leave you to deal with Spider-Man." He placed the briefcase on a table with the locks becoming opened, "Now have a good day. Oh beware of Spider-Man there is a link that connects him to her. Make sure you don't say a word about me, I can only dread what would happen if he did."
Ezekiel left with the girl over his shoulder once out of sight, he placed her down leaning her on the wall and from the inside of his suit a collar. It was placed around her neck, then he brought her hands in front him tearing the cables off as well as her ankles.
He lifted her up bridal style carrying her outside, once out of the lair of the Mad Thinker the older man place her in his personal car. She stirred groaning a bit, he paused making sure that the spider bride totem wouldn't wake. It was fortunate she did not, he sighed deeply, "Time is of the essence Morlun is going to attack according to Beyonder. I cannot leave you in the hands of Peter." He said to the unconscious girl, "One day you will thank me for saving your life. I know you Ms. Moon if I would have come to you while conscious you'd throw a fit. I regret stooping down to low level in asking help from a villain still this is for your own good."
The bunker 6:30 PM
A few sniffles were heard from her holding block cell as Cindy called it wiping away her tears for the 10th time or was it 25th she lost count after 10. She let them slide down her cheeks though there were a few that she didn't bother to wipe it away allowing the salty tears to stain her bed sheets. She hugged her plushy tightly, she didn't want to be alone even after graduation her parents promised to be there to support her yet their work got in the way so they never came out to watch her get the diploma further aggravating at the same time disappointing Cindy thus making their relationship strained even more.
The doors to her room opened, she didn't bother acknowledging Ezekiel who walked in with a tray of food, his face neutral giving nothing away. Placing it on the table he eyed the girl carefully than at the table nothing she hasn't eaten nothing for last couple of hours. He inhaled sharply switching out the lunch tray for the dinner tray, "You must eat something…"
"I'm not hungry…" She replied
"Cindy I know you are upset…" Ezekiel began, "But…"
"Just go away…" Her tone was nothing more than a hushed tone, the girl buried her head in her lifted knees.
The older man went to her bed sitting down next to her placing a hand on her shoulder it was meant for reassurance yet the Moon teenager jerked away from his touch scooting away not wanting to see or hear what her captive had to say.
"You're hurting I get it, you finally felt a connection with someone…" He softly said
"Until you ripped me away." Cindy said still refusing to let her gaze shift towards him, "I never felt so alone, so out of place until you told me about Peter. You gave me a hope that I could have a connection with him and now you are going back on your word!"
Ezekiel face was stone, "Let me remind you that we are dealing with Inheritors! If I'd let you stay your fate will be like Mary Jane!"
"Is she coming back?"
"All I know is that she is alive and well in another dimension with a different Peter Parker, when she will be back I have no idea." He paused letting this information sink in, "My guess; it's only a matter of time before she returns, not to mention before she confesses her feelings to Peter after all she has been away from for…oh I don't know…a month or two."
At this Cindy lifted her head, a hand quickly going to her heart she could feel a pang right in the middle of her heart, it was like a giant hole was being pummeled into her chest, with no hope of repair. She couldn't let those two back together at least not romantically, it was hard enough to make friends or find a good partner she didn't care if those two were friends as long as Peter was hers in the end that's all that matter or was it instincts talking?
'Damn this totem business…' Cindy growled, it was hard enough trying to decipher which was her feelings while trying to keep this primal instinct down…that was a partial lie she knew perfectly well the difference, yet did she truly understand?
She then realized something, if Mary Jane could return at any given moment, if she was alive that means there was an attraction between both the redhead and as she would claim her 'soulmate'. Yet, she promised him to be his friend rather than her forcing herself on him as a consequence she remembered that she told him that she wasn't going to replace MJ. Her train of thought stopped; who was she kidding…Peter had an affection for the red head, she was only using the instinct to her advantage. However what does that mean when the redhead female spider came back?
Was she going to be discarded? Forgotten? With this thought in mind she didn't have time to waste. Bolting off her bed to the open door she was about to cross over to the other side when suddenly a line wrapped around her waist dragged her back in.
"Where do you think you're going?" The man asked pulling on the webbing
Stunned was the word that could describe this surprise the older man action had done, how was it that this man supposedly not having any spider powers at all was able to do this? Too many question arose at this moment as she was lifted by the scruff of her collar.
"You listen good Ms. Moon…" He hissed through his teeth, "I'm not going to be the one too have a guilty conscious of your death! I made a promise to your parents that I would care for you as if you were my own!"
"See if I care about your stupid promise! It's not like they cared about me in the first place, no matter what I did it was never good enough for them."
"Mr. Sims you have guest in your office." A voice came over the PA system
"We are not done here." He dropped her, Ezekiel left ignoring the glare she was given while shutting in her bunker, "You are going to stay here until this situation is over."
Cindy hugged herself once again once the footsteps faded, "I got to get out of here Peter needs me…I…need him…"
Ezekiel Office
"I swear if it's Beyonder I'm going to…PETER WHAT IN BLAZES HAPPENED TO YOU?" Ezekiel was shocked he was not expecting a bruised, battered Spiderman with might I say a new black suit tore in various places slowly regenerating.
"H-hey…" He said, "You know more about this Morlun guy than I do…I need your help…"
After getting over his shock, he went to the window with his hands folded behind his back, "Tell me what happened and start from the beginning…"
2 hours earlier
The pain subsided for some reason, Spider-Man was in constant pain the moment he stepped away from Cindy in his apartment room despite that he muscled his way through the pain, he tangled with criminals robbing an armored car but at a small price to pay in trying to clear his head from the mess of this morning. As of now he was lying on ledge of the building, his face looking at the grey sky while trying to sooth his headache.
"Okay…not the best idea…Ow…" Peter eyes were closing on it owns, "Okay a little nap and I will be better…" He blacked out the moment he closed his eyes.
40 minutes later Spidey awoken. Stretching his limbs, he felt his joints crack, "Aww man did anyone catch the number of that bus that hit me…wait a sec…"
There was no more buzzing or pounding of a headache, "What the…" Peter tried reaching out for Cindy, her presence suddenly vanished it was like she was never even there, "That's weird, there's no way Cindy would just stop trying to reach for me via 7th sense so that means either one or two things number one she asleep or something is blocking me somehow."
He tried once again reaching out to her then again this time around he felt a familiar presence as he tried to expand his senses he tried to lock on to that signature. He had difficulty in trying to make out who it was, was it Cindy? No...No it wasn't her, it was different; Cindy's signature was active, more energetic, longing and primal to say the least. This one was soothing, passive, apprehensive, confused overall hurting yet a longing was there…a longing for…him? That was surprising…wait the signature became excited, it began to call out for him, like it was trying to reach out but couldn't, Peter try all he might to grasp the connection it suddenly vanished.
"Alright Parker, what was that about? It was almost as if I could feel Mary Jane…" Spidey was stunned, "That's impossible, MJ's gone…my mind must be playing tricks on me." The hero would have pondered more on the situation if a sudden tingle didn't tell him to move out the way.
"Yow!" Spider-man hand sprung away in time to avoid being crushed by a metal pipe, when he recovered by sticking near a building he saw a Golden man, "An Oscar? This is so sudden, hey I got a question for you: what was the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences lone regret? Answer: That Melissa Leo didn't suffer from the same condition that won Colin Firth an Oscar!"
The golden man launched once again at the web slinger, as he somersaulted overhead, "What didn't like my joke? Aww, that one was killer back in 2011, you should really get more in touch with your comedian side you know."
The featureless man said nothing while trying to lunge at Spider-Man, he used this momentum tossing him over to other wall before loading him up with webbing sticking him to it, "Now let get some answers here, I'm pretty sure the Grammies are looking for a runaway killer gold statue with a skirt and might I add a very bold style for man but I wear a skin tight costume and people think I'm crazy."
Silence
"That's not nice didn't your mother ever teach you it's not nice to keep people waiting for a good laugh? Now we do it the easy way or the hard way!" Spidey cracked his knuckles, "Preferably I would choose the easy way."
The golden man broke the webbing trying to bear hug the hero in the making, Spidey leapt into the air landing in a crouched position, he smirked, "Hard way it is then."
Without looking back he grabbed the discarded metal pipe pulling it towards him, when the golden man rushed him again our hero, he was ready he side step while swinging the pipe to the back of the head.
The featureless man staggered a bit to the edge yet recovered, he shook in fury rushed in by throwing a quick jab to the face, Spidey caught it one hand then kicked him in the side. Despite the Android being kicked it managed to grab Spidey's leg quickly pulling him along with it as it fell off the building.
Seeing how he had only moments to respond, he bashed the pipe unto the head of the Android followed by a punch in the face, the android blocked a second punch countered punched him the stomach, while trying to twirl them around so that his prey would be on the bottom, Spider-Man noticed this struggled to regain control however his spider-sense was warning him that he nearly the bottom fast unto busy traffic.
"Get off Goldie!" The Android would not let him go. Spider-Man couldn't explain it but there was a build of energy surrounding his suit, Spider-Man was surprised that his suit was creating some sort of pseudo-tendrils then out of the blue a voice told him to concentrate and release on three.
When he did as he was told all was heard a loud explosion with a sea of black in his vision though it only lasted for few seconds before clearing up like dust. Quickly he spun a web to the nearest lamppost to where the crater was, traffic was on a complete standstill, "Boy I bet someone is going to be mad as a hornet when they arrive late to work. Now where's goldilocks?"
He scanned the area, there was no sign of him anywhere, "Really a 6'1 foot tall man wearing a gold skirt disappears into thin air? It isn't that hard to find someone wearing a skirt, I bet he even gets drafts down there. Anyway, I have to get to the apartment I hope Cindy is there instead of trying to look for me. I hope Aunt May is making one of her apologies pies, I don't know why we even fought, we hardly fight over things."
Unknown to him a small robot camera was following him.
Back at the lab of the Mad Thinker
"Foiled again by the costume miscreant!" The Mad Thinker slammed his hands upon the controls, "Intello return for repairs! There must be a way…wait there is I see it…yes that will do nicely."
The doors opened to reveal a damaged android, the Mad Thinker was not pleased in the slightest, "Rest my friend I will repair you. For the time being I let my drone follow him."
The brown haired man gestured his robot to the nearest repair table, "Soon I will have you right where I want you Spider-Man."
30 minutes later
Peter landed on the balcony of his shared apartment, he heard light talking when he entered, he heard his Aunt May and Gwen talking it was serious talks he guessed by the way their tone was.
Peter was going to change when he felt his suit shift and turn, when he looked himself in the mirror he was in a black sneakers, with jeans on with a white thermal underneath a blue short-sleeve shirt, "I think I'm going to like this suit."
Once out of his room he quietly snuck to the corner to hear the conversation Harry was asking the question, "So Peter's parents were more than just scientist, they were spies?"
May Parker sighed heavily, "Yes, what I've told you is something that must be kept a secret…I feel awful for not telling Peter before his 17th birthday but I couldn't help it…we were being watched by the government for the longest of time, even S.H.I.E.L.D kept tabs on us."
Now Peter had a sense of guilt creep up in him, he understood if you were being watched by the professionals, government official he wouldn't even bothered to ask the question. While it did answer some questions, others were raised as well yet it would have to wait, somethings had to be reconciled.
Summoning his will Peter coughed as he entered, all eyes on him, "Hey Aunt May…"
"Peter…"
Gwen and Harry knew it was there time to go so some words needed to be said about the Parker family so it wasn't any of their business to be there. After they left the apartment to take a walk the silence was cut deep with awkward tension.
"So…I heard…" He started
"Yes you did."
"Why did you keep this from after all these years, why?"
"…"
"No that was a stupid question why haven't you told me."
Aunt May sighed sadly, "I was afraid that you wouldn't look at me the same even if I told you, I was afraid that you would hate me for not letting you go with your parents or even telling you where they were."
"Aunt May I could never hate you, yeah I'll be ticked off for not telling me the truth for keeping this from since it is important but I could truly never hate you still I just wanted to know."
The older woman motioned her nephew to sit next to her, he obeyed, and she brought him close to her chest as she began to tell him about how his parents met or rather his father's origin. She told him how Richard Parker was born and raised in Queens, in a small house different from what they lived in today. Aunt May then explained he lived there with her and Uncle. He graduated from Midtown high school then went to college to study for criminal justice, seeing how he had knack for solving crimes. Richard was later recruited into the Central Intelligence Agency and becoming one of the best agents. Richard met another agent, Mary Fitzpatrick who worked for S.H.I.E.L.D as Fury right hand woman; "It was on a I believe an investigation to look for someone called the Red Crow though I'm not sure"
"Red Crow?"
"I don't know Peter it was years before and after you born, I've forgotten the name."
"Oh…"
Aunt May sighed heavily, "Though I wished I'd stopped him from taking on such a mission, your father was a now an S.H.I.E.L.D agent by the time you were born recruited by none other than Nicolas Fury you godfather."
"Whoa…whoa, whoa, who say what?" The young boy had his mouth agape
"That's right Peter the man you saw with an eyepatch is your godfather, the man was the best man at the wedding and I can attest to that he did come by regularly to check up on you even to this day he's been watching you from afar but never really doing anything."
"What do you mean not doing anything?"
"Fury branded your parents as traitors I don't know all the details all I know is something happened to them on a mission when we turned on the news, little did we know that the news media was looking for a scapegoat." Aunt May clenched her fist, "We begged him to look into the situation when we heard that they've been branded traitors, you know what he said to us…"
Peter shook his head.
"He said that evidence was stacked up against Richard and Mary so there was no point in doing an investigation they are now consider enemies of the United States. I don't believe for a moment that those two would commit such atrocity you could say it was hell for the next three years, Fury bugged our house until we couldn't take it anymore so we moved into another area of Queens a more quiet part of the neighborhood. The rest you already know."
Peter was dumbfounded, more like stunned to be honest but something inside trembled in rage, he could feel the hurt, the rage all directed towards Nick Fury. The silence was deafening Aunt May wasn't sure that what was going on a in that head of Peter.
Elsewhere in another room Gwen had an ear towards the door listening to the muffled conversation, "Wow…I never would have guessed. To think that Peter is the son of two supposed traitors."
"But they weren't traitors Gwen we don't know the full story no doubt Peter a bit steamed about this..."
Gwen was about to respond when suddenly a boom was heard, the two young adults raced outside to find themselves caught between a fight between their friend Peter and a man wearing a gold skirt?
"Bold fashion sense." Harry commented
"Harry this is no time for jokes our best friend could be…UGH!" A chair was thrown in their direction Gwen received the brunt end of the full force of the flying object rendering her unconscious while hitting a wall.
"Gwen!" Harry and Peter cried out
The robot took advantage of the distraction knocked out the web slinger out cold with the mighty punch the web slinger was out cold.
The lair
"Ooh…anyone catch the number of that freight train…?"
"I did it!" a voice exclaimed gleefully
"Um…beg your pardon…? Head still hurts…" Peter was coming to, he felt that he was being squished he looked downward from his upside down position he was chained hanging from his feet pointing upward. He then looked at the man in green suit, he had a smug face upon him.
"I calculated if I left my drone to follow you, you have a resting place…"
'Uh-oh…do he know my secret identity?'
"You would be confronted when Intello would emerge to trap you and you…" He walked gleefully walked towards the chained wall crawler, "Would lose…I've finally envisioned a correct scenario that take into account your uncanny abilities."
He looked straight into those white jackal like eyes, "I must admit Spider-Man you made a worthy opponent."
"I was thinking the same thing; except you know…I have no idea who you are."
The man in the green jumpsuit went over to his robot, "I'm known as the Thinker, the world's analytical mind. You've already met Intello, my autonomous intelligent android."
If the mask could move one eye would be raised while the other would be in a thinking state, "Yeah whatever brainy, build an android that can talk, wear pants then I'll be impressed. Think huh? Then can you tell me what you think I'm doing here?"
"I see why not…you see I've developed an algorithm a very complex algorithm designed to accurately predict future events. But somehow you've existed outside of m calculation, as if you were disobeying the very natural order of the universe itself!" He pointed his finger accusingly to the webhead, "The answer to this puzzle eluded me at first, but now I understand; you too can predict the future!"
He got real close into the black suit beings face, "Tell me…how do you do it?"
"Psychic hotline. Five bucks a minute."
"You mock me!"
"Well dude…" Spidey eyes dropped to disbelief "You can't really predict the future. If you want to be omniscient that role is already taken by God Himself so no you cannot predict the future…Besides…" He breaks the chains surrounding him the Thinker whips around in time to see him do it, "If you can predict the future then why couldn't you known to buy thicker chains!"
"Intello attack!" He commanded, the android ran towards Spider-Man trying to knock his lights out but this time without the audience of civilians Peter ducks under the punch.
"Not this time Goldilocks…" He throws a punch staggering the android, "There are no storms or innocent bystanders around this time…meaning I get to give you…" He throws another punch harder than the last one towards the featureless face of the android, "…My acceptance speech!"
Intello flew across the lair into very expensive computer equipment of the Mad Thinker, he looks in shock towards his precious creation smoking with its head knocked clean off with it still twitching.
Spidey launches his webs towards The Thinker, "Guess you didn't see that coming."
A little while later Spidey leaves the Thinker webbed on a computer screen, he's very disgruntled as he hears, "Well the cops are on the way to trade your green jumpsuit for a blaze orange one or even of those white jackets with extra-long sleeves." He makes the sign of the web, "Well that's my cue to…"
"WAIT!" Webs looks back at the man, "Please I must know! I must!"
"Okay what do you want to know?"
"Your friend the female spider…" Peter quickly drops his hands leaping towards the side of the man eagerly wanting to hear this, "How did she do it? Really I saw her jump out of the way when lightning hit a lamppost! How did she know that it would strike?!"
"You're talking about the spider-sense."
"Spider-sense? What is that? How does it work!?" He demanded
"You're going hate me for this but I have no idea how it works." He grabbed the jumpsuit, "But you are going to tell me one thing; where is Silk!"
He smirked, "I'm sworn to secrecy."
Peter shook in rage punched the man lights leaving him unconscious.
By the time he left it was already dimming down a bit the sun, "Where could she be?"
He swung from web line to web line until he rested upon a building looking over the city thinking to himself, he promised her that he would protect her, he would be her friend now he had no idea how he was going to keep that promise if he didn't know where to go to find her.
He would have continued to push forward with his search but sirens prevented him from going any further, "Time to do that hero thing, I'll check up on Gwen and the others later."
A second later his spider-sense blazes hard before he is able to take off, "GAAAHH!"
He knows it was an inheritors yet which one is watching? Was it the brute Daemos? He had no idea, his breathing was getting jagged he was going to get one of them if it was the last thing he did, then it stops.
"I know you are there…" He scans the area; "Nothing…."
Area unknown
"It is time for the hunt to begin." Beyonder said grimly
"Let us pray that he will win." Web stated then she looked towards another web line the one where Peter and his sister are being held in cell in lab, she waves her hand to find Phoenix locked in heavy combat with the inheritors twins, "Phoenix better make sure that those are out of commission before anything else happens."
"Have in young Peter he'll make it through."
Suddenly without warning a new web is form by itself, Beyonder is usually never taken by surprise however this one did.
"What in the name of…" He watches as a new web emerges, this web is similar to the one they are watching; with multiple universes in this one as well with a center burning brightly. "It's like a parallel to the center of 616…but how?"
Though what unnerved him that it was making a beeline to the web of life center, Beyonder reaches out to the web touching it, "No…how is that possible?"
Loom world
"Impossible! How can there be two chosen Spiders!" A voice boomed in rage, he watches as the web line races towards the one that has already have a set universe, "While the hunt maybe glorious, it doesn't make any sense."
The beady red eyes looks at his captive, "WEAVER! Are you behind this?"
"No my master. I have not dealt my hand in this I've done what you've have asked of me it appears that something greater is at work than me."
Back to reality
A building is completely a blazed a person is on top of the building screaming for help for anyone to come help. The building starts to crumble as the young but luckily your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man was there to save the day.
"I've got you just hang on!" Spidey grabs the person by the stomach before swinging down to the ground, "You alright Ma'am?"
The woman looks back grateful that she's been saved, "Yes thank you…"
Spider-senses tingles hard, Peter clutches his head "AAAGGHH!"
"Are you alright!"
'Spider sense going nuts! It's screaming telling me to hide!' Before anything could happen a fist punches Peter across the face. For the first time in his life Peter tastes his blood as he crashes into a nearby car.
"That was…" For the first time no witty comment from him, Spidey looks up to see a man with long hair with red eyes staring back at him.
"Who are you?"
"I am your death Totem."
"Don't tell me your one of the inheritors."
"Indeed I am Peter."
"How do you…"
The man smirked, "I've face you more than once little spider, your counter parts weren't exactly a challenge well…except for Cosmic Spider-Man."
Spidey leaps to the man giving him the old one two combo punch, the man leans his face back to him with a smirk, "Is that all you got, even with the symbiote?"
One punch it took sent Peter flying towards another building, "So sunshine you'll want to tell ol doc Spidey why you coming after me? I promise I'll keep it strictly confidential, just you me and the staff, how about it?"
The man chuckles, "I like this version of you Peter; you have a sense of humor."
"Don't tell me tell letterman. I've been trying to get on that show for a year now."
"The only problem is I wish not to see you dead."
Spidey puzzled, "Oh then we have something in common then."
"But it is quite necessary."
"Oh…"
The man brushed off some dust from the suit, "You see Spider-Man, I grow neither weary nor tired, you'll run, I'll pursue, you hide, I'll find. No matter where you go I have now your scent, so no matter where you are in the multiverse I'll find you."
"Touching because I don't swing that way." He droned
"I assure you it's nothing personal."
"Try telling that to Mary Jane, your cousin made sure of that."
"Daemos is nothing more than a brute, a savage if you will. If something please him he'll have his way but I assure Mary Jane is alive and well."
The news stunned Peter then he got angry, "Where is she!"
"With doppelganger that has a more simplistic version of the symbiote that you are wearing now." The man told him, "Enough talk you are mine."
The time of talk was over, Morlun and Peter exchange blows with each other, sending one another crashing into other buildings with great force. Peter strength was waning with each blow however Morlun strength was rising, even with his limited knowledge of combat Peter tried his best to fend him off.
Debris was going everywhere and civilians were going to get hurt so he decided to make a run for it, only Morlun pursued with a smile on his face.
Now
"We continued to fight until he tried to grab an innocent bystander, what is he?"
"A hunter."
"You got to help me, hide if possible."
"I'm sorry Peter but I'm afraid I can't help you." Ezekiel said solemnly as he stared in the window, "You're going to die and there is nothing that I can do to prevent it. Nothing…"
"What do you mean you can't do nothing…"
"This shelter, adamantium shelter, alloys, air recycling system, the reinforced steel was designed to keep Morlun from finding you. In time he would have stopped looking for you and gone elsewhere. But once he touched or got a hold of your scent this becomes irrelevant. He can find you whether you go." He turns to Peter, "You cannot run nor can you hide, you are going to die whether you like or not. You can fight but in the end you will die. I gave you and opportunity to come with me and I'd would have extended the offer to Mary Jane but you declined."
Peter looked down on the ground swallowing dryly, "I'm sorry Peter but there was nothing I could have done to prevent this. That's it my friend game over."
