And This I Promise

Chap. 2

A/N: These chapters will be short but fun I promise. It's what I write at school and then some. Also I know these are kind of short but like I said written at school with things added and taken out. Also 5 reviews and I'll update. (: I also don't know if all of this is "politically correct" but hey oh well.

DISCLAIMER: Own nothing but Lexi.

"Gunnery Sargent Gibbs?"

"What?" Gibbs rolled over on the thing they called a bed and saw it was his CO waking him up.

"There's been an accident. Your wife and daughter are dead. I'm sorry." Gibbs heard the word accident and immediately sat up and was awake.

"I'm sorry but what the hell happened?"

"Somebody shoot at your wife's car. Killed the agent driving with her. They ran off the road. She and your daughter are dead. That's all I know." Gibbs pierced his lips and held back the tears. He was a marine and marine's stayed strong.

"And-And what about my other daughter? Alexis?"

"She's okay. Sustained major injures and has a head injury but they expect her to live."

"Okay." All Gibbs could do was clutch the family picture taken just days after Alexis was born that was in his pocket to keep from crying.

"Get your stuff together Gunny. You leave at 0600."

The flight back to DC was filled with guilt, anger, and grief. Shannon and Kelly were dead and ten month old baby Alexis had a 70% chance of living. All Gibbs could do was look at the photo he had of all of them as a happy family to keep from crying. When Gibbs arrived at the airport and saw a NIS agent waiting for him at the gate. He explained everything in the car while they drove to Bethesda and that there was an agent staying with Alexis until they got there. All Gibbs did was nod his head and fake a smile.

When he and the agent walked into the NICU of Bethesda he was stopped and asked which of the babies was his. He simply answered with Alexis' full name and the nurse warned him that Alexis was in pretty bad shape. She led him to the part of NICU where the critical babies were. "Can I hold her?" Gibbs felt stupid for asking but he didn't know if he could or not. The nurse nodded and walked away. Both NIS agent said they would outside if he needed them, that they figured he could use some alone time with his daughter.

"Oh baby girl. I am so so sorry this had to happen to you."
