Disclaimer: Don't own them.
Time seemed to have slow down. The chaos surrounding them seemed to freeze. It kind of remembered him of those final moments in the movie where the hero was in trouble and about to have a "moment." But he knew that wasn't going to happen. But funny…it wasn't about Lucifer or Michael. No, it was about him and his brother.
The only thing that Sam could do was to stare at his brother.
He memorized his brother's face one last time. No, he didn't remember the one that was covered in blood. No, he was going to remember the one with the twinkle in his eye. It was the one where a smile broke his face then a laugh. Yes, that is the one he is going to remember.
He closed his eyes.
He memorized Bobby's face….not his broken body on the ground. No, he is going to remember the one where he grumbled under his cap when they do something dangerous and nearly gave him a heart attack. He is going to remember Bobby's small smile that formed on his face when he was amused by something they said. Then he would call them idijits. That is the Bobby that he is going to remember.
He opened his arms.
He memorized Castiel's face….not the pieces of him shattered on the ground. No, he isn't going to remember that one. He is going to remember the one that called him friend. It was the one who can be serious and then confused by bouncy balls and coffee. It was the one that backed him up when he needed it most. That is the Castiel that he is going to remember.
He felt the cage suck him. He felt his body resist or maybe it is Lucifer. He wasn't quite sure.
In his mind's eye, he memorized the Impala. It was the dirty and covered in filth now. No, he was going to remember when she seemed to glow in the sun. No, he was going to remember the sponge fights that he and Dean had when they had to clean her. In the flashes of memories, he is going to remember to the road games and the wrestling matches in the back seat. He is going to remember seeing snow for the first time from her window. He is going to remember the rattling legos and his unmovable toy solider in the ash tray. He was going to remember his home…the good, the bad, and the ugly. That is the memory that he was going to carry with him.
He could feel Lucifer trying to gain control. He wouldn't let him. Never again.
He memorized the faces of his mom and dad. He burned his dad's face…both young and old into his memory. He remembered the fights and the angry but also the good things. It was like the times of soccer games and lazy car rides. He burned in his mom's face with her gentle eyes and smile.
He wasn't going to remember the bad. No…he was past that.
In his mind's eye, he saw his brother's pleading eyes. Begging. It broke his heart. A part of him wanted to scream. But he knew that he was doing the right thing. Let him go….to send him to Lisa. Dean was going to be free from hunting. He knew that it was slowly killing his brother. He knew that if he didn't make his brother promise that he would do something stupid. He wasn't going to allow his brother to make the same mistake as him.
No more stupid mistakes for them.
This would be their last. His last.
He pulled those images of his friends…those memories together. Weaved them and burned them into his head and soul.
He tilted his head back and smiled slightly.
With that…he let go.

A/N: It is very rare for a song to drive me to write a fic. But Movies by Alien Ant Farm did that. It is one of those songs that just…fits for Swan Song. So, I hope that you guys enjoyed and review if you wish.
