A/N: I know everyone has been curious about just who is going to be in Sakura's Pack. I've had a lot of helpful suggestions for breeds and while I would have liked to use them all I also didn't want the pack to be too large. Writing each dog with all their different personalities plus all the other characters…. Well I wanted to do each of the puppies justice.
P.S. Special thanks go to Lady Ridger, Pruhun, Bookmaniac849, spiderqween1, and HiddenYori.
Chapter 12: Impatient Puppies
In the soft pink light of the early morning, a small white puppy can just barely be seen dragging a large cylinder-shaped object that was easily ten times it size. By rights it shouldn't have been able to make the thing budge, but inch by inch the pup tugged the object further into a meadow surrounded by trees. Finally it stopped when it was just about in the center of the meadow and the puppy let go of what you could now see was a large scroll. The pup sat down next to the scroll breathing heavily for a few moments, its pink bandana around its neck now visible in the early morning light.
"Chiyo!" came a harsh whisper from the edge of the meadow.
The light was slightly brighter now and you could see that the whisper came from a rather large fluffy puppy with reddish brown fur. Slowly the new pup walked into the meadow and looked around frantically as if expecting something, or someone, to jump out at any moment.
"Chiyo!" the fluff ball said again this time louder. "You're going to get into so much trouble with this stunt, Chiyo!"
Chiyo, the small white Westie pup, simply glared at her friend. "Really Kaede, you want to see them just as much as I do! It wasn't fair that Mom and Auntie wouldn't tell us anything about the new summoner. Clearly if we want to know we'll have to find out ourselves."
"But you can't summon them now their probably sleeping! We should be sleeping!" Kaede, a large Newfoundland puppy protested.
"Puh-lease! Their probably to excited to sleep. I mean I am pretty awesome and of course they can't wait to meet me." Chiyo said flicking her head to the side with her nose in the air.
"They most likely don't even know who you are. I can't really see Chiharu-sama and Chinatsu-sama bothering to mention you when they met the new summoner." Kaede tried to reason with her friend as she came over and sat down next to her.
"Anyway!" Chiyo said ignoring Kaede. "I'm not going to wait any more."
With that Chiyo pawed and nosed at the scroll until it opened and revealed the newest entry.
"Sakura? That's a girls name right?" Kaede asked as she stood towering over her friend.
"Probably, but who knows it could be a boy with weird parents. Now back up and let me work!"
Chiyo closed her eyes and lifted her right paw. For a few moments nothing happened but then a slight glow steadily grew around the raised paw. Eventually it became a strong blue light and the white pup slammed her paw down onto the entry.
An explosion of smoke engulfed the meadow causing the two puppies to start coughing. As the air cleared Chiyo and Kaede could see a girl laying curled up by the summoning scroll. They saw that she was clearly still asleep and now shivering in the open air.
"Oh, she is a girl." Kaede said breaking the silence.
"Who cares about that! She has PINK hair! Obviously she was meant to be my partner. C'mon we need to wake her up already I can't wait to show her off to everyone!" Chiyo's excitement was clearly visible at this point.
But as she went to jump on the human girl, a large paw slammed her into the ground. Chiyo struggled for a while before stopping. She turned her head to glare up at Kaede.
"What gives Kaede?!" Chiyo snapped.
Kaede, towering over her tiny friend, glared right back. "You are not waking her up. That is not the kind of first impression you want to make. You shouldn't have summoned her at all Chiyo."
"Hey its not like you weren't curious about her!"
"That was before finding out how young she is! I thought the summoner would be older. Instead she's a, a child, I think that's the right word. She is going to be scared waking up in a strange place especially when she probably went to sleep in her own den."
Chiyo blinked and was silent a moment. "Ah, I didn't think of that."
"Of course you didn't" Kaede sighed. "I didn't think either or I would have sat on you to keep you from getting at the scroll. I'm just so use to seeing Hatake-sama, I don't think any of us have ever seen a human besides him before."
As her large friend let her up, Chiyo looked over at the child named Sakura. "Hey Kaede, how mad do you think she's gonna be?"
"Who knows" Kaede shrugged. "I think you should be more worried about Chiharu-sama and Chinatsu-sama honestly. Especially when the don't find the Summoning Contract."
"Keep her warm while I try to get this put away before anyone wakes up!" Chiyo said looking scared as she darted over to the scroll. Rolling it up, she once again started dragging it across the meadow and into the woods.
Left behind Kaede rubs her head before snuggling up to the cold pinkette.
"You can be such an idiot Chiyo." Kaede sighs before letting herself fall asleep.
When Sakura woke up she was not where she was supposed to be. First of all she should have woken up in a bed. A nice warm blanket would usually be tucked up under her chin. Most of all though the boys should have been there with her.
Instead she finds herself outside, in a meadow. Only her red puppy pajamas covering her body. Also a strange puppy was keeping her warm, her boys no where in sight.
"Where am I?" Sakura asks out loud as she sits up.
A sudden yawn from next to her catches Sakura's attention and she looks down at the red fluffy pile of fur at her side.
"Hmm, good morning." The pup said softly still partly asleep.
"Uh, good morning?" Sakura replied.
Suddenly the puppy's head jerked up and its brown eyes were opened wide.
"Oh, oh dear I didn't even think about what to do when you got up. Oh, I'm awfully sorry. I let Chiyo bring you and you must have a bunch of questions. Just, just stay right there while I go tracked down my friend, since she's the one that. No, blame later, okay never mind, just I'll be right back with answers and stuff. STAY!" The puppy babbled before taking off and dashing from the meadow.
A, now, completely confused Sakura just stared after the puppy. With no answers coming anytime soon and being left alone, she decided to follow the same direction as the puppy. Hopefully she'd find someone that could get her home soon.
Though the woods Sakura walked the trees much smaller then the ones back in Konoha. This only made it even clearer to her that she was definitely no where near home.
As she walked past the last few trees of the woods, she saw stretched before her a series of hills with a few trees and bushes clustered here and there. Bright colored circles scattered on the hills, in what she thought might be doors.
"Hey! What are you doing here!" A rough voice barked at Sakura.
Startled, Sakura turned to her right and saw a gangly German Shepherd puppy glaring at her.
"Can you even talk." The puppy snapped.
"Of course I can!" Sakura shouted. "I don't know what I'm doing here. I don't even know where 'here' is! I just woke up and some strange dog is babbling something about a 'Chiyo' and ran off."
The German Shepherd had been glaring the entire time until Sakura said 'Chiyo'. Then it seemed to visibley droop.
"Did the dog have red fur and lots of it?" The pup asked as it sat down.
"Uh, yeah." Sakura answered.
The puppy sighed. "Great, just great Chiyo strikes again. Come on I should bring you in to see Chinatsu-sama and Chiharu-sama."
"Oh, I met them the other day!" Sakura stated happy that at least she'd now see someone she knew.
Head tilted to the side in curiosity, the black and brown pup was surprised. "You did? Then you must be the new summoner everyone is talking about."
"Yup, I signed the contract the other day. I'm Haruno Sakura, its nice to meet you."
"Ah, I'm Hakuryu son of Takashi, Most people just call me Ryu though. I'll make sure you get to the Boss Ladies." Hakuryu made his own introduction before taking off towards the hills. "Come on!"
Surprised, it took Sakura a second before she ran off after Hakuryu. As the flat ground started to slope downwards she tripped and started rolling.
"Sakura!" She heard Hakuryu shout from behind her.
The rolling didn't stop until she collided with something that let out a yip. Dizzy from her trip down Sakura just laid on the ground with her eyes closed. Only opening them when a worried Hakuryu started nosing her.
"Hey, are you alright!" He shouted as he nudged her.
"I think so, Hakuryu." Sakura said as she sat up.
"Good." Hakuryu said in relief.
"Isn't anyone going to ask about me?" A cheerful voice popped up to Sakura's left.
There sat a brown Bloodhound puppy with just a bit of black around the eyes and nose.
"Who cares about you! You take so many naps in stupid places I'm surprised your still in one piece!" Hakuryu snapped at the other puppy.
"Ah, Ryu, relax being so serious all the time can't be good for you." The Bloodhound said with a grin.
"Do I have to remind you of all the times I've had to wake your tail up before something happened! Like the time where kicked a tree in your sleep and got the bees after you, or the time you rolled over during your nap and went sliding and almost hit the thin ice of the lake!"
"Good times. Its always something interesting to wake up to. Much better then before I fell asleep when I was bored. Besides this time I get to meet someone new!" The Bloodhound turned to look at Sakura at this point. "Hi, I'm Taiyo! I'd say its nice to meet you but I'm never sure if getting hit is a good greeting, though Ryu does it often enough so it might be."
As soon as he said this Hakuryu did exactly that and sent Taiyo skidding down the hill a bit.
"Ah, like that see." Taiyo chirped
Sakura couldn't help it and started laughing at the two puppies. It took a moment before she calmed down and introduced herself to Taiyo. She now had two puppies guiding her once the Bloodhound heard she was the new summoner.
"Yup that would explain why Kaede was running around looking for Chiyo just a little while ago. That isn't an unusual site around here by the way. Chiyo is usually up to something while Kaede is trying to pull her tail out of it." Taiyo said.
"Is Kaede the red puppy I saw when I woke up?" Sakura asked.
"Most likely." Hakuryu muttered. "She really only stops Chiyo about one time outta ten."
"Yup sounds about right." Taiyo added. "Oh hey looks like we're here."
The area was a market and crawling with all types of dogs running or walking everywhere. A family of Terriers was walking single file with the Mom keeping a sharp eye on her pups. An Akita was arguing with a Beagle over the price of bones. A Shiba Inu was buying a vest from a Mastiff while a Dachshund walk by with sunglasses perched on its head.
"Wow." Sakura said but before she could continue an Akita with light brown and white fur came running up.
"RYU!" The Akita shouted.
Hakuryu sighed while Taiyo laughed at him.
As the Akita skidded to a stop in front of the trio, a black and white husky pup followed behind him.
"Ryu! Whose this? Where were you before? I was looking for you to see if you wanted to come get breakfast but you weren't home!"
Looking at both the Akita and Husky, Hakuryu glared. "Your enjoying this aren't you Mamoru."
The Husky laugh. "Of course. It's always fun to watch Isamu wind you up."
"Huh, I'm just curious here Mamoru." The Akita protested.
Sakura quickly becoming confused look to a laughing Taiyo for answers.
"Right, This is Isamu and Mamoru best friends that really should have been twins considering they've been getting in trouble together since birth." Taiyo said.
"We also like Ryu but he tends to disappear a lot." Isamu added.
"Might we know your name miss?" Mamoru asked his green eyes meeting Sakura's.
"Sorry, I'm Haruno Sakura. Taiyo and Hakuryu are bringing me to Chinatsu-sama and Chiharu-sama."
"Hakuryu? Why not just call him Ryu. His name is really long and Ryu is short and easy!" Isamu said
"Well, I mean, don't know." Sakura replied before looking to Hakuryu.
Sighing the German Shepherd nudged Sakura's leg before looking away and grumbling. "You might as well everyone else does."
Taiyo laughed. "And that's Ryu's way of saying yes and that he likes you."
"I like who now! Don't go putting words in my mouth Taiyo!" Ryu shouted before chasing Taiyo around Sakura. The Bloodhound simply laughing as he ran.
"Anyway Sakura, I take it you're the new summoner?" Mamoru asked.
"Yes, but how did you know?" Sakura said.
Isamu interrupted "Mamoru's really smart. But mostly I think its cause they made an announcement yesterday about a new person."
"And now here you are." Mamoru finished for his friend. "But come on lets head towards the Bosses."
"Yeah lets go." Isamu jumps to his feet and goes around Sakura to start pushing her from behind.
Suddenly Hakuryu is pushing Isamu away. "Stop pushing you idiot she's already fallen over enough today!"
"Ahhh, but I was only trying to get her there faster Ryu!" Isamu said before noticing Mamoru walking away. "Hey wait for me Mamoru!"
"Well this has been fun. Shall we continue on Sakura." Taiyo chips in, breathing a bit heavily from his run with Hakuryu.
Laughing Sakura agrees while Hakuryu sticks to her side. To keep idiots away in his own words.
So the group consisting of one human girl and four male puppies made their way down the path winding its way through the hills. Their destination further ahead where Boss summons waited.
A/N I know its short but the next part is longer and I just really wanted to get this part out so you guys can meet the puppies
Please review and let me know what you think of the puppies!
Next time we see More of Kaede and Chiyo.
