'Kay so I know the summary says this is a drabble, and it kind of is, I guess. Maybe a little longer though.

This centres around Itachi and the unnamed lover he is said to have killed during the you-know-what.

Naruto belongs to Kishi (lucky genius son of a gun).

Five days before the massacre, Uchiha Itachi writes a poem.

Uchiha Itachi is not a poetic man, nor is he fond of long-winded descriptions. He is, however, an intellectual, and would sooner be caught dead before he shirked a challenge.

Sable hair and laughing eyes

She bows her head as she dances

Stained crimson in a dying world.

Itachi crumples up his poem in the palm of his hand and burns it to ashes.

Four days before the massacre, Uchiha Itachi is accused of murder.

Uchiha Itachi, despite his renown as a champion of the silent kill, denies the allegations. Instead, he chooses to beat some sense into his hot-headed Uchiha clan members. He refrains from doing too much damage, however. The boys are his flesh and blood, after all.

After the dust settles, Itachi walks back inside the hollow compound. As he turns the corner, her chilly hand grabs his and she whispers that she believes him.

A second passes and she is gone. Later that night Itachi wonders if she had even been there at all.

Three days before the massacre, Uchiha Itachi teaches Sasuke how to make paper boats.

Uchiha Itachi is rarely idle, nor does he enjoy menial tasks. The making of paper boats, however, requires precision and patience. It doesn't matter how ruthless the downpour is, Sasuke. Itachi tells him. Fold it correctly, and your boat will never sink. Predictably, Sasuke nods furiously and folds boat upon boat to impress his nii-san.

It is after Sasuke folds his hundredth boat and dozes off on his futon that she appears. Itachi blinks, wondering how she always enters the room unnoticed. Like a phantom, he thinks.

She giggles at Sasuke and picks up a boat. She turns it over and over, examining it as if it's a freshly cut ruby. She kisses Itachi's cheek, smiles, and drifts away.

The day before the massacre, Uchiha Itachi steps into her room.

Her erratic breathing ghosts over his cheek as he fills her, his fingers tightening around her sides, grasping firmly as if to ensure that she is real and will not slip away. As her hand weaves through his hair, his fragmented mind pieces itself together only to shatter as his release engulfs him. He hears one hundred colours in her sigh.

They lie interlocked for the briefest of eternities before he is gone and she feels that the cold walls are closing in on her.

On the day of the massacre, Uchiha Itachi thinks of nothing but his village.

They are sleeping when he slits their throats. Poor, defenceless lambs slaughtered by the big, bad wolf. He works hard to swallow the bile rising in his throat and bites down on his tongue each time he nearly cries out.

She cracks an eye open when he hovers over her. She does not look at him. All she does is reach out to take his hand. Her blood spatters before he lets her touch him.

On the day of the massacre, Uchiha Itachi loses a part of his humanity.

So there we have it. I hope this didn't seem like I was trying to make Itachi sound like a heartless villain, because the purpose was more to show how a lover might have made him feel whole despite the fact he knew he'd have to kill her. Anyway.
