This started bugging me to be written ages ago, so I wrote it, then forgot about it. Not my best work, but I figured I should throw it out there anyway. *shrugs* Feedback is craved.

"Kazran, trust me," the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor said, exasperated. "It's this or go to your room and design a new kind of screwdriver. Don't make my mistakes. Now, go!" He pushed young Kazran towards Abigail, and found his thoughts drifting backwards to a day in the Academy.

Koschei lounged on his bed in the Academy, reading a book on Ancient Gallifreyan and absentmindedly tapping a rhythm of four with his fingers. He looked up to see a disheveled Theta walk into the room and quickly shut the door behind him. Koschei raised an eyebrow.

"Something wrong, Doctor?" The blonde rolled his eyes at the use of his chosen name. The both thought the names to be rather silly, although they both found great amusement in teasing each other about them, even after all this time.

"No, Master. Just running away from Usha-er, Rani. Again." Koschei rolled his eyes.

"What was she doing this time?" The blonde sighed and sat down on the bed.

"Well, I was in the library looking for a book on that assignment we have to do for History, and then she comes up and starts flirting with me again. Now, normally I just ignore her, but then she tried to kiss me! So I made an excuse about having some science project to work on, and I ran off." Koschei started laughing, oblivious to the glares he was receiving from his friend. "Then I decided I probably should make something in case she asked later, so here's the results!" He pointed a small silver device at the ceiling light, and with a strange whir, the light went out.

"Theta, do you want to be attacked by Vashta Nerada?"

"You've been paranoid ever since we had that lesson on alien species!" Theta sighed, but the lights came back on. Koschei was impressed. "It still doesn't work on wood, though, and I don't know why. Could you help me?"

"Thete, I'm in the middle of a book!"

"Come on, Kosch, you read too much!"

"Says the bookworm."

"It'll be fun."

"Say please."

"Please?" Koschei smirked, rolled his eyes, and put his book down.

"Okay, okay Theta, I'm coming..."

The Doctor sighed as he thought of better times, when life was easier. Looking over at Kazran, he hoped he could make the young man's life happier instead.
