There are male and female Gods of Death, but it is neither permitted, nor possible for them to have sexual relations with humans. The Gods of Death also cannot have sex with each other.

February 7th, 10:15 am; with Ayame and Kagome:

Ayame grunted her displeasure at having her husband taken from her so forcefully by their damn job. She was not allowed to work till after the babies were born. Yes, babies. She was having twins.

She drummed her fingers angrily across Kagome's counter, glaring at the glass of juice in front of her.

"It's not fair!" Ayame huffed out, Kagome was on the other side of the kitchen drinking her coffee, her own heart heavy from the news that L and Quillish Wammy were going to be leaving her soon. But with Ayame so close to her due date (naturally demons were faster to give birth than humans so she would be going to a doctor that was also a demon) Kagome offered for her friend to come over and spend the day at her apartment instead of alone.

"I know Ayame, I know." Kagome sighed as she stared into the swirls of her coffee.

"I wish Kira would stop it with these killings of criminals." Ayame huffed and then pouted, turning her cheek to the side and sticking her nose up in the air. "It's bad for my mate's health chasing and tracking down his sorry ass while dealing with all the problems that it's causing us and everyone around us."

"Like?"

"Well besides the families, obviously, we have the ones who were innocent and wrongly imprisoned and then wrongly killed; we also have prisons actually shutting down which is costing a lot of people their jobs, even a lot of the agents don't have jobs anymore at the police station!" Ayame threw her hands up in the air and then dangled one arm over the back of her chair while the other laid across her eyes. Kagome stared at the demon sitting in front of her bar for a while before continuing to prepare dinner for that night.

With Sayu, 3:22 pm:

Sayu twiddled her thumbs as she sat next to her friend (and school crush) Souta, Kagome's little brother. He rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment as he talked with her in the park at the half way point between both of their homes.

"So you don't live with your sister?"

"Nah, not really. She's in college and all that junk and lives her life. She's too busy to look after me anyways-"

"Well she seems to have a pretty active role in your life, ya think?"

Souta blushed and shrugged, twiddling his thumbs this time and sighed.

"What was it like?" Sayu asked, leaning over closer to him. Souta blushed and leaned away from her and glanced to the sides of their persons quickly.

"Wh-what was what like?"

"Jail, I've never spent the night or even been behind the bars. When dad took me down there I was the one looking in on them and I wasn't allowed back very far."

"Oh…" He rubbed his neck and glanced at her, he had forgotten that her dad was a police officer and now that he has an arrest behind his name will cause a lot more problems for himself later. He sighed before leaning back against the bench and stuffing his hands in his coat pockets since it was starting to get cold again.

"Well, it was kinda scary. My crime was petty compared to some of the others…" His voice trailed off as he stared at the ground. "Some of them murdered others, some of them raped, some of them-" He glanced to her quickly and then blushed brightly, turning his gaze back to the ground before one particular night popped into his mind:

There was complete silence as it was 1:24 in the morning, only the guards footsteps were the breaking of the silence.

Then there was the screaming, one right after another, thumps and then silence. Souta glanced over the top of his bunk with sweat trickling down the back of his neck and his heart beat in his ears.

His cell mate was bent over and his face on the floor.

"It's not an experience I want to re-live." He tells her shortly after his few seconds of silence, a haunted look in his eyes as he glanced to her once again.

The two of them were quiet for a moment as she realized that Kira had a hand in what he saw in one of the nights he was there, and her heart sank deeper into her chest when she knew it was her brother who caused such a thing to happen.

But it was also her brother who spared Souta's life… Sayu had no idea why.

"Here, let's get some hot chocolate and go see a movie or something." Sayu offered, standing up from the bench and dusting off her pants. Souta smiled a small forced one, but truly he was grateful.

With Kagome and L; 7:47 pm, at Kagome's apartment:

L sat on the couch with his legs tucked up to his chin while Kagome jammed her toes under his butt so they could stay warm. The heating in the building decided to go out just hours after Ayame left. She shivered and shuttered and drew the blankets over hers and L's body better.

"Maybe we should just sleep out here." She sighed, wrapping her hands around her hot chocolate better so they could soak up the warmth.

"Your bed preserves heat fairly well." L said, glancing over to her and her red cheeks and red nose.

"You're getting sick." He pointed out, poking the end of her nose. She pouted at him and moved to bite his finger, it retracted though he knew she wouldn't have bitten it. Hard.

"It's the damn cold. The entire complex is without heat till tomorrow at the soonest." She sighed and brushed her hair behind her ears, the paint on her blue dice earrings chipping.

She breathed the sweet smell of her hot chocolate and her eyes closed, and L stared at her while she was finally at peace with the world sniffing a sweet scent.

Really, he couldn't blame her.

She was something else entirely; the way her full bottom lip and smaller upper lip curved together when she smiled or smirked or was even being teasing in the most rueful of ways- it was enough to drive him mad, not that he was fully sane to begin with.

The way her hair fell so enticingly over her shoulder in small curls when it was tied into a pony tail; the way her bangs swooped over her forehead; the way she just existed in the universe and took it all in stride- every challenge, every tough choice or something that should've crippled her for days, or weeks, or months, barely even fazed her. The worst he's seen her was Souta's arrest and she got over that fairly quickly even.

She was… She was smart, she was pretty, and she was something else.

He… He was enraptured be her being. Everything about her pulled him to her, he was by her side always, because truthfully he didn't want to be by anyone else's.

He wasn't going to lie to himself, this Kira investigation was going close to nowhere by now, and it was taking a toll on all of them. His fingers ached, and really so did his brain.

Maybe… Maybe indulging in some selfish desires for a while wouldn't hinder them too much?

"Kagome?" He spoke up finally, breaking her sweet bliss and dragging her back to the reality of her cold apartment lit with candles, an innocent gesture at the time but with what he was about to ask, it may not be taken as such.

"Hmm?" She blinked her bright blue eyes at him, and the sparkle- well, his heart was in his throat and he choked on his question.

"Do you trust me?"

11:03 pm, with Light and Ryuk:

Light was wandering around the city streets with his hands in his coat pockets, a frown and contemplative look to his face, and for once Ryuk wasn't smiling as he floated behind the teenager.

"Light," Ryuk spoke up for the first time in hours. "Why?" And Light knew what the Shinigami was asking: Why didn't Light kill Souta?

"Because, I'm giving him a second chance. Sayu seems to like him, and she's not a stupid girl."

"That's for sure." Ryuk thought to himself as he remembers spending many conversational nights with the young teenager and her vastly curious mind.

"But I am watching him." Light finished, his dark brown eyes gleaming red in the lamp light they passed through.

Also: Would you like L's and Kagome's relationship go by faster or keep it at this tense almost-friendship-almost-not like it has been the last couple of chapters?

Please leave a review too :) Thanks for waiting and thanks for reading guys.
