Lying in the hospital bed with Embry sitting quietly in the seat beside her, Bella finally had time to think. The angry wolf was the thing that her mind unwillingly focused on. When she had first saw him fighting Edward she had almost been, dare she say, relieved by its presence. When the wolf then turned into a man, it had almost seemed like déjà vu, like at some point, one she could not remember, she had witnessed the transformation before. But try as she might, the memories that she grasped so desperately for slipped through her fingers like tiny grains of sand. Her mind then proceeded to flash those hurt brown eyes like broken movie reel and echoed the painful tone of his words, almost demanding that she remedy the situation. Bella had to wonder, for the umpteenth time, who this man to her? She could feel the tug on her heart when he saved her, calling her to his side, but it was all too much to handle without her memories to make the proper connections.

"Embry?" She asked, drawing the corner of her bottom lip between her teeth.

"Yeah?" His head popped up, giving her his undivided attention.

"Who was that guy and what is he to me?" Her eyes focused on his brown ones, scanning them for any sort of information.

He sighed. "Well you know we're wolves…" She nodded. "Well wolves have this thing called imprinting and he…well he imprinted on you. That essentially means he is willing to do anything or be anything for you." She soaked up the new information.

"What exactly do you mean he'll be anything for me?" She had an idea of what it meant but she wanted to make sure she fully understood.

"He really cares for you Bells." Embry stated.

"That doesn't answer my question." She huffed.

His head drooped." You know…" He chuckled, though it was void of any humor. "You actually told me off when you found out that he was your imprint. You told me that you intended to accept the imprint and maybe I should do the same and if it wasn't for those words I would be trying to convince you right now that I love you and you should forget all about him but now I see. I see that he made you whole and that you made him a better person as well. Bella you wanted him, and I could even confidently say that you loved him. He will be anything that you want, a friend, a brother, a lover but you already chose. You need to remember Bella, for your sake and his."

It was a lot to take in. The idea that something happened in a short time to make her forget something so life altering. Suddenly, she got a flash of a memory, one of her slung over someone's shoulder and she was yelling at Embry. She felt a yearning within her heart that made her believe that everything her friend was telling her.

"Do you think that…I could see him?" She asked quietly.

Embry was more than willing to oblige. At first, he had seen her amnesia as a gateway back into her life but the more he thought about it and the conversations they had after she had imprinted, the more he realized that having that type of life with her just wasn't in the cards. "Yeah, but he may not be so inclined to see you though. Not that you did anything wrong, I think he'd be afraid of scaring you or you not recognizing him again. You have to think that it hurts him that you don't remember."

It was Bella's turn to hang her head. "I understand and honestly, if I were in his shoes, I would be the same way. But Embry, I feel something and it scares the hell out of me. His eyes haunt me, his voice sooths me, and I can't stand seeing him hurt. These are my first experiences that I remember and it makes me question my sanity. I don't have any real tangible memories of him but it's like I subconsciously have these feelings towards him. When I first saw him that's all I had were these feelings coming out of nowhere with no memories to go with them, it just made for an odd first meeting with only those bits. Does that make sense?"

Embry nodded.

"Maybe…maybe you can tell me about the first time I met him and it might help my memories come back." Bella suggested.

Embry proceeded to recount the details of Bella and Paul's first encounter. She laughed when he told her of her wicked right hook and she felt like utter crap when he recounted of her rejection him, she could see the pain simmering within those eyes she had hoped would one day look at her with love. But she could understand where she had been coming from. Even now she saw it; if she cared for Paul as much as Embry indicated then she would've chosen Paul despite Embry's declaration of love. The funny part was that it had been something she had wanted to hear from him after their first night together. But even now, even after losing her memories of Paul, she felt no flutter of her heart or surge of giddiness when Embry had told her he loved her.

There must be something with Paul then, there has to be. She conceded to herself. No quicker had she had accepted that thought a memory rose to the surface, one of her and Paul standing in the woods, their bodies touching and their lips inches apart. It was then she knew that she had to get the rest of her memories back, if not for her own sanity, then for Paul.

Paul had taken up sanctuary in his house, which he very rarely used. Sitting in the sparely furnished living room he thought more about what Charlie had said to him. The older man knew what he was talking about, Paul concluded. He had been so caught up in the fact that Bella didn't remember him that he didn't take into consideration how she must feel. He suddenly felt like a failure. She was his imprint, he was supposed to put her needs before his own but in the heat of the moment he hadn't. He had been more concerned with his ego and his feelings and not hers; well not until she had become frightened of him. That was what had him crashing back down to reality.

He decided right then that he wouldn't approach her until she was ready, whether that meant her asking for him or her memories returning.

Charlie slid into his cruiser and turned the siren on without a second thought. His daughter, his baby, was found and he needed to go see her both as a father and the Chief of Police. Within seconds he was speeding towards the hospital. From the corner of his eye he saw a brief flash, almost like a diamond glistening in the sunlight. Brushing it off he refocused his eyes back on the road, that was until he swore he saw a human like figure staring at him from the side of the road. He did a double take and the figure was gone. Instead of stopping and checking it out, like he normally would, he sped up, intent on getting to the hospital as quick as possible.

Edward had devised a plan to get to Bella since he was sure the wolves would be watching her closely. All he had to do was go after the one cared for that wouldn't be protected; her dad. The voices cackled in agreement to his mad plan, pushing him further and further into madness.

Soon, he thought, it would all come to a glorious end.

A/N. So I know that I've been lacking in the updating department and for that I am sorry. I will try my best to keep updating on a better schedule than once a year.
