Frank sat comfortably in his spot at the court room as he shuffled his papers ready to present what he had found to the jury. He was happy to no longer see the judge instead 12 people ready to give his daughter a chance at life.
She had been in that prison for over 2 months and he was ready to bust her out. Frank looked over to the psychiatrist as he sat nervously shaking his hands as he awaited the judge. Gwen was sat behind him hands cuffed and restrained as she wore a white long top and white trousers. Her hair was down and she looked tired and very beaten up. He could only assume that the doctor had beaten her to a pulp after they had left.
Frank had made Gwen admit everything to the men.
He felt sorry for her but he knew the sacrifice was worth it; with the evidence he had Gwen would probably only spend another month in a low security prison. The judge entered making Frank smile.
It was a fragile dark skinned woman.
She was a tough woman but fair. Frank stood up, everyone else followed standing. Gwen remained seated not strong enough to stand on even the only leg she had. The judge noticed her not moving and noted it before sitting down. The jury entered and soon Frank sat back and so did everyone else as the judge read over Gwen's file. "Miss Tennyson" Gwen looked over to the woman. "You pleaded guilty to man slaughter as an act of self defense?" She tilted her glasses as she stared over to the girl.
"Yes mam" Gwen answered.
"Care to explain to me what happened?"
"My cousin was being attacked. They were going to kill him. I just wanted to save my cousin and I ended up being caught in the cross fire. They shot me in the leg and hit me with a crowbar before they turned their attention to my cousin, it was an act of self defense. I thought my cousin and I were going to die that night" Gwen shivered from the cold. She lifted her hands scratched her cheek as the judge stared at her. "You saved the universe with your cousin?"
Gwen nodded.
"How many times?"
"More than I can count" Gwen smirked by the thought. She turned to her cousin sitting down on the opposite side of the room and smiling at her. Gwen turned to the judge. She turned to Frank. "Mr Tennyson you are trying to get your daughter removed from the prison psychiatric facility as well as a reduced sentence of a month?" She asked. "Yes, mam" Frank answered. "On what grounds?"
"My daughter, was acting in self defense, she was denied medical care which caused her to lose her leg, she was constantly beaten, abused and sexually assaulted by her own doctor. She is a hero and doesn't deserve this" The judge looked over to Gwen's only leg. "Miss Tennyson will you please stand up?" She asked. Gwen bit her lip grabbing onto the chair in front of her as she struggled to stand. The male guard took her arm helping her up. It was the first time Gwen had stood since she had damaged her leg. Gwen winced her legs not strong enough to stand before she collapsed luckily Ben moved over grabbing her in time before she fell. He helped her up allowing her to sit down as the guard shoved him away.
"Thanks" Gwen whispered over to his cousin as he sat down opposite her making sure she wouldn't fall again. The judge looked over to the doctor.
"Mr. Tennyson. Doctor Sake is a renowned Psychiatrist known to help many of his patients work out their issues. What evidence do you have to prove that he is in fact what you claim?" The judge asked him. Frank stood up with a file of photos, interview evidence and video footage. This is from the security cameras at the prison" Frank passed them to her.
She passed them over to the officer and he played it onto the screen. They watched as the doctor walked into the office and strap the girl into the torture chair. He punched her in the mouth over and over until she was choking on blood. Scenes replayed and repeated. Him fondling her at night in her room as she was unconscious. Him beating her up. Him assaulting her in the bathroom striping her off and restraining her. Lastly, it was the day before when he had belted her over his and sexually assaulted her.
Frank turned the video off before looking over to the girl who avoided looking at the video. He was heart broken seeing her face; she looked completely broken and embarrsed seeing the video.
She lowered her head trying to hide herself from the prying eyes of the people around her.
"I'm sorry Gwen" He whispered walking up to her about to hug her but the officer stopped her from allowing him to touch her.
"She's dangerous" He told him but he shook his head. "Do you really think a girl who can barely even walk let alone move is dangerous" Frank barked at the man. He then turned to the judge.
"Why does she deserve to be locked up in a maximun security prison when she can't exactly move?"
Gwen lowered her head even further before placing her hands up hiding herself from the shame. She wanted her strength and powers back. She wanted her leg back. Gwen sighed before turning to Ben. He gave her a forced smile. Gwen tried to smile back but it didn't get too far. She turned to see her grandma staring back at her. She smiled at Verdona happy her family was there for her.
At least she wasn't facing this alone.
"I call Gwen Tennyson up to the stand" Gwen turned to see the Psychiatrists lawyer standing there staring at her. One of the guards grabbed her arm pushing her into her wheel chair before rolling her up to the stand. Gwen stared nervously at the amount of people in the room. All seats were taken up and people was over two dozen people standing at the back of the hall in silence. Gwen gulped before the lawyer grabbed her attention. "Miss Tennyson, did you or did you not murder three men?" He asked her. Gwen leaned forward into the microphone.
"No," She answered looking over to her Dad for consolation. The lawyer was stunned by her answer. "But we have records of you shooting three men in cold blood? Are you that delusional that you believe you didn't kill them?" He asked.
Gwen arched her eyebrow.
"I killed them, by accident, but I didn't murder them. I never planned it. I was acting in self-defense and self defense alone"
"But don't you have super powers, Miss Tennyson. You could have easily of knocked them out instead of committed man-slaughter" He leaned in closer getting all in her face. Gwen looked back over to her dad for reassurance. "I can only use my powers when I have energy. I had spend the last two weeks looking for my cousin. I travelled to Alaska and was exhausted. When I found him he was being attacked. Despite the fact that I was on the verge of collapsing I put myself in harms way to save my family. I'm sorry for what happened. If I could go back in time and have more energy I would but I love my cousin; I love my family and I'm not going to let anyone hurt them" She narrowed her eyes at him.
He glared at her.
"Miss Tennyson, you have been through many bad and life-threatening experiences. You've been kidnapped, beaten, been in many fights, had your powers taken away. This has lead you to suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder even schizophrenia"
"I don't suffer from any mental health issues" Gwen crossed her arms.
"What medication are you on?" He asked.
Gwen narrowed his eyes at him refusing to answer the question. To be truthful, she didn't even know herself. The doctor had been pumping her full of so much meds that Gwen had lost count. She knew she had taken some to sleep every know and then. "Objection, Your Honor" Frank stood up. "What does any of this have to do with Gwendolyn's freedom?"
The judge looked over to the lawyer knowing that he was trying to say that she was mad. "My Fredichs, what is the point of this?" The judge asked. "Miss Tennyson has been deemed unsafe to be around for a reason"
"Objection your honor"
"I'll allow it"
Frank stood up.
"Gwendolyn, can you please stand up" He asked his daughter. Gwen's eyes widened. She gulped shakingly bringing her hands up to the side of the wheel chair and lifting her upper body up. She moved her body forward allowing her foot to touch the cold ground. Gwen winced whimpering lightly as she placed all her weight onto her only leg. She yelped collapsing as her leg gave way. Gwen grabbed onto the bench trying to grab something that would stop her from falling. The redhead eventually allowed herself to fall to the ground beside her wheel chair. Sweat rolled down her forehead as she breathed intently. One of the guards came up to her and grabbed her arm. Gwen winced her eyes as he pulled her back into her seat. Frank walked up to her checking that she was alright. He then turned to the judge. "Your Honor, my daughters not a threat. She's 16 years old and she's still in school" Frank told the judge. Gwen smiled at him.
The court continued for over an hour. Frank delivered an incredible speech, the jury voted and Gwen leaned forward as they arrived back in the court room. One man on the end stood up. "Your honor, we find the defendent not guilty"
Gwen's eyes widened. The judge noticed the gasps in the room. "Miss Tennyson, you are to be released from the psychiatric facility for the criminally insane immediately. You will be on post-bail. any illegal acts for 6 months will terminate your probation. Do you understand, Miss Tennyson?"
"Doctor, you have been found guilty of misconduct and abusing your rights as a professional. You will be placed under arrest and your court trial will begin tomorrow" The doctor looked over to his lawyer angrily as he was made to stand up by a nearby police officer. He placed cuffs on his wrists and led him out of the hall. Gwen smiled as a police officer removed her cuffs.
She watched as her family came up hugging her tightly. Gwen smirked tears of happiness streaming down her cheeks. Saundra brushed her tears away with her thumb. Gwen looked up at her and hugged her.
"Thank you" She whispered before looking over to her dad. She hugged him so tightly that he could feel the pain her crushing his ribs. "Thanks you, thank you so much" She sniffed tears streaming down her pale cheeks. Frank hugged her back gently.
"Come on, Gwenny. Let's get you home" Lily whispered. Ben took hold of the back of the wheel chair. Gwen looked over to him kissing his cheek. "Thank you" She whispered.
Kevin smiled as he sat down next to Gwen. He wrapped an arm around her and held her tightly. Gwen frowned looking over to Ben. He could see the pain in his eyes as Kevin held her tightly and kissed her cheek.
"Kevin..stop..." She mumbled. Kevin stared at her in the eyes.
"What's wrong?" He asked her. "I'm just not feeling it" Gwen answered truthfully. He looked over to the stairs before looking over to the family and guests standing around and talking. "Why don't we go upstairs to your room" He purred in her ear. Gwen bit her lip before looking over to Kevin. "Yeah, I need to talk to you in private" Gwen whispered before Kevin grabbed her in a bridal style position carrying her up the stairs. Ben watched from afar before deciding to follow them. Kevin placed her down on her bed before closing her door.
Ben bent down next to the door easedropping on their conversation.
Gwen sat up straight as Kevin came over and sat down next to her. He took hold of her holding her tightly before moving her forward fondling her. Gwen winced shaking her head. "Kevin, stop" She told him pushing him back. "Gwen, what's wrong?" He asked. Gwen sighed feeling sick to her stomach. "I can't do this" She mumbled. Kevin's eyes widened. "What are you talking about?" He was starting to get mad. "Are you seeing someone else?" He asked. Gwen gulped. "I...no...it's not like that" Gwen winced her eyes staring down at her only leg. "I'm sorry Kevin, I want to break up" She mumbled. Kevin eyes narrowed at her. He grabbed her shirt raising her up. "WHO ARE YOU SEEING?" He yelled at her shaking her. Gwen winced her eyes. "ANSWER ME"
"..Ben..." She whispered barely audible but Kevin heard her.
"...Your cousin?"
Gwen bit her lip nodding. He dropped her to the floor before getting ontop of her grabbing her top. "WHY THE HELL DO YOU LOVE YOUR COUSIN. THAT'S SICK" He yelled at her. Ben barged in tackling him off his cousin.
"LEAVE HER ALONE" He yelled as the two got into a fight. Kevin gritted his teeth punching Ben in the temple as Gwen tried to get up and get her parents. She continued to collapse as her cousin continued to fight the man.
"MUM, DAD" She screamed. Ben beat Kevin several times in the face before grabbing a lamp on Gwen's desk smashing him over the face. Kevin instantly collapsed to a pulp as feet hit the stairs. Saundra instantly grabbed her and helped her up as Frank, Carl and Max split the two up. Verdona turned to her granddaughter. "Are you okay, Kiddo?" Verdona asked. Gwen nodded before turning to the two boys being restrained. Blood gushed down Kevin's forehead as he gritted his teeth. Ben's left eyebrow was cut wide open and blood was pouring like a waterfall down his cheek.
Verdona, Saundra and Lily helped Gwen sit down on the bed and comfort her as the boys were told off by the men. "What happened here?" Frank crossed his arms. "Gwen broke up with Kevin and he had a melt down" Ben answered. Gwen stared up at him in shock worried to death if her cousin had heard her admit that she liked him. "Were you easedropping on us?" Kevin yelled at him. "No!" Ben bit back but it was obvious that he was telling the truth. "Let's get you two cleaned up then you can leave Kevin" Carl told him.
Both boys nodded before looking over to his cousin checking to make sure she was okay. He forced a smile as Kevin was led down stairs. "Mum, aunt Lily, do you mind if Gwen and I had a word with each other?" He asked. Both women turned to each other. "I don't see why not" Saundra shrugged standing up. Lily walked over to him passing him a towel.
"I think we should have a look at your eyebrow first" Carl told him.
"I'll get it fixed up after I talk to Gwen" He turned to her. Gwen gulped as the parents walked out the room leaving the two teens alone. Gwen stared up at her cousin worriedly. She sighed looking down at her hands.
"You heard everything, didn't you?" She didn't bother looking up at him. Ben didn't answer her. After a minute silence Gwen leaned under her bed and grabbed a large first aid kit. She then sat back and patted at the sheets signalling him to come sit next to her despite avoiding any eye contact. Ben chose to be silent and followed her direction sitting down next to her as she removed a cloth and a bottle of antiseptic from the box.
"You keep the box to clean yourself up after the alien fights?" Ben smirked at her but she avoided looking at her.
"This is gonna sting a little" She mumbled placing the antiseptic covered cloth on his eyebrow. Ben winced his eyes in pain as he hissed. "Ah, that stings" He complained. Gwen rolled her eyes before she removed the cloth. She then grabbed three small stitch bandages and placed them over his cut. "Ah, thanks" He smiled at her but she continued to look away. Gwen placed the first aid kit away. "Gwen, you shouldn't be embarrassed" He whispered. Gwen's closed her eyes gently as she stared at her hands. "Did you hear everything?" Gwen asked.
"..Yeah..." Ben nodded. Gwen looked over to him. "I'm sorry" She whispered. Ben frowned. He took her chin in his thumb and first finger making her look at him. "Gwen, you have nothing to apologise for?" He informed her. Gwen tried to look away but he made her look at him. "I understand if you don't feel the same" She whispered. Ben leaned in closer to her capturing her lips in his. She stared at him shocked and bewildered. "Gwen, you're not just my best-friend, you're also my soul-mate.
Gwen I've had a crush on you ever since we were 10, I was just so afraid to tell you in case you didn't feel the same way" He told her. Gwen breathed in smiling. She leaned forward wrapping her arms around him pushing him down on her bed and kissing him with passion. Ben giggled fondling her as they made out. "Ben, I think I lov-"
'knock, knock'
Gwen sighed looking over cousin. She removed herself off him and straightened up. "Come in"
Lily opened the door to see the two teenagers sitting there. Gwen looked at her mother.
"Hey, mum" Gwen smiled at her. Lily smiled warmly at her daughter. She walked up to her and brushed a lock behind her ear trying to neaten her up. "Kevin's gone home; do you two want to come down stairs for dinner?" She asked. Gwen smiled nodding. Ben placed a hand on Gwen's back and behind her legs. He picked her up and carried her bridal style down stairs with Lily in toe.
Frank wrapped the rest of the present up as the trio came down stairs. Ben placed Gwen down on the couch and sat down next to her as Lily walked over to two bowls of chocolate sundae before passing it to the two of them. "Lily, I don't think you should be giving the kids chocolate. I mean that stuffs poison" Saundra told her as Lily rolled her eyes.
"They'll be fine, Saundra" Lily answered as Gwen picked up her spoon taking a bite before looking over to her dad hiding a large present behind him and Max. "What is that?" She asked.
"Gwen, everyone pitched in and brought you a present" He picked up the present and sat it on her lap. Ben took her bowl and placed it down on the table. Gwen smiled.
"I picked it out for you" He told her. Gwen giggled lightly as she slowly unwrapped the present.
She noticed the white box and arched her eyebrow before turning it round and opening the box. She took hold of the side of the object and attempted to pull it out. It was heavy so Ben decided to help her pull it out. Gwen arched her eyebrow and stared down at the silver and steel prosthetic leg.
"It's electronic. It bends and everything. It's the latest technology in prosthetics"
Gwen forced a nervous smile before pulling her trouser leg up.
Gwen took hold of the sides of the device and slipped it on her leg. She then stood up taking hold of Ben's arm as he helped her up.
She wobbled lightly before the crushing itching pain began to set in on the stump of her leg.
She winced her eyes in pain as her hold on Ben's jacket tightened too terrified to let go.
"Gotta sit down" Gwen mumbled as she winced from the pain. Ben grabbed her round the back and held onto her trying to loosen the weight before allowing her to sit down in a comfortable position.
Everyone's eyes landed on the vulnerable girl unable to stand.
She leaned onto her cousin closing her eyes tiredly seeking comfort and support from him. He held her closely in a loving and warm embrace trying to give her as much attention and consolidation as she needed right now.
Verdona took a step forward swiping her hand at the air and clinckling her nose. "Oh this is not what Gwen needs right now" She came up to Gwen removing the robotic device from her and shoving it into Ben's lap. "Common Dearie. I got something that will make you feel better"
Gwen stared up at the old woman as she took her hand and stared down into her fragile eyes. Soon enough Verdona's eyes began to glow and the two were transported into Gwen's room.
The redhead's eyes widened as she found herself on her own bed leaning on the wall supporting her shoulders and upper back.
Her hands were kept by either side of her waist as her legs relaxed straight out onto the comfortable sheets.
Verdona gently slid over to the door locking it so noone could invade their privacy. "W-What are you doing?" The girl asked worriedly.
A smiled crept on Verdona's face as she turned her head acknowledging the girl's presence.
"Relax Kiddo, nothing bad is going to happen to you" She walked over to the girl sitting down beside the stump of her leg. Verdona gave the girl a warm smile before she slid her granddaughters trousers up. Gwen flinched uncomfortably. She sat up further keeping her leg away from her grandmother.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"I just want to see it, Kiddo" She replied in a safe and calm manner. Gwen bit her bottom lip before relaxing a little and pulling up her trouser leg for her grandma to see. Verdona frowned at what was left of the leg.
The alien placed both hands on either side of the girl's thigh before looking up at her granddaughter. "I don't want to alarm you, Gwen, but this is going to sting a little"
Gwen's eyes lit up. "What are you going to do to my leg?" She asked frightened.
Verdona smirked wickedly like she was up to something.
"Try to relax, deary"
Gwen's eyes widened before she acknowledged the fact that their was pretty much no escape. She moved herself to lie her head down on her pillow before she told Verdona to proceed.
The old woman's hands and eyes lit up and in an instance Gwen felt a burning sensation pulse throughout her leg.
Gwen eyes winced in pain as she gritted onto the sheets trying to maintain the pain digging like pins and needles straight through her skin. In less than a minute the pain had submersed. Gwen opened her left eyes to see Verdona smiling at her. "What...happened?" Gwen asked. "Your face" She stared at the bruised sores running all down her delicate face.
Verdona placed both hands around her cheeks and allowed her eyes to light up. In an instance all the injuries were gone.
Gwen took a deep breath out before Verdona sat up and took a step back from her daughter.
Gwen allowed herself to sit up and hold her face no longer saw from any injuries. No longer in any pain. She then noticed her leg there. In front of her. She grabbed it feeling her soft skin and flesh. Gwen shook her head gasping tears streaking down her face. She stared over to her grandma smiling. "Thank you, thank you, thank you" She stood up hobbling as she grabbed her grandma hugging her tightly. She cried into her grandma's cloak as Verdona helped her.
"I..I have to show Ben" She told her. Verdona clicked her fingers and in an instance they were back in the main room with her family. She hobbled over to Ben who was still sitting on the couch. "My leg" She whispered to him. Everyone turned and heard. "She fixed my leg" Gwen lifted her trouser leg up and showed Ben and the rest of her family.
Lily came down next to her brushing her leg as Ben and the boys stared awestruck by what the alien was capable of. Frank walked up to his mother thanking her even Lily hugged the woman telling her that she was welcome to come and stay whenever the woman pleased.
Of course it really meant nothing to Verdona; she was just happy to see her granddaughter smiling and happy again. Frank hugged Verdona tightly as he stared over to his daughter.
He placed a hand on her side taking a quick look at her leg before looking over to see the thousands of dollar worth prosthetic limp.
'Wonder if they'll let me return it?' He thought to himself.
Ben slept silently in his bed until he heard a knock on his window. He winced his eyes in pain before looking over to his phone.
Turning it on he checked the time. 4AM in the morning. He heard another knock at the window before looking over to it and standing up. He slowly walked over to the window opening the blinds only to see his cousin in her running clothes breathing heavily with a smile on her face. Ben opened the window allowing his cousin entrance to his room.
"Gwen, what are you doing here?" He asked her.
"I've been running. Everywhere" She gasped breathing in sweating heavily. Ben helped her sit down on his bed before allowing her to sit down on his bed.
"Sit here, i'll grab you a glass of water" He raced out the door before coming back in a minute later with a glass of warm water.
"Here Gwen" He smiled passing it to her. Gwen gulped it all down before turning to her cousin. "I've been running all across Bellwood" She told him. Ben arched an eyebrow. "Why?" He asked curious. Gwen smirked.
"Why wouldn't I, I'm finally out of prison, I have my leg back and I'm finally free" Gwen smiled.
"And" She stood up. "I finally have a chance to do this" She grabbed his shirt kissing him lips. Ben's eyes widened flinching before sinking in and kissing his cousin back.
He placed his hands on her waist before deepening the kiss.
Gwen smiled on the inside placing her hand on the back of his head and holding him closer. Ben pulled her over to his bed pushing her down before crawling ontop of her capturing her lips in his over and over again before...
"Ben?"
both turned wide eyed to see Saundra at the door rubbing her eyes as she stared at the both of them caught in the act like a deer in headlights. "mum?"
"Aunt Saundra"
Both pushed off each other straightening themselves up.
"It's not what it looks like" Ben tried to explain.
"Ben was just helping me...rest" Gwen tried to think of an excuse but no good ones came out. She sighed thinking about her dumb excuse before turning to see Saundra smiling at the two of them. Ben thought she was about to grab him by the ear but she smiled instead walking over to Ben.
"Oh I'm so proud of you" She hugged him tightly. Ben turned to his cousin asking her silently. Gwen shrugged signalling him to just go with it.
"Proud of me?" He asked his mother. "Of course, you have a wonderful girlfriend oh and, hopefully, fiancee, one day of course"
Gwen blushed as Saundra turned to her. "I'm so happy for you both" Saundra hugged her niece. Gwen smiled hugging her tightly.
"You're not mad?" Ben asked.
"Of course not" She smiled letting go of the girl.
"I'm just a little disappointed you didn't tell me earlier"
Both Gwen and Ben blushed shyly.
"Oh, I see" Saundra caught on to their looks.
"So you're not upset that we're cousins?" Gwen asked gently.
Saundra took the girls hands in hers. "True love can be hard to find, I always knew you and Ben were drawn to each other ever since you returned home from your Summer camping with Ben I could instantly tell you two loved each other. I know you two are scared because you're cousins but no one should stand in the way of your love, especially if it's as genuine as yours" Saundra told the both of them. Gwen turned to hear her cousin sniffing about to cry.
"Are...Are you crying?" Gwen asked him.
"No," Ben turned his face away from the two women. "There's just...something in my eye. That's all" He replied rubbing his eyes.
"Wait what about my parents? They won't understand. They'll keep Ben and I apart" Gwen practically begged the woman but Saundra just smiled warmly. "Carl and I have already had this discussion many times with them. You don't need to worry Gwen, your parents just want what's best for you"
Gwen smiled back.
"Besides, I don't think you have to worry about being cousins" Saundra removed her hands from the girl. "It's not like your cousin's not human, it's like she's not even related" She walked out before both the teens mouth hanged down.
