Part Five Note: Final part of the story! Most of this is added in, because the movie doesn't have that big of a finale. I'm kind of sad to end this story, but I had fun writing it! You guys were the best readers ever – however, if you want a princess-like story, go check out my story THE SELECTION. You'll probably like it too, and thank you so much for reading! xx
ANNABETH
The room was dimly lit – the only light shining in under the door. It was a large room, grander than those at home. The open doors to the balcony, giving a beautiful view of the ocean, let the warm summer air fill the room. There was one of the biggest beds I'd ever seen along one of the walls. Various other furniture objects sat around the room in their proper places. Swords, shields and armor sat where they'd been thrown Hades-knows-when ago. Chests sat along the walls just inside the door where the maids had been instructed to leave them earlier today.
It'd been two months, but it felt almost like a lifetime. My room was three halls and a commons area away from this room, but I would only be staying in it for one more night. Then, when I returned a month from now, I'd move into a brand new suite in a different wing on the opposite side of the palace.
The room was painted various shades of blue; the floor looked black even though I knew it was actually a shaggy gray carpet. The moon shone in through the doors, not a cloud in sight. For my first few nights, I worried about the open doors; however we were too high up for anything remotely threatening to get in.
I could hear the soft crashing of the waves in the distance and crickets chirping every so often. My skirt brushed against the ground as I walked towards the bed. The dress I slept in tonight was worth more than everything I'd ever owned for the first seventeen years of my life. It was a silky silver colored dress. It had no straps and apart from the gemmed bodice, simply hung to the ground. I had lots of dresses similar to this one. The only bad thing about these dresses was they were extremely delicate; meaning when I spent alone time with Percy, I usually couldn't wear them again.
I walked up to the raised bed. The rumpled blankets and scattered pillows rising and sinking every so often were the only signs that there was a boy sleeping in it. He laid face up, his bare chest basking in the moonlight. His arms were raised above his head. His face was peaceful in sleep and still exceedingly handsome. Even after two months, I still loved him as much as I had the first night we met.
I sat on the edge of the bed, tracing the contours of his face. "I was beginning to think you weren't coming." He spoke, letting me know he wasn't asleep. His voice sounded exhausted and slight guilt rushed through me. He'd been gone for more than half of the month, finalizing business with his father and uncles, and it'd been too long since I'd seen him.
I smiled, staring into his now open sea green eyes. He smiled back his cute crooked grin, the one I could now no longer resist, and pulled back the sheets covering the lower half of his body.
I crawled up into the middle of the bed next to him and he shifted so he was lying on his side. I curled up with my back pressing against his chest. I just wanted to lay here with him, but Percy had other ideas.
He pulled away and faster than should be humanly possible, he hovered over me. His strong arms held his weight, but his body pressed against mine. My hands gripped the back of his neck and pulled his head down to mine. His mouth was so warm; the caress of his lips softer than I could have imagined.
We hadn't talked about getting married. Partly because when we'd arrived that day, we hadn't had any time to. The other part was I couldn't live without him; and judging from our actions that first night, I had the feeling he felt the same way. There was an unspoken agreement between us that we'd get married, but Percy had given me a proper proposal a couple nights after he'd found me.
Percy's head dipped down to my neck and began to kiss the one spot just behind my ear. I couldn't help myself as a low moan escaped my lips. I raked my hands up and down his chest, before clasping them behind his back and pulling him closer to me.
This didn't give me the reaction I was hoping for. He pulled away chuckling lightly. "Needy tonight, aren't we?"
I growled and knotted my hands in his hair to pull him into another fiery kiss. I'd waited too long already; I wanted him. I wanted him to belong to me, and only me; nobody else. I'd told him this of course.
"Not yet, my love," He spoke against my lips. And this was always his answer. "Tomorrow,"
"One night won't make a difference!"
"Then we can wait. I want to do this right," He comforted me. He shifted his weight onto his elbows and rested his chin on my chest. "I want to do this when I can rightfully call you mine…my wife."
"Well… I am your future bride…"
"But tomorrow you won't be. Trust me, it'll be more special when we're alone and nobody can interrupt us."
I sighed, thinking of that awful night when Triton had walked in on the two of us. Luckily we had just been messing around, nothing serious, but I did not need his older brother walking in on the two of us having sex. I knew we should and would wait, but I could always hope. I was a needy girl and Percy spoiled me. I was supposed to be in my room sleeping, because some people insisted on following tradition and I was officially forbidden to see Percy tomorrow until I walked down the aisle. But seeing how it was after midnight, I guess it already was tomorrow. Thalia and Piper were in charge of getting me ready, but seeing how both of them hadn't gone through what I had neither of them knew how impossible it was to do as they asked. I'd just have to return the favor when Piper married Jason in a couple months. I smiled at the thought.
"What is it?"
"How early do think Thalia will come in here to drag me away?"
"Hmm," He breathed. "Seeing how the ceremony begins at ten forty five, I imagine she'll be in here in…" he looked over at a clock on his nightstand "About four and a half hours."
The ceremony would be a nice quiet one, with only his family and our closest friends. I hadn't bothered to send an invitation to my step family. They would have to hear the stories like the rest of country. The royal family did have a wedding planner, but I'd refused to have this woman plan my wedding. She could only be twenty, but was the 'expert'.
She'd wanted a huge wedding in the palace, as many guests as we could hold, and this huge white dress with layers of ruffles, a high collar and a corset. Apparently the prince needed to have a traditional wedding. I went along with it for a little while, because nobody would actually listen to my opinions, but I put my foot down when she made me try the dress on. It was hideous – even more than Rachel's dress for the ball.
I'd stormed out of the room, ignoring the yells and protests of the advisors, King, and Queen, longing to rip things off of my dress. I stormed down the stairs searching for the two princes, who had the day off. Luck was with me, because Triton was laughing at something Percy had said when he saw on me. He looked at me in shock, pointing. I'd gotten teary eyed, and a few kisses later Percy had stormed upstairs to talk to his parents. The wedding planner was gone before dinner, and Aphrodite had gladly taken on the task of helping me plan my dream wedding.
Percy rolled over off of me and faced me again. "You should sleep. You have a big day ahead of you, Annabeth." That was another thing I loved about being with Percy – nobody had called me Cinderella in months. It was forgotten.
I fought the urge to giggle. "So do you, plus I've already had a few hours of sleep – you haven't."
He pressed his lips to my forehead and I could feel his smile. Then he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me to him. "I love you, Percy."
I fell asleep to him whispering the same.
"Annabeth!" The hissed whisper woke me from the depths of sleep. Something poked my cheek so I rolled over burying my face in the warm body next to me.
"Annabeth! Get up, we've got to get out!" The voice was Piper's. I mumbled something, but she shook me. "You've got two minutes before Thalia storms in your room to get you up. If she doesn't find you…"
Her threat didn't need to finish. I sat up, eyes half open and allowed my best friend to drag me out of bed. She led me down the hall but we didn't make it before Thalia's furious growl erupted from what sounded like my room.
"We went to meet her in her room, but she wasn't there!" I explained, not wanting to get butchered by a sleep-deprived Thalia. Piper nodded and we picked up the pace. There were maids rushing around with towels, dresses, nail polish and various other items. I imagine somewhere else in the palace, other maids were setting up.
The ceremony would be held on a cliff overlooking the white sand beach and it was absolutely perfect. Aphrodite had had a great idea to leave seats for my parents and Percy's mother, which would be left empty.
The reception was going to be held in a secluded garden by the lagoon. Glittery lights we'd set up yesterday hung everywhere, tables were set up where people could mingle and get to know each other, and Aphrodite had set up various other details to make this night perfect. More people would be attending the reception, unfortunately including my stepfamily, mainly for Aphrodite's amusement. Luckily, Percy and I had warned everybody to be wary of them.
"You! Where were you?! I specifically told you that-"
"Why weren't you in your room?" I interrupted, pretending to be irritated. I disliked getting up early just as much as she did and she knew it. "You lectured me for an hour yesterday about not seeing Percy and being up at this hour; then we go to your room and you're not there!"
"I could have sworn I said to meet here, but oh well. And Annie, I'm sorry I've been so hard on you. I just want you to have a perfect wedding, since I'm not getting mine – you deserve to be happy!" Her eyes were wide and I knew she meant it.
Her parents were insisting she marry Luke, but she was hesitant. At my request, Poseidon had spoken to her father and had convinced him to give her some time to find a suitable man she wanted to marry. Neither mentioned I'd been the one to suggest it, but Thalia was taking it seriously. She was looking thoroughly but hadn't found anybody she was crazy about.
"It might be better to do it in yours." Piper piped up. "I thought of it last night. Cause think about it, Annabeth is going to listen to you – but will Percy? He'll come looking for her and you won't be able to stop him. But your cousin doesn't know which room you're staying in. We tell the maids to be quiet and he won't find her until we want him to!"
Thalia laughed and began to lead the way back to her room. I thought that because it was only five in the morning, most of our guests would still be asleep. I was wrong. I saw a majority of my half of the wedding party on the way, some of them just getting out of bed and others completely ready and helping others. Thalia was somewhere in between. Her hair and make-up were done, but she was still in her pajamas – which consisted of pants and tight fitting shirt.
Despite the wedding only being close friends and family, it was still pretty large. The wedding party consisted of: myself, Percy, my four bridesmaids, my maid of honor, the four groomsmen, Percy's best man, the flower girl and the ring bearer. Percy had a huge family and Aphrodite had insisted we invite them all or else we'd have to deal with offended relatives.
Thalia's room was a madhouse and the rest of the morning flew by. I was primped, polished, fed, dressed and fussed over like no other. The next thing I knew, I was dressed in my wedding gown riding over to the venue with Thalia and my bridesmaids. The dress itself was gorgeous – it was a romantic A-line gown. It had a fitted bodice with a flattering v-shaped neckline, featuring lace. The skirt was beautiful and full, but not too full, with organza. The waist was defined by a beautiful white, silk corset under the lace of the gown. (AN: I altered it a little bit, because I wasn't too fond of the front, but I love the back of the dress – so imagine! Link on my profile, BTW)
My hair had been styled into loose beach waves; then twisted up into a beautiful up do. There was a floral like organza hairpiece which pulled it together and allowed the back of the dress to be seen. I once again wore my glass slippers – which Percy practically begged me to wear. They'd been put away where they were safe when I arrived at the palace and I hadn't had a chance to wear them since.
I'd personally wanted to wear different shoes, preferably some nice sandals, but Aphrodite had agreed with my husband-to-be. She said they would be a beautiful touch to our story. No doubt I'd be asked to tell the story of that night which was something I had yet to do. It seemed too personal to reveal to everybody what had happened. Nobody knew it was actually Aphrodite who'd given me the dress, so maybe I would tell it just so they knew she was really behind it.
We pulled up and there were five white tents set up, far enough away from where the ceremony would take place that they wouldn't show up in pictures but close enough we could walk to wherever we needed to be. I was ushered into one to wait until it was finally time to get this show on the road.
Of course, this gave me a perfect opportunity to think about last minute nerves. As I sat on a plush, white couch, I couldn't help the thoughts that flew through my mind. What if he changes his mind? What if he says no and marries somebody else? What if he walks away?
"How much longer do we have?" Silena called, rushing through the door. It didn't appear like anybody was there to answer her. Piper and Thalia came running in right behind her. They were chattering, asking about the time, and touching me up all at the same time. One of them asked me if I wanted to see myself in a mirror.
"Five minutes!" Triton announced, poking his head into the tent. He looked nice in his perfect black tuxedo. Silena shrieked, "You were supposed to be here at the fifteen minute mark! Not five!" My bridesmaids picked up the pace, the mirror they talked about earlier forgotten. It didn't matter now, so I didn't look.
"Sorry!" He sounded exasperated, like it wasn't the first time he'd been yelled at today. "Perce has been freaking out all day, which reminds me…You aren't planning on ditching him at the altar, are you Annie?" He turned his attention to me. A light blush covered his cheeks.
I couldn't answer him, not even to scold him for calling me Annie. I was just thinking about all the horrible things that could go wrong. I had been warned that I would get nervous, and several people had asked me over the last week if the nerves had struck yet. I laughed them off, saying I wanted this and I was way too busy to get nervous. I had known it was only a matter of time before they set in, but this could not be natural. I should not be this nervous.
I was pulled to my feet, but it felt like my legs were going to give out and I was going to end up sprawled on the floor. My heartbeat picked up and it sounded so loud I bet everybody in the tent could hear it. I tuned out the voices, not even bothering to answer their questions.
"Hey," Triton was standing in front of me outside the tent. My bridesmaids were doing touchups on themselves before we went to get in line. "You look beautiful." He urged me to say something.
"Thank you," I breathed out. I couldn't do this.
"You can do this. Trust me." Triton encouraged, as if he could read my mind. I only shook my head – there was no way I could do this.
"Yes, you can. What is there to be nervous about? Come on, tell me."
"Um…well…he could decide he doesn't love me and change his mind." I imagined the scene and just the thought made me want to burst into tears.
"Annabeth, that won't happen. My brother has never had a girlfriend, or liked a girl for that matter. You are the only girl he's ever had feelings for and he loves you. He's not going anywhere."
"Maybe he'll decide he can't do this…marry a dish maid." Triton scoffed.
"Annabeth! He's been freaking out all morning because he's scared you'll decide you won't want to marry a prince." He paused for a moment as we reached the ceremony. There was a temporary wall made of beautiful white fabric, bronze poles, and flowers matching the bouquets hiding me from the guests and Percy.
We were getting in line and Triton would have to leave any second to go stand by Percy. The King would be walking me down the aisle, since I didn't have anybody to do it. Before he pulled away, he gave me a hug. "If you don't plan on leaving him, he sure as hell won't be leaving you. He loves you. So smile! After this, you'll be a part of the family. You'll never be rid of us."
He mocked a horrified expression and I couldn't help but laugh. He joined me then ducked through the curtains and I could hear the music start to play. Percy's father offered me his arm and gave me a kind smile.
When it was our turn to walk, everybody stood up and turned to look at us. At me. I kept a smile plastered to my face and tried not to think about things that could go wrong. But then he looked at me. And when he smiled, it took everything I had not to run down the aisle.
(AN: Since you do not know, I do not write weddings. I cannot write weddings. I have tried since I started this story and have failed miserably. It just hasn't worked, so I'm not going to do that to this story.)
The wedding had gone off without a hitch. Percy had managed to get up and be ready on time, both the rings had made it down the aisle, and neither of us screwed up our vows. Thalia managed not to hit Percy when we sneaked off in between that and the reception to be alone. My dress stayed perfectly white and my hair stayed perfectly styled.
The reception had gone just as well. Triton had managed to write a relatively amazing speech, Piper's dancing lessons paid off, and none of the eligible princes seemed interested in my stepsisters – who happened to be flirting with every man here, including my husband. I couldn't help the bubbly feeling when I thought about the fact Percy was my husband. Nothing could keep us apart now.
After all the mandatory dances, the bouquet and the garter toss – Triton insisted, and cutting the cake, we were finally allowed to do as we pleased. The reception had been going on for hours, and the sun was setting. The sky was various shades of orange and pink, the music was slow and perfect for dancing. Percy and I decided to dance together, since we'd only had two dances so far. We stood near Jason who was dancing with a girl I didn't recognize, Luke and Thalia, and Triton and Reyna.
Reyna wasn't a princess, but a roman daughter of a politician. Bellona was the war advisor of Zeus, Thalia and Jason's father, and she had two daughters. When they'd been introduced, Triton and Reyna had taken an instant liking to each other and they would likely get married within the year. Reyna's younger sister Hylla was the five year old who had the pleasure of being our flower girl.
"Enjoying yourself, Mrs. Jackson?" Percy whispered in my ear. It wasn't the first time we'd spoken, but we weren't exactly keeping up a conversation. We were just enjoying each other's company.
I shivered in the pleasure of my new name. The royal family hardly used their surname, but I still loved hearing it. Prince Perseus sounded so formal and stuffy, so I couldn't help but love it when friends or family called him Percy Jackson. It had a nice ring to it, just like Annabeth Jackson.
"Immensely so, Mr. Jackson." He chuckled and his lips brushed against mine. We swayed gently to the music, not caring about anything around us. It was kind of hard to believe that in less than three short months I had met, fallen in love with, and married a prince – who just so happened to be the man of my dreams.
Percy had been kissing me only a moment ago, but now his head was resting on my shoulder with his lips brushing against my neck. He sighed in contentment before speaking again.
"I suppose you don't realize how utterly, heartbreakingly beautiful you are tonight," his voice sounded husky.
"You'll have to thank Thalia. She ran the show today – in fact, I haven't even seen myself," I answered, realizing I had never actually looked in a mirror.
"You haven't?" I shook my head. "Well trust me, you're jaw dropping gorgeous. I'm going to have to keep you close to me or Triton might steal you." I laughed and gave him a light kiss on the lips.
Triton had been teasing his brother all day; he'd interrupted our dances, stealing me away. He'd boasted how beautiful I looked today. I think at one point he told some of his cousins that when Percy took over as King, I'd need to spend more time with him so we could keep the royal lineage going. Obviously he was joking, but since he'd said that Percy hadn't let me out of his sight and Reyna could no longer keep a straight face whenever she talked to him.
Percy cradled my face with one hand and kissed me again. He kissed me again and again, each kiss getting deeper.
"I hate to interrupt, but you two lovebirds need to get a room." Triton interrupted, putting a hand on both of our shoulders.
"Triton, leave them alone! They're fine!" Piper nagged, but she was smiling. Her hair had been let down, her shoes were taken off, and she was no longer carrying her bouquet. Thalia was missing, so was Percy's mother.
"You're here to take me away, aren't you?" She smiled apologetically and led me away. I didn't know where I would be honeymooning, but knowing Percy, we would be near water. Piper had taken care of my wardrobe and had made sure we'd have time to get to wherever we were going tonight. Thalia had assured me everything was taken care of, but it was kind of irritating to sit around and not be allowed to do anything.
My idea was proved right when I arrived at my room. I was stripped and completely redressed. Thalia took my wedding dress away to another room where it would be taken care of while Piper handed me a matching set of blue lingerie. Then I was given a simple white chiffon dress, with a mini skirt that ended on my upper thighs. It had a partial back, a smocked waistline and basic bodice. Loose strings of the same fabric made straps and it made the whole dress light and airy – I loved it.
"Oh my god, Annie! You look hot!" Thalia cheered. Piper gushed over the remaining details: the gold strappy sandals, the gold band representing my relation to the royal family, and the simple gold necklace which I'd kept from my mother.
"She's right, Annabeth. Percy's going to have a difficult time keeping his hands off you!"
Piper and Thalia brought a bunch of my stuff out to put in into the carriage. Percy's mother chuckled and gave me a gentle hug, before escorting me back out to the rest of the guests. His parents had taken a liking to me as soon as we'd met. Percy claimed they liked everybody, and I knew it was true about his mother. But I had the feeling that the main reason the King liked me was the fact I would be marrying his son.
We got outside and everybody swarmed around us. Percy had changed into khaki pants and a white button up shirt, with his sleeves rolled up. It was much more casual and would be comfortable for our trip. He'd explained that we would spend the first two weeks alone, and then his family would be joining us for holiday for additional two weeks. We'd have no responsibilities, no meetings – just two weeks to relax.
People were throwing rice as Percy came up to me, kissing my forehead, and tucking me into his chest. He led me over to the carriage and we said thank you and goodbye to most of our guests. I think somewhere in there I hugged Calypso and we briefly spoke about me coming to visit her, but it was a blur.
I knew once we got back we'd have post-wedding details to deal with, but for now I didn't care. All that mattered was my new life with Percy. He helped me into the carriage, which was open so we could enjoy the warm night air.
It took us a good half hour to get away from everyone and actually get going. We had couple days' worth of clothes and then the rest would be brought later this week with all of our wedding gifts that we could have to go through.
Percy lied back against the seat with me in between his legs. He peppered kisses in my hair, on my shoulders, and on the back of my neck as we rode through the countryside. Despite my two months at the palace, I still hadn't traveled anywhere. I didn't know where we were going, but Percy kept reassuring me that I would love it.
As we passed through town, Percy asked me to point out houses of people I'd introduced him to. Once we passed the end of houses in our kingdom, the scenery changed to rolling hills and the occasional farm house. The night sky got darker and the air cooled, but it felt nice.
We traveled for nearly three hours before we finally arrived. There was a lake not too far from the building, which once the lights were turned on I could see was a cottage. The walls were a warm golden color, but tall columns lined the front porch. There were tiny balconies off a few of the doors on the upper level, but it didn't look too grand.
Percy and the driver quickly unloaded our stuff while I explored the inside. The floors were made of a dark wood; smooth to touch. There was an office off to one side of the foyer behind French doors and the rest of the room opened up to a large living space. There were couches, chairs and a few tables near a piano on one side of the room. The other held a huge kitchen that opened up into an eating area.
I remembered Percy mentioning a cottage that his family went every summer in Athens. We'd been busy with wedding preparations so the trip didn't happen this year, but I imagined this was the place. I found a staircase leading up to a second, and third, floor. Most of the doors were shut, but one towards the end of the hall was open with light shining out.
I could hear somebody moving around inside and I figured this was Percy's room. I smiled as I walked inside, seeing it was so similar to his room back home. The walls were a lighter shade of blue and the floors were constant with the rest of the house. A king size bed was pushed up against one wall and two doors stood on one wall that probably led to the bathroom and closet. I found my husband – I loved saying that – in the closet.
"You brought me to Athens?" I smiled, wrapping my arms around him from behind. He chuckled and spun around to face me.
"I did. Do you like it?" I nodded and pulled him down to kiss me. He was so tall, much taller than my 5'5. I could hear the carriage pulling away, and I figured we were so far out here there was no need for security.
We kept kissing until we could no longer hear our means of transportation. Then, Percy swept me up into his arms, while still kissing me, and turned off the lights as he carried me to the bed. I could still see the details of the room in the starlight, but it was still dark.
He sat down on the bed and I straddled his waist and continued to kiss him. "I love you, Annabeth." He managed to say.
"I love you, too. Thank you for finding me," I trailed a hand down his chest undoing the buttons on his shirt.
"I'll always find you, Wise Girl." And with that, we began the beginning of our happily ever after.
