Yay! Laurwalk! Enjoy :)

Lauren groaned as her alarm sounded in her dark room.
"Too early" she mumbled as she reached over to turn it off. Her mind had almost fallen back to sleep when her stomach had other ideas. Lauren shot up in her bed and managed to reach the bathroom of her apartment before heaving up last night's dinner. After a few minutes, she reached for some tissues to wipe her mouth and leant against the sink. She took a glance at herself in the mirror; her brown hair was sticking up all over the place, her face was pale and there were dark circles under her eyes. She was disrupted from her thoughts by a knock on the door,
"Are you okay Lo?" Julia asked, concerned. Lauren stumbled out to the hall way.
"I think it might be food poisoning" Lauren said, before flopping down on the sofa in the sitting room.
"Well then, you are not going to rehearsal today missy" Julia said, bringing a cup of tea to the petite girl. Lauren nodded; she didn't really feel up to singing and dancing in a studio anyway. She hoped that rest and watching shitty TV all day would make her feel better.
However, when Julia arrived home after rehearsals that night, she found an even duller looking Lauren emerging from the bathroom. Lauren managed a small smile as she made her way back to the sofa and pulled a blanket over herself. Julia headed to the kitchen to make some dinner. Although, when she came out with a steaming bowl of soup, she discovered a sleeping Lauren wrapped up in a blanket, using a magazine as a pillow. Julia sighed; she hoped Lauren would get better soon…
Lauren was better the next day, sort of. After she woke up on the sofa, she stretched her muscles and let out a yawn. Within minutes she found herself back on the tiled floor of the bathroom. Once more, she wiped her mouth but this time she felt a slight bit better. She set off for the kitchen to make some breakfast where she found Julia sitting at the table, drinking coffee and reading the newspaper.
"Feeling better?" Julia asked.
"A bit" Lauren smiled back. She decided that she would go to rehearsals that day, she couldn't miss out on another day of practising for their upcoming tour.
Over the next week, these morning events became a pattern. Lauren would wake up feeling horrible, but after heaving up the contents of her stomach, she would feel much better. Even Lauren herself was beginning to believe it was more than just food poisoning. Her heart stopped as she looked at the calendar on the back of her door…she was already a week late. She couldn't be pregnant…no, she couldn't. Or was she? Lauren sprinted into Julia's room down the hall, it was still pretty early in the morning and Julia was fast asleep before Lauren barged in.
"Julia! Julia!" she said. Julia opened her eyes blearily.
"Wh-what's wrong?"
"I'm late!" Lauren exclaimed. Julia saw the scared look in Lauren's eyes and immediately knew what this was about, her mouth rounded into an "o".
"Hey, I think I might be pregnant" Lauren tried to sound nonchalant as she said this to Julia. Julia shook her head in response.
"No, no. You have to sound more sincere" Julia offered. Lauren sighed and flopped down on the couch. She had been practicing how to tell the father of her possible baby for almost an hour now. She was removed from her thoughts by the ringing of her phone. She grabbed it and saw a text from Joe, "Hey I'm outside!" Lauren felt her heart begin to race. She looked up at Julia and nodded at the questioning look on her face. Within seconds she was ready to leave. Julia gave her a quick hug before Lauren swung the door shut behind her.
"Hey Lo" Joe smiled as he leaned against his car. He always loved hanging out with Lauren and had been thrilled when she had suggested that they meet for coffee.
"Hey Walker" she replied, trying to remain natural. Joe walked over and opened the passenger door for her, before getting into the car himself. During the drive they talked about the tour, and how the rehearsal process was going. Before Lauren could prepare herself, they were inside the café and ordering their drinks. It's now or never, Lauren thought to herself.
"Um Joe?" she said timidly. Joe looked up from stirring his drink. God, his eyes are so blue and beautiful, thought Lauren.
"Ithinkimightbepregnant" Lauren mumbled, before staring intently at her mug.
"What was that Lo?" Joe asked with a confused look on his face. Lauren thought it looked adorable.
"I think that I, um, might, eh, be…pregnant" she tried again.
Joe's hands stopped stirring his coffee as he froze.
"Pr-pregnant?" he asked.
Lauren simply nodded. She tried to read Joes face but it was almost emotionless. After a few minutes of awkward silence, Lauren spoke,
"I might be" she clarified, "I don't know yet". Hearing her voice seemed to have reawakened Joe from his thoughts,
"Have you taken a pregnancy test?" he asked delicately. Lauren made a small noise and shook her head. Taking a pregnancy test meant finding out if this was real or not, and Lauren wasn't prepared to deal with that. She felt a single tear roll down her cheek. Joe reached his hand across the table and placed it on top of her small one, giving it a gentle squeeze. Lauren looked up at him and Joe used his thumb to wipe away her tear.
"Will we go find out together then?" he asked, giving her an encouraging smile.
Lauren nodded and they left the café hand in hand, walking to the chemist on the corner.
In three minutes Lauren could go from her apartment, down the hall and ride the elevator to the main floor, she could boil an egg or solve the crossword puzzle in the morning paper, but these three minutes felt like the longest three minutes in Lauren's life. She sat on the edge of the bathtub while Joe leaned against the sink. Joe's phone buzzed to signify that three minutes were up. Lauren looked up at him, her face white with fright. She reached for his hand and he grabbed it, rubbing soothing circles on the back of it with his thumb. Her eyes searched his for any emotion, yet she knew it wouldn't show. Joe was putting on a brave face for Lauren. She stepped towards the counter where the pregnancy test lay. She was almost too scared to reach her free hand out and pick it up, but she did. She held her breath as she glanced as it…only one pink line. The pregnancy test clattered to the ground as she dropped her hands and turned towards Joe. He was looking at her with expectant eyes. She shook her head before burying her head in his chest. Joe felt a sense of relief wash over him, but a tinge of sadness. Even though he had only been aware of this possible baby for about an hour, he had begun to imagine a life as a father, not only that, but one with Lauren by his side. And Joe really liked what he saw.
Joe knew from that day forward that the only person he ever wanted to be sitting with in a bathroom, waiting three agonising minutes with for two little pink lines, was Lauren.
And that's the end! :(
I am heading off to Irish College for 3 weeks in a few days (where I'll learn and speak Irish 24/7 on an island off the west coast of Ireland). For that reason, Gettin' Along has finally come to the end. But, when I return, I plan to write a few more stories before school returns! So, if you like my writing, please review and add me to author alerts so you can be the first to know about any of my new fics!
Thank you for reading Gettin' Along, it means so much to me!
