A/N: So, this is my first entry for the Song Fic Boot Camp Challenge by Unicorn20089. I used the song You Suck At Love by Simple Plan.
Enjoy!
Ron paced back and forth, moving out of the way every so often to avoid colliding with a student who was trying to enter the common room.
He then squeezed his eyes shut, running through his plan one more time in his head.
You'll just walk right up to her and say, 'Hermione, will you go out with me?' Simple as that! But… what if I mess up? She'll just—
"Hey, watch where you're—" One quick glance at the person who had bumped into him was all it took to know who it was, "Oh, hi Harry." Ron resumed his regime of pacing.
Stifling a laugh, Harry watched his friend pace. He was obviously trying to figure out something, but he couldn't figure out what.
"What in the name of Merlin are you doing?"
"Nothing." Ron didn't miss a beat.
Harry narrowed his eyes, and after a few seconds, Ron stopped, a desperate look on his face.
"All right, you caught me," Ron sighed, "I'm trying to figure out how I should ask out Hermione."
Harry narrowed his eyes. "You're serious?"
Ron nodded.
"You really need to figure it out? You seriously don't think Hermione doesn't like you too?"
Ron turned away and mumbled something under his breath.
Shaking his head, Harry had then grabbed Ron's arm and dragged him into the common room, where a studious Hermione was sitting on a loveseat, reading through a book of some sort. But upon seeing them, she looked up, setting her book aside.
"Hermione, Ron has something to ask you."
Ron shook his head furiously, but Hermione just ignored it, motioning for Ron to take a seat in the spot by hers.
Ron grimaced and felt his stomach squirm as he took the seat next to her, watching Harry slip away again, leaving him alone in the common room with Hermione.
"Well? What is it? What do you need to ask me?"
Ron, only just remembering Hermione's presence, turned to face her, meeting her gaze and feeling his stomach squirm. Again.
"Well, um… The thing is, Hermione, I… Well, actually, it's nothing…" Ron trailed off and bit his lip, hoping desperately that she would believe him. But of course, she didn't.
"It can't be nothing or you wouldn't need me to know it, now would you? Go on then, just tell me."
Ron took a deep breath, and then exhaled it. He didn't know what to do. Of course he wanted to tell her, he did more than anything. But what if she said no? Or what if he messed it all up for the two of them?
He stared at her for a bit, watching a face that showed solely kindness, and suddenly, he felt himself get a sudden boost of confidence, and knew at once what he should do. He was going to say it.
Sighing, Ron began. "So, uh, Hermione. The thing is, I… well, I really," Ron gulped, before continuing, his words starting out as a mumble, "like you. And well… I wanted to ask you something."
He watched her cautiously as her expression became a little lighter, happier, and she cracked a small smile. "And? Go on…"
"Well… I was thinking that maybe, uh, if you weren't busy sometime, we could, um…" Ron took a deep breath, before starting over. "Hermione, will you go out with me?
This time, Hermione held back the smile. Instead, she began to lean in, but Ron was quick to stop her.
"Wait, wait, wait. Hold on a minute. Was that a yes?"
"Of course it's a yes." Hermione shook her head back and forth with a sigh. "Ronald Weasley, you suck at love."
Ron grimaced, but his heart leapt. He didn't mess it up. Hermione liked him too.
And this time, when Hermione leaned in, Ron didn't even stop her.
FIN.
